I like that if I want something with a really obscure character, say, Music Meister, I can just look up exactly which comics he appears in and grab those. No more guessing. Also, that I can order pretty much anything online. The comic shops in your area have four out of the six books in an arc you want? The rest are up on ebay. Also, online previews and artists on social media make finding new things to read really accessible. It's really easy now to find new things to read.

Very entertaining. I collected as a kid in the 70s, and am now investigating selling what I've kept for all these decades. Have submitted to CGC, and waiting for the results is surprisingly fun and addictive. While I understand and respect the anti-slab argument, I agree with you 100% that slabbing is great. But maybe I'll feel differently if the grades I get back are disappointing. I'd now put LOL here if I wasn't in my late fifties. LOL. Oops.

I just recently discovered your channel and wanted to stop by and say that I'm enjoying it. As for what I love most about comics. Well there are a few. First, I love cool art. I have several favorite artists and find new ones all the time. Second, I like a good story. Batman is by far my favorite character so I tend to send my $ his way. Third, I enjoy the speculation aspect. I like buying books for cover price minus a bit for my subscription discount and watching those little investments bloom. I do read most of my books but some are just bought for the cover and/or investment aspect. I occasionally send some off to CGC. Getting my most recent order back soon. The highlight was my signed Secret Wars 8 going from a 9.6 to 9.8 after pressing and my Star Wars 42 newstand and getting a 9.6. Not bad for a $50 investment two years ago.

Great video again! Just saw your 10 reasons why collecting now sucks before this. Both great videos and very true. Probably my favorite thing about collecting today is the accessibility of information about anything. If I need to get caught up with a story, without buying dozens of books, I can always find a KZbin video or something somewhere. I also just discovered CGC this past month, which inadvertently led me to your channel and many others. I’m going down the hole of that type of collecting, mostly been about the raw books these past couple of years I got back into collecting since being away for so long since when I was a kid in the 90s. Anyway, great video, thanks!

Thanks for the video! The options are phenomenal. Thru trade paperback or digital, there are more comics to read than I can ever get to. Growing up, there weren't trade paperbacks, so reading old great runs of comics was difficult and or expensive. And the comics coming out today are about....everything. Writing and art styles of so many kinds.....stories of so many genres, There's so many more superheroes, there's more horror, sci-fi, drama, romance, comedy, tragedy, there's a lot, and a fair amount of biography and history as well. I'm enjoying Ginseng Roots, which is an autobiography of Craig Thompsons childhood working in the Ginseng fields in Wisconsin. Comics are an amazing medium, thanks for pointing out what a great time it is to be reading comics. ....oh, also the availability of so many colors in comics today and the quality of art reproduction.

Hey there. I found your channel a few days ago and watched a few videos and subscribed today. Keep up the great work! I'm a Spider-Man fan, I have 3 Spidey tats so maybe I'm borderline fanatical? What I love is there are so many Spider-Man items I can get for my collection. Statues, T-shirts, lithos, posters, figures, Blu-rays for example to add to my Spider-Man collection aside from comics. Speaking of comics, I have really never considered myself a comic book collector, more like a comic book reader, which is why I absolutely love picking up trades and collected editions. I really don't pick up singles as they are too expensive. That being said, I will go out and try to find Spidey comics out in the wild. In trying to put together the original Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, Web Of Spider-Man & Marvel Team Up runs. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt I'll ever put together a solid volume 1 run of Amazing Spider-Man, but I'll still try. Those books from the 60's are way out of my price range. Anyway, I just wanted to leave a comment on here. Really enjoying the channel and I'll be watching your other videos as well as any new ones that pop up. Have a good one.

Great video, the only criticism is that that great or good stories today are very hard to come by. The comic industry is full of talentless writers or creators that are burnt out and just skating by and I think that this is part of the reason that Manga is taking over America . In the American comic industry, artist journeymen like Crain, Ribic, Dell'Otto, etc are the main stars today.

James, all good arguments, I'll grant you. But consider: do most collectors these days actually buy comics as a hobby to enjoy, or as an investment? Do they acquire comics/related stuff to store away, obsessed with "Mint", without actually cracking them open, like some folk do with the recent fad of vinyl records where they buy a record only for the cover art and don't actually own a turntable to play the music? Is being a comics collector more of a business now (almost a profession), driven by publishers who flood the market with collectables, manipulating the consumer into thinking they have to get everything or they "lose"? Curious as to your opinion. Uncle G

As a cheapskate who mostly wants to *read* comics, I completely agree with points 3 (collected editions) and 9 (readily available info). Here are seven more points specific to low-cost readership... A. Online sales (eBay in particular) make it possible to obtain material from sellers located far from home, and also make it possible to learn about titles I didn't know existed; B. Values for vintage hardcover collected editions are still unsettled in many instances -- meaning that it's possible to find cool books at bargain prices; C. The ever-widening price spread for desirable comics in various conditions has meant that beat-to-heck copies of many of these comics are still fairly affordable; D. The existence of digital comic archives means that it's possible to read thousands of Marvel and DC comics for a reasonable subscription price; E. Speculation has helped local comic shops stay in business, enabling me to find cheap stuff that doesn't provide much revenue to the shops; F. The rise of KZbin comic collecting channels has led to many channels devoted to comic art history, which I love; G. The existence of websites like Comic Book Plus provide no-cost access to vintage comics that have fallen into the public domain.

Option, yaer to many options sometimes. As a part of DC new brand infinite frontier i looked up how many titles would be under that brand. 21, one mini series and a one shit. Or last year with the whole sword saga thing from marvel with all the Xs titles. This a lot of money, specially of you are not a full comitted collector or have other interests. I think somehting like this is a killer for new comic book readers. It feels to overwhelming. o_O Btw speaking of excelent stories. WHat is going on with Daredevil? It is actually really good. O_O :D

One of my favorite things about collecting comics right now is the ability to really get to know the people making these books, through the internet and social media... and, in some cases, that’s actually my least favorite thing about collecting comics today.
