I’m 57 and agree with what you said, we had a great time as kids, I never could afford a hot car growing up but if there was a hood up in the trailer park I was under it and up to my elbows, I had a subscription to HOT ROD and POPULAR HOT RODDING and read each one cover to cover so now I’m buying a 1970 C10 long bed that my son and I can spend time working on and taking to shows and the drag strip and he will be able to enjoy when I’m gone

I'm 40 & was lucky enough to just have made it into the "No Phone" Stage. I learned a TON from my buddy JJ in good 'ol Bucksport, Maine. He is the absolute master with these old square bodies. Still have it! 1982 K-10

Yessir you are right. I’m 46 and I learned everything I know from being outside with the old heads working on the trucks and cars, and love it to this day. My first vehicle was a 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo. Now my project is a 1987 Chevy V10 Custom Deluxe 4x4.

Hell yeah when I first got my square body. It wouldn’t even do a burn out in the rain now it’s a Diemond I got a 67, 327 small block punched out 30 over with 54 cc heads and a 480 lift cam and Chevrolet racing rods headers going into 3 inch dolly exhaust it’s fun loves it’s gas but it’s fun. Blew the 350 turbo. Tranny out for the second time I’m switching it over to a 98 four-speed. With overdrive manual transmission.

What's up Uncle Buck ! Hey brotha, I just picked up an awesome 85 GMC K2500. I plan on using it to take the kids camping and just driving around town as a daily. Would all this still apply for me if I wanted to get her purring nice ? I'm new to Small Block Chevys so sorry for my ignorance. Would you be able to provide a little more info in regards to the basic tune up you were talking about ? Thanks !

i already had a bank account for my entire build when i was 16 even for paint and body work with base coat clear coat dupont croma line of material $2000 for paint material it takes a lot of material to paint a full size B body GM car. my car wasn't originally a vinyl top either so i had to paint that for a 2 year period before i found all the stainless trim and mouldings i needed for the top install. because i had busted my hump learning from my dad and turning and burning weekend car projects, buy them for 1,00 on mon night sell them for 4k sunday at a car show or swap meet so i just dumped my load into my resto but i was fortunate i get it my old man said just wait and do it all at once the entire package it will be worth it and cheaper in the long run instead of having to go back remove- disable replace stuff or figure out your las mod or 2 weren't good enough for your next know what i mean? Id recommend just get yur car up running, safe and driving and save up to motor- trans- suspension brakes rear all at once. DONT FORGET YOUR COOLING SYSTEM UPGRADES YUR GUNN NEED TO REAL QUICK WHEN YOU START BUMPING HP BY DOUBLE DIGITS DURING YUR BUILD.

F me you had a monte so your hot rod was in the same class and weigh as my 72 caprice lol people in the late 90s would Shit their pants when you smoked them on a freeway onramp side by side and then continued to accelerate into the sunset with high gears. i run 273 posi i love it. 147MPH terrifying gps top speed my swooping spedo needle likes to hit the end just past 120 then bounce erratically a few times then it sunsets into the cluster for a while at a certain point with a 4000 pound vehicle the earth rotation begins to slow as your mass and moment catch up to it. I am fortunate man top speed is a breeze because my car is 1 of 2 years with only in 71s and 72 B bodys that had a double cardon rear driveshaft yoke at the dif so round yoke 4 bolts bolts to round yoke receiver on dif so you have 2 u joints at the rear and 1 up front for the yoke spline joint and i tell you what they are smooth at high speed be. drawback I just did my u joints in the rear for first time since iv owned it because the car now only has 60,000 miles on its original shaft. YOU CANT REBUILD A DOUBLE CARDON REAR YOKE on a 71 or 72 because the u joints were that nylon injection and so they never machined the yoke surfaces to accept a modern extern snap ring try as i did with 7 u joints i gave up and asked for help, help never came from anyone, i found a guy in upastate newyork he refabs double cardon joints from stock 70s K5 blazers front driveshaft yokes machines them to accept a centering yoke ball its like a cup because the driveshaft has a forged 1/2 steel ball that protrudes from the back end of the saft center where it meets up into the double cardon joint and this acts as additional balance point so you have intern outer shaft connection via the ujonts doubled and the center ball and yoke to really smooth out the ride on bumps turns and quick maneuvering couped this with the first year for variable ratio power steering this 72 Caprice is a wonder machine on the highway. but yeah of you know any one with a double cardon rear joint hit me up i can send you my guys contact info he has then on the shelf ready to rock you just have to install i unjoint yourself and that's not as simple as ya think caus remember ya got that center ball and yoke cup fighting your alignment with the ujoint i got it figured out after 2 more destroyed joints getting the new yoke together- i ended making a driveline yoke jig on my workbench and also used my vice to clamp and hold everything stable while making the final squeez to get those outer u joint clips on thats when the center stud ball wants to pop out off place and it ruins yur u joint install. LOL I Chanced it and did not try to get the shaft pro shop balanced i just did my own runout test in the garage in the car and it looked pretty dam good and it worked out its way tighter and smoother than it was before and that's saying a lot. Thats an example of not having any reference point to solve my unknowns so i trouble shooted, experimented, failed , researched, and then succeeded and i was frustrating as shit but it felt so incredible like a level 10 organsm when it was all done and i hit the road and it was perfect better than before. thats what wrenching on classic is all about.

SOUNDS LIKE WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF THE SAME THINGS IN OUR LIVES. WASN'T IT GREAT!!!!
@BIG_CHEVY_BOWSKIE_MIKE18 күн бұрын
Yeah I miss the old days like ya said everything you described growing up wrenching on your car with friends is exactly how my youth was. S h8ge car community of great people that would all help each other with Whatever issue or project they had going or I'm going and no one ever expected anything in return. If we had spare parts or something we could loan to submit and fix it or make something happen. We would do that and then it was uncommon for us to loan out that complete Cameron lifter. And push rod sets to other people who didn't quite have all their money. Put together yet to have finished up their built and my dad would just basically just load it forward to him. And then you would take payments for other people. Vmate purchase so much car automotive parts from a car quest that we actually had an accounts payable with an open account. We used to walk in there and put everything. We had a $50000 credit line and we're just Joe schmo garage renters. But even the the owners of the auto parts store and the towing copy repair shop they had. They were like friends and family in the automotive communities well. It was really awesome times I would say in my opinion with many things. The late 90s to early 2000s was the height and the pinnacle of all the American societies been all down to hill since then. I'm sounding like an old timer. I know, but I'm only 45 years old. Now I'm a lone Wolf in the car community. She's me myself and sometimes my wife cruising around. Classic classic car industry industry has priced out the average. People from be able to work on their cars or do anything like paint or body work because it's so cost prohibiti'm fortunate that all the work on my car I did in the 1990s. When literally, you can just go into a part store and buy everything right on the shelf. To build a 500 horsepower engine and a few long nights and it early mornings on a weekend. You'd have a rolling force 54 by Monday morning. That wasn't uncommon for us sad. I live in Washington State and the last walk in the front door performance oriented. Classic car muscle car type of shop.Close down during COVID, but they had closed the machine shop here's prior it's just the average people just weren't into that anymore.They're presenting their smartphones.Alright, this is a long enough rant.Talk to you later glad I joined the chanell
