Disagree with you on Back In Black. If anything the songs from the album are overplayed not overrated. The songwriting is strong throughout the entire album imo. That said Highway To Hell and Powerage are great albums as well. Powerage is my favorite AC/DC album from the Bon Scott era.

One of your best videos, imo. I think a lot of people associate the word " overrated " as something pretty negative, but it's more to do with calling something out that's " critic proof ". A good example that you mentioned is " London Calling ". Great album, but I think that you could definitely cut 5 or 6 tracks off of it to improve it a fair bit ( Obviously, I'm in the vast minority, so who cares what I think lol ).

Interesting video👍! ABBA will always "separate waters" in terms of liking or not. I like ABBA a lot. But "Arrival" is also overrated in my opinion. Although it consits 2 of my Top 10 songs "Dancing Queen" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You ", I consider the following 3 albums (The Album, Voulez-Vous, and Super Trouper) more adult, well produced and coherent.

Nevermind is in no way overrated. And I'm not the biggest fan, but can appreciate the songwriting, production, and performances (esp. vocal). It's pretty hard to call a landmark, iconic album that has stood the test of time overrated. Call me crazy.

@@muziktrkr Well musical taste is subjective and I wouldn't necessarily put any of those albums above Nevermind. In fact Cobain had a talent for writing catchy pop songs and was embarrassed by that and felt he had to be more punk with In Utero. Lots of filler on that album that people just don't play nowadays. "Trying" to be something is the definition of pretentious. Just like Thom Yorke wouldn't play anything off The Bends for years, because he wanted to be more esoteric or something. The Bends had his best song compositions ever, that's why that album and Nevermind instantly connected with an audience and got tons of airplay. People always want to deny the rare talent of writing great pop songs. Not easy. BTW - best album of the 90s was Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. Not my opinion, it's science.

Guns and roses and the clash are two of the most overated bands ever! The clash is a rock snobs and critics band. They had one or two good songs and werent really punk. And F axl rose! Cant stand that guy. Not showing up for performances and being late. He ruined that band. Appetite was their only really good album. And it was overplayed. People trying to put them on a pedestal with the likes of the rolling stones and zeppelin. Not even close. I think they are in the same realm as motley crue and poison and Bon jovi.

To me an overrated album are ones the critics raved about and people bought it in droves, but feeling like they were forcing themselves to like it. A few years later, would revisit it, listen to it for maybe 5 minutes and never listened to it again, although probably have on Spotify. Basically they are albums that people bought because of a good Rolling Stone review, Grammy nominations. I would say maybe 3 on your top 10 were “critic darlings” that fit my “overrated” criteria but most are in the “classic album” wheelhouse. Trout Mask could def go in the “overrated” list but it would be one that a Zappa, Residents or Waits fan should listen to.
@TheStrongBoyz19
@TheStrongBoyz19 4 ай бұрын
That's another good talk about the critics point of view to call an album a classic when people buy these albums because of their popularity and high reception. Obviously, we hear and think things differently in music, but I do like where you're coming from with that topic. Trout Mask Replica on the other hand is a big example when anyone would either get into it or not and it's a challenging one for sure through the discovery. It's an album that's around the avant-garde, free jazz and experimental movements. It's also an album that a music fan would look into the origin of why it was made in that intentional way. I do admire the album, not just as a Captain Beefheart fan, but for being fascinated with a diverse and explorative direction in the bigger creations of art and I know people would think otherwise with that album, lol. I am a Zappa fan as well after you mentioned him.

I’ve never really been that big into glam metal. It wouldn’t be surprised that Bon Jovi had to be brought into this topic. But if other people are interested in Bon Jovi, that’s absolutely fine with me.👍🏽 The same goes with Oasis too as well as ABBA, Michael Jackson, Nirvana etc…quite frankly, it’s the same with ever decade of music really. And also one more question: you mentioned Guns N’ Roses? Do you think that the Use Your Illusion albums are better than Appetite? I’ve got a soft spot for the Illusion albums because the band exploring other elements like piano ballads.

Ac /dc back in black was overplayed. In high school on the bus they played the same two tapes everyday. Back and black and appetite of destruction. People need to understand that The Wall is rated highly as a rock opera, not as a progressive rock album or a collection of great individual songs. It's not the same genre as Dark Side, WYWH or Animals. Nobody is saying that Vera or Bring the Boys Back Home are amazing standalone songs (although there are some outstanding "standalone" tracks like Comf Numb, Mother, Hey You, Nobody Home, etc). But they're part of a much greater whole, and that whole is quite brilliant as far as I'm concerned. The Wall gets so much hate that I think it might actually be underrated now. Whatever it is, it most certainly is not overrated.
@TheStrongBoyz19
@TheStrongBoyz19 4 ай бұрын
It is a very different album to those other ones you've mentioned and PF have always been an interesting and open band to experiment with a mix of genres and their own takes in what they've been moving into from their whole career. I do agree that it is a rock opera like Quadrophenia for example. The Wall is still a brilliant album, but there are other PF albums I'd stick on and engage with more than this one. It's as successful as Dark Side in terms of sales and grown an influence for different reasons and it's one of the better albums than others in their catalogue.

Anyone would still think they're good or favourite albums with not a lot of bad things to say. That's why I thought I'd put some of them in the list as I don't see them as classics, but I still enjoy them. It takes time to love everything on an album if anyone think they're that strong. I love some underrated albums that not many music fans would agree with, but I'm happy with what they're into. That's another part I'd add on here.
