We moved because of the low cost of living, no income tax, friendly folks, and conservative, God-fearing family values. Tennessee is considerably less regulated which is so much nicer than the dictatorships in NY, NJ, and CA. If you're an independent person, not looking for handouts, and love God's Country then TN is for you.

Lol 😂 So it's terrible? Somehow those two parts of the sentance don't match up. Just don't hate on my family for being born and stuck in CA most of our lives. If we had money to move we would. I think it's funny how many misnomers there are about both CA and TN. Lots people don't understand about the weather alone...and wildlife. Even in/right outside of cities. Many of our cities still get tarantula hawks, coyotes etc. Ignorant people treat them like puppy dogs and that's a mistake. Though I would definitely be mindful of the wasp species, ticks, and possibly bears (?) in TN. My family wants more freedom to be a Christian family, and not have our lives hijacked by lib propaganda and govt molesting our pockets. Thanks! ❤

❤ I'm in CA but we discussed TX, and TN. Honestly I love the homes in TX but TN seems better in every other way. Too much of TX seems woke and it's not just due to CA .... On top of the immigration issues and the weather. 😢 We would move to TX if desperate but otherwise we plan for TN! 😊

We're taking our second trip to Tennessee to see if that is where we want to move. Hoping it is because I'm tired of looking. We've been to Michigan, North Carolina and not interested in those states. Currently living in Texas. Talk about high property tax and hot weather.! At least it's nice to hear Tennessee cools down at night. Fingers crossed for Tennessee! So excited!

Ok but on the other side of things; sign me up! 😂 ❤ we live in SoCal but talked about central TX, especially since have some friends out there. But TX is too liberal now too in most places, high property taxes and the weather vs TN.... We just need to save the money to move. Hard when not born with a silver spoon and the govt keeps their paws in our pockets. 😢

We moved from Orange Co, CA to TN 4 years ago. We love it here. The two of you are spot on with every reason given. I had to laugh at the last one because that’s the biggest reason why we did moved here. I was born and raised in CA so it was a huge deal to move out of state, but the liberalism finally got to us and we had to escape. It’s amazing to have freedom of speech once again. I just found your channel and subscribed. Thanks for sharing your opinions.

❤ My family is not far outside of Orange County and we have considered TN for a long time. If we make the money to move. We have some family that beat us to it. I visited TN about two decades ago. Loved it. My father and husband are warming up to the idea of moving to East TN now also. We considered TX but TBH the property taxes, weather, and immigration issues plus the crazy liberal movements in their cities all have us preferring TN.

How can conservative people be an issue? Really? EVERYBODY waves and says hi, politeness, respect for others. Maybe it's better that non-conservative people don't go to Tennessee, that's the locals biggest fear. Bringing non-conservative people in large numbers. My 2 cents.

Close on a home in Maryville on July8. Thanks Hoag family on all the insights on Tennessee living. Visited there in April, visited with Babs at the donut shop, which I managed to visit twice in my short visit, and loved the area. Have watched several other KZbin channels in eastern TN for a number of years and always loved what they were doing and the family values they espoused! Your channel prompted a visit after 2+ years of ridiculous lockdowns and loved what I experienced in Maryville. Looking forward to a wonderful new adventure in Maryville. So of course we are moving there because its conservative and the fact that someone made that a reason not to move there should tell you everything you need to know about the rest of the reasons too. However, my daughter moved to Knoxville and to get away from super Liberal Portland Oregon and ironically all of her neighbors are self proclaimed Liberals....but we love them. They are the sweetest, most neighborly people. They remind me of what Democrats were when I was growing up. And the homeless thing is hilarious! Clearly you haven't seen homeless camps that take up huge swaths of your city. I have! Its not fun. And the homeless people in Knoxville aren't violent and scary. They seem like hippies from the 60's. They are actually nice and respectful old fashioned pan handlers... At least from my experience. But the bottom line is if any of those reasons keep you away, then it's not for you anyway. Find a state that fits YOU. I will be coming back to spend a month with my daughter in Knoxville in July and August and I am counting.down.the.days! Thanks for your videos Hoag fam!

I love Tennessee! I’m in a small town in west Tennessee halfway between Memphis and Nashville. I bought a house 2 years ago, 2 story, over 1700 sq ft, on 1/2 an acre of land and with a full basement. I am 2 blocks from court square and my street is so quiet and nicely manicured. I only paid 115k! I went to California a few months ago, and met a man who told me he’s paying $2700.00 a month in RENT for a 1 bedroom apartment! 😳 We have a city lake 1 mile from my house, and plenty of local entertainment. 🙌🏻 Love it! 🙌🏻🤍

Babs I had pneumonia when I was your age. (pretty bad actually I could barely sit up) The doctor (even back then) wouldn't give me antibiotics. I asked and he said "you are young and I'd rather have your body fight it naturally". He said if you enough antibiotics your body slowly becomes immune to them. He was right, over thirty years later with zero antibiotics (even had bronchitis once) I got pneumonia took antibiotics and recovered very quickly. Food for thought.

Good stuff as always,I'll just add Maryville Schools reopen Aug 2nd and the kids can't wait to go back to school...that's gotta be worth something. Babs the wife says use a saline flush to clean out those sinuses, comes in a little pressurized can. Yes that list was a little silly, no place is perfect but you have to find the place that checks all the right boxes for you. Matt its about 12 hours from Maryville to NYC, another 3 hours or so to Montauk on a good day, 8 hours puts in Maryland/Pennsylvania border area; 81 is a nice ride but you need to be aware of the weather Jan-March. Cheers!!!!

That list is quite comical... totally agree regarding questions like bugs, snakes, tornados and so on. There are much bigger things to focus on. The "net" only presents one - very limited - point of view. But if leveraged the right way it can be very helpful - like making sure that acreage down the road isn't zoned for logistics. Back to the list - cost of living, high taxes , crime - I'll trade spots with the writer any day. lol

Love you both so much, keep up the great work/vid's! We moved to East TN, from Memphis-West TN, 1.5 years ago. I don't feel too scared to go to the store/anywhere anymore; we came from Memphis and people are getting killed, car jacked, robbed daily, it's just so much better here! We save the following in comparison to Memphis; we're rural, yet in Memphis we had 2 homes, and we paid near $6k in property taxes for the 2 small homes. Here we pay around $1k property taxes, for our 1 home. We save $50/month on water and $40/month on garbage pickup. We have a new heat pump, and it's saving us about $100/month in electric bills; although we did spend $8k for the new unit & installation. We love it in East TN and feel like it's the closest place to heaven we'll be, until we get there!

the biggest problem with states like TN aren't the people that live here it's the people fleeing their states like CA and my moving here. as long as u keep the liberal politics in ca it's all good. btw homeless is a problem in the TN cities, not like CA but it's still a problem. housing prices and rent are going up due to people moving here. people from Nashville are leaving the city and Knoxville because of rising costs it's laughable to the people like urself but it's not very funny

I have lived in SoCal most of my life, the weather here ALSO is usually cool in the AM then warm or hot then cool or cold in the evening. Obviously depending on time of year and if closer in the valley or mountains etc. It varies a lot more here I'd wager, since we have every environment almost. My husband works with people who live in the mountains, where it'll snow a few times a year, and with people more in the valley where it'll be way warmer than it is here, we are closer to the hills near the beach and it's usually a lot cooler here but also doesn't have as much extremes of heat where we lived 30 mins away from here. It's an average of like 10 degrees different. But everywhere it's been colder in the AM where unless it's summer it's a sweater and jacket until 8-9 am then again at about 8-9 pm. Most days. I used to wear a sweater, pants, and boots all black, in summer when I was in high school. Unless it was over 95. Lol So people complain about humidity or what not and it also depends on the individual. There are so many misconceptions of every place. It's annoying when people assume any place is just full of cookie cutter groups of people....but there's a ton of diversity here....there also was when I lived in TX and South Carolina....and some places I've traveled to. I'd guess smaller towns would have less diversity but as long as the crime isn't bad... that's what matters to my family at the end of the day. And yes- TAXES! The govt won't keep their paws off of our money. I wouldn't use toxic chemicals as bug spray but the sulfur powder sounds interesting. 🤔 I'd rather cover myself head to toe like a weirdo or stay indoors. 😂 I get the sentiment about tall grass. Did Jurassic Park teach us nothing??!! 😅 We have ratrle snakes and tarantula hawks out here, and I've had a tick from camping too...and lots of spiders....I think it's another misnomer that people in CA don't deal with wildlife. We have less city than we have city, though I know most the population lives in the city. The sidewalk thing would suck to me. That's the worst part of this. Lol

Bugs migrate to FL… or so it seems. Homelessness is high here, very high… taxes are about equal… the humidity here lasts morning through night for most of the year. But, it’s flat here… have to love the ocean a lot to love it here… I’ve only been to Knoxville and Chattanooga… liked Chattanooga but Knoxville was a little scary for me… would love to visit the Tricities some day… It sounds similar to Vermont life style without the hard winters… and most of all the mountains I miss. Can’t wait to visit that area one day.

Eh...Maybe false articles but I loved Knoxville when I visited in about 2008. I heard recently the homelessness and illegal drug issue is similar to our much larger cities in SoCal. Which is terrible. I live in a city about twice the size of Knoxville and it has barely any homeless. But our taxes are insane and definitely feel most other areas are better in TN. Our weather is actually extremely similar but also better in TN IMO. Though it can be a ten degree difference just 20-30 mins away. But we live where in Spring it's about 60 degrees in the AM on average and 75 by afternoon. Unless it rains, then it can be 40 in the AM and night and 60s most the day. I'd have the biggest problem with humid rain, but IDK if that's an issue in East TN.

The high tax mentioned in the article was likely the sales tax, in which we have one of the highest in the country with an average of 9.55% statewide. However, our tax burden is still pretty low when you consider we have no income tax, no estate or inheritance tax, reasonable property taxes in most places, etc. I definitely wouldn’t call taxes in Tennessee high, unless I was referring to the sales tax alone, which is astronomical. Still evens out though, so I don’t really complain.

The nightlife comment is hilarious. The person who wrote this list clearly didn't visit the state, or at least not Nashville, and to a lesser extent Memphis. Nashville is one of the the top domestic tourist destinations in America. Downtown Nashville on any given weekend in the warm months is only slightly less hoppin' than New Orleans during Mardi Gras. On weekdays and in cold months it's still real loud. Memphis has Beale Street which is the blues club mecha of America. I imagine that Knoxville, with UT smack dab in the middle, is pretty busy as well. Sure, if you're going to Crossville for nightlife you're going to be real disappointed, but that's to be expected.

A lot of people live in big cities that really don’t have “bugs”, so if you say Tennessee has “bugs” people are probably going to be curious as to what that means.

High crime in the bigger cities or everywhere???? I would choose East TN or mid at most because I do NOT have interest in being near any crazy cities. Also why my family wouldn't kove to Knoxville. We live in a bigger city than Knoxville but I'm surprised recent news shows much more homeless in Knoxville...😢 IDK if that's true. We still have a lot of crime that I assume is worse here. Most of us can't afford to visit cities we move to.

Been following you all from the time you moved to Tennessee from California. My wife and myself moved here a year ago. East Tennessee rocks! I really don't miss sidewalks at all. Saw some driving down to Rockford yesterday. Said to myself, I don't miss em. I had to drive an hour and a half to see a throat specialist, that is life without the big city. California is going down the pooper, and I don't miss it.

Yeah that list is stupid, Tennessee is a really good place to live but personally I'm not sure if I'd like to set roots here, I spent first 19 years of my life in Poland, than for 16 years I lived in Brooklyn, NY, we escaped in 2020 because of all the craziness and the city overall becoming unbearable because of Democrat politics, we lived in Tennessee (Knoxville) for 1 year, I'm a truck driver and drive all over the states, I never thought I'd say this but I think I feel a little better in states/cities with more cultural diversity like Florida for example, that years spend in Brooklyn and the fact that I'm immigrant most likely make me feel that way , I really like TN, people here are great , it's a slower pace of life, autumn is absolutely glorious.

I’m considering moving to East Tennessee from Eugene, Oregon in part from your videos. I’m conservative, but the reason I’m considering moving is, life is stagnant in Oregon. You’re right, coming to visit helps get the real picture. Thanks for all the content you both create.

YES- what Jeffrey Langdon said. Ditto for us. We've been following your channel for about a year and we moved here (Hixson, near Chattanooga) from the Bay Area last October. Not looking back...left CA but kept our CA jobs, both fully remote....no change in income, not a bad deal. Still exploring, and still happy to be here. Keep up the good work, Team Hoag!

Sales tax is higher at almost 9% right? I heard people who live in Bristol TN shop in Bristol VA bc the sales tax is much less. Not that it’s a reason NOT to move, just sayin. Housing market is bad everywhere but we were looking around Knoxville and you can get up to 1000 sqft for $300k. That’s horrible. In Indiana you can get a 2500 sqft house for that amount of money. Job market is horrible in TN unless you are a teenager. Can’t find anything for families trying to relocate and make the same amount of money.

I think it's funny that I wouldn't be able to afford my home in California if i tried to buy it today but I still qualify for a much newer and bigger home in Tennessee. So whoever listed high cost of living on that list needs to get off the crack pipe. Same goes for homelessness, taxes, urban crime, and unemployment. My #1 reason for not moving to Tennessee is too many country music stations and not enough heavy metal. (okay, just kidding, I'm still heading there soon) Thanks for debunking that whiny crybaby list, pal. Feel better soon, Sidekick.
