Located along the Douro River estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centers, and its core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, as the "Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar". The historic area is also a National Monument of Portugal. Its settlement dates back many centuries when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire.

Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

We love both countries but I find that Porto has a “gentler” vibe, and is in many ways like a cross between Spain and France with a little Moorish-influence thrown in. Also, wonderful food and cheese! 🥰🏰💖

Loved this Vlog. All my Aunts and my mom are gone . But they decided in their 60s to make porcelain dolls . So they took a class used other kilns and then my Aunt just bought her own kiln because they loved it so much .These ladies won awards for their dolls and their costumes. My aunts would see a photo of dress or a hat draw a pattern on brown paper bag , sew it up and they were stunning. All this to say yes Vivian get the kiln and make may happy memories with your friends . Hold a retreat ..

I havent been in almost 20 years, and wow have things changed! It was much more rough around the edges, a bit shifty in some areas. I really must go back soon. Porto is very beautiful. And Portuguese tiles are so decorative. I never knew they tiled the buildings because the stone was porous! That makes sense. My favorite hang out in my neighborhood is a Portugese place with amazing food and wine always bustling with people and great vibes. I've learnt so much about the wines at that place I've been wanting to travel to Portugal again. Tile painting there is a great idea. 👌
