I've been a XQ defender, but lately I struggle to find use for him or Yelan on my teams. Most Fontaine on-fielders don't want xq/yelan on their best teams. If you're playing pre-4.0 on-fielders or slightly worse teams he works, but anyone except Navia would easily prefer other options.

@@planetary-rendez-vous This isn't a beginner tier list. If it were, Barbara and Noelle would be on here. Razor would be a likely candidate as well. You spend very little time as a beginner, compared to any other period as a genshin player. Also, I was grouping xq with yelan since they're both pretty interchangeable. I'm considering XQ's placement as if he were himself or yelan, rather than fighting for a spot in the meta against her. The real competition comes from Furina, which will rerun yearly and every play should get before they try to 36-star the abyss. Because of Furina, XQ or Yelan both lose a spot on many teams.

im really tired of content creators doing this thing where they have to make content/ranks/whatever and try to pretend like new niche units outdo old ones. xingqiu, benny, fischl, etc have literally handicapped the game from being so good, the only way they could think to get around them is with another version (yelan to xingqiu) or creating things so specific they can't fill (fischl not being able to target bloom seeds with oz) most new characters are not beating them. i think it also gets into, this sorts of videos never consider that the reason these characters are so good isn't just because of their kits. its also the fact that they are easy to obtain, upgrade, and gear out and that they do so well while being unrestricted. faruzan and chevy are not benny/xingqiu level, because of the nicheness, requirements to function, etc

Sucrose being below Faruzan whos only real role is anemo hyper carry is straight up criminal dude. Dont even get me started on Xingqiu being lower than Xiangling, Kuki and Fischl man. Xingqiu and Sucrose have way more utillity and overall things to offer than Faruzan who only realistically buffs 2 characters, Kuki who is amazing in hyperbloom but terrible everywhere else, Xiangling and Fischl who at the end of the day, is only real purposes is damage. And yes, Chevruse is amazing, but number 1? No. Just no.

C6 Sucrose is awesome, I like her better than Kazuha because she doesn't clutter up my screen with a sh*tton of leaves that make it hard for me to see anything (and also weird out my eyes). Plus it's fun watching her flip enemies like she's tossing pizza dough.

Side thought -- with hyperbloom being one of the most powerful DPS sources in the game, Kuki becomes a must for abyss almost every floor. And she has healing?? That scales off the EM?? Totally broken, opens up the whole rest of your team for your bloom reaction and damage. You don't have to build crit on her, so every player can get her max damage just by farming enough elemental mastery artifacts. And if you can get them on the Paradise Lost set, she goes crazy. She's not a direct dps, but that's honestly BETTER news because you don't have to try and get a good enough weapon (craftable iron sting is great) and spend thousands of resin and artifact exp on trying to roll crit rate and dmg... Don't get me wrong, Xiangling is amazing and fits in nearly every team. So she still ranks above Kuki for flexibility and staying power. But Kuki is UP there =D

He is not better than other 5* alternatives before c6 ok sure, but I didn’t get the whole “after u get him at c6 u will have other hydro characters” argument. Ok, in half the teams he is still the best lol. Hyperbloom? Doesn’t need furina buff, needs as much hydro as possible, xq is the best. Hutao? Weird timings with yelan (if you use burst in the beginning of your rotation she basically won’t have hydro for half of her rotation later down the line), furina is not even close to being enough hydro for her just by herself. Cyno? Go try playing Cyno without xq’s stagger resists man. Taser? Xq+beidou are enough to keep you alive, swap to furina or yelan and u r dead. It’s not that xq has to compete with 5*s, it’s that 5*s have to be good enough to justify running them over xq in some situations. Having all three of these characters I basically almost never use yelan nowadays apart from mono hydro, furina+xq are the best double hydro core for the combination of damage, hydro application, buffs and defensive utility, solo furina is good for characters with slow pyro application like gaming and c6 dehya and she also works great in teams that can afford a healer and don’t need insane amounts of hydro, and solo xq is the single best character for those who need to activate a hydro-related reaction with every hit. Pre c2 yelan just doesn’t compete here. I also didn’t get the whole neuvilette argument, bro is literally a tier of his own, xq can’t do what neuv does, but it’s not like neuv can do xq’s job either. It’s like comparing xiao to sucrose or whatever - they literally don’t work in the same scenarios EVER.

He's a bit biased by the Fontaine releases, but if you consider them then it's fair. Look at the units we got in Fontaine and you'll see most of them don't want Fischl or XQ on their best teams. Fischl is wanted on Chlorinde & Arle (the later only because of Chev), while XQ is wanted on Navia. That's about it. Sumeru on the other hand was THRIVING off both, with Fischl being on any spread/aggravate team, and XQ (or yelan) being needed for hyperbloom at the time. But that was a year ago, and Fontaine has introduced powercreep. Sumeru teams are still fine, but by no means dominating like they did before.

Big chance is, you already have some 2 piece combinations that xingqiu can use. The investment isnt even that bad. For a long time, i didnt even use sacrificial and r5 isnt even required since his skill hits twice. If you have lost 50/50 to furina(like me) and dont have yelan(i have her but it doesnt matter rn) xingqiu is the only reliable hydro. And xiangling and fischl also need investment and a lot more investment since their main purpose is dmg(and xiangling pretty much requiring bennett to snapshot his atk buff and give her energy) while xingqiu can offer interruption resistance, little healing, and ton of hydro application and decent dmg.Also, hyperbloom team wont even be possible without furina, yelan or kokomi which are all 5 star characters locked behind gacha system

FUCK YEAH Chevreuse in first place! A lot of people forget she is straight up the best buffer in the game. She gives almost as much damage% as Furina, the second highest attack buff, a 40% res shred on two elements, and has good healing AS WELL AS being able to deal damage at the same time. I only wish her skills scaled on HP because then, my god, she’d be broken OP.

I actually think Faruzan is the best buffer in the game, Chevreuse is a very close second. Mostly because Faruzans buffs are unconditional and last 22s, plus her buffs are instantaneous, team wide, and no team restrictions. Her buff also don't depend on her stats, so she even can use lvl 0 4 star artifacts as long as you can get to 200% ER 38.9 Dmg% + 30% Res shred + 40% crit dmg + 20% Atk(tenacity set) + off field persistent grouping that frequently staggers enemies is hard to beat.

Xinqiu has damage reduction, can deal high damage off field, can generate a lot of particles, super armor, interuption resistance, damage buff, heal, and the most consistent hydro off field applicator in the game (even better than yelan) and you put him in number 5....

-Dmg reduction is useless if u already can survive without it. It only adds a extra layer of comfort but the abyss is dps check not a comfort check - can deal good off field dmg. Not high. "High" would be something Furina,Yelan,Xiangling or Emilie level of dmg. -"dmg buff" Only for other hydro units. This can be useful on a double hydro team with furina or yelan (but yelan + furina is way more broken than that) but otherwise its almost useless since u dont pair him with hydro dps units. -super armor and interput resistance is basically the same thing and XQ dosnt give full interrupt resist. In hutao teams, the interrupt resist he gives is almost equal to a shield cuz hutao has her own interrupt resist and it stacks. -"heal" Be for real here. He dosnt heal. A 6k heal per 20s is not it. Pretty sure even prototype amber is a better "healer" than XQ. - "most consistent hydro app in the game" Sure, he has the fastest off field hydro in the game but it dosnt matter since none of the teams need that much hydro app. All the vape carries can vape consistently with Yelan and/or Furinas hydro app. All the best hyperbloom teams (alhaitham quickbloom and cyno quickbloom) uses Furina and Yelan cuz XQ butchers the quicken uptime. Nilou teams are the only team where it really cares about XQs hydro app but even then C6 Candace is better cuz of the AoE hydro app and kokomi is better than both. XQ is good no doubt but we are at a point where being good at many but best at nothing is less valuable than before and the hydro off fielder role is heavily competitive with Yelan and Furina being better in almost every situation.

Bloom doesn't use XQ over kokomi or Candace, but yea, nilou bloom is pretty much the only team that cares about the hydro app, as i mentioned in the og comment Hyperbloom doesn't care either. Why ? Cuz the best hyperbloom teams are Alhaitham quickbloom and Cyno quickbloom Bloom, and both of them prefer Yelan / Furina over XQ. If u want to go for double hydro hyperbloom with nahida as the driver, Yelan + Furina are the best hydro units for that team. Pretty much every single team these days uses a healer or a shielder. Tasers' best team version is with furina, and that team uses a healer. There are essentially 0 teams in the meta that don't use a healer these days.

The others (like Yun Jin, Thoma, Xingqiu, Fischl, etc) are a bonus on top of an already-useful unit. You'd have them built and in rotation anyway. If you're a Noelle stan, you need C6. But you don't need her to clear endgame, she's just for fun. C6 gorou is a crit dmg boost, but he's clutch for DEF-scaling units at C0. C6 Kujou Sara exists. That's it. Unnecessary, clunky to play for buffs, and only a for-funsies investment if you like her. C6 Freminet and Gaming are nice boosts, but they will always have a lower damage ceiling than a 5-star, so play them at any con if you find their playstyle fun. Honestly the endgame is easy enough and 5-stars are accessible enough (and hyperbloom exists) that you won't find yourself hurting for lack of a C6.

For me Xingqiu being "comparable" to other viable 5-star equivalents brings his value up, not down. This allows players to get the units they actually need, at least for the beginning portion of account progression. Looking back at 4.0, I chose Lynney over Yelan, skipped Neuvilette to save for Furina, then afterwards I had enough currency leftover to get Navia (my favorite character that I was originally going to skip). Sure it's anecdotal, but you don't get bonus rewards for speedrunning Abyss either, not to mention player skill differences, etc. His "constellation issue" is also overexaggerated because he's in the starglitter shop. I'm biased towards waterboy, but I do think my account would be in much worse shape if he wasn't a viable stand-in for these units.

Roughly in order: Bennett Xiangling Xingqiu Fischl Sucrose Lynette -- beefy taunt, works on heavy enemies that Sucrose can't crowd control. Shinobu Yun Jin (how was she not even on this list??) Diona -- shields AND heals. If you're a new player, build her right now. Also has a speed buff for overworld. Layla -- super stronk shield YaoYao -- nearly always-on heals, some dendro application, and most importantly a burst that heals your entire team SUPER fast, faster than Baizhu at same investment. Beidou -- off-field electro that buffs normals AND charged, budget raiden for overload. Synergizes with Yanfei. If the top ranked units and/or hyperbloom aren't cutting it for damage, or you're bored: Noelle but C6 Gaming as burst DPS, maybe C6 needed idk but then he might rank around Yanfei without the C6 crit dmg buff. Chongyun burst nuke, and/or with Dragon's Bane/300 EM on-field Xiangling for melt. Yanfei, can apply pyro with no cooldown if you rotate between normal attacks, charged, skill, burst, and repeat. Works with Xingqiu, Beidou, Kaeya and Rosaria for reverse melt, etc. Build only for a specific team: Gorou -- as a support specifically for Noelle C6 or 5-star def-scaling DPS's. If you're running her on-field for dendro application in neko state, the only 4-star off-field hydro applicator for hyperbloom is Barbara, which is not a lot of hydro application. Xingqiu + dendro traveler for blooms is far better. If you want some mid shields, good overworld climbing, kinda useless dendro application, and dendro resonance for your team... I guess. Honorable mention, especially for Natlan: Kachina, but only WITH her new Cinder City artifact set. Literally any 4 pieces, any main stats, unleveled. You just want the set bonus. 40% damage bonus for the element she crystallizes with, works off-field, her elemental skill stays while she's off-field, and the buff lasts decently long. It's a fixed Archaic Petra support. Low investment, get her leveled just enough to not die instantly while throwing her skill down, (and/or leveled HP flower + her DEF polearm), leave all her skills at level 1. And she's very helpful for Natlan exploring, with her fast skill that climbs anything (ANYTHING) and the ability to swap to her while mid-action with another character. Dishonorable mention: Xinyan. Never build her unless you LOVE her. Shield is trash, and pyro has direct counter-synergy with superconduct, which is a requirement to make physical do enough damage to be even worth trying. It melts the cryo and overloads the electro, who designed this character? Just run Kaeya and Lisa.

I'm pleasantly surprised. People are usually deadset on National being the best 4 stars, but its really just not the case anymore. Kuki being at C0 with +0% ER single-handedly enables without a doubt the strongest reaction in the game. Even a new player can abuse it in early game with the free 4 stars, and she stays BiS even into late game. Tbh, I'd also put her above Chevreuse, but she's also somewhat similar in the single-handed enabling of strong comps at all investment levels. National is really strong, but vape isn't the uncontested best reaction anymore and those units also require expensive investment before they become good (except for Bennet, he still arguably deserves at least a top 3 spot).

I agree and don't, Kuki is the strongest most T0 C0 character in the game until you start finally getting great artifacts for whole teams of characters, then she is simply good, id put like 5th in top 5, but im fine with his placement of her because older players like myself with developed accounts don't need Jellos opinions, newer ones do and for that its really important and poignant. This lies is complete contrast with how he places Chevreuse but its his personal list, and Chevreuse atm does infact get under valued simply because no one has her at C6 let alone gets to experiment with her, so i think hes trying to be ahead of the curve so people know YES she is a big deal, even if others may argue he is overselling it

All you need: Xingqui, Bennett, Xiangling, Fischl, Kuki. All are basically 5 stars. Add on Yao Yao for elemental reactions and healing, along with Sucrose for EM buffing and swirls, and you’ve got a great base of 4 stars. Rosaria is also great value. Every other 4 star is just a cherry on top, and not really necessary for an account. I say this as someone who has played all of them.

I only have 2 hydro characters built and leveled... Furina and Xingqiu. Only way I could beat the pyro lectors in the current and last spiral abyss floor 12 was by doing a team consisting of Furina, Kazuha, Xingqiu, and an on-field Yaoyao... :skull: Furina EQ, Kazuha EQ, Xingqiu EQ, Yaoyao EQ, then run around doing normal attacks while the blooms do their thing. Rinse and repeat. By no means did I 3-star floor 12, but a win is a win lol. Yaoyao is great

the only issue i have with this whole list is i think Layla should be on this list. as someone who doesn't have zhongli, she's utterly invaluable in a lot of teams. and her c6 makes her dps and cryo application solid (or at least not embarrassing) and combined with her low ER requirements and her silly strong shield just make her the copium zhongli. Would i use her anywhere near as much if i had daddy geo? nope. but lacking him there really is no better alternative when you need a shield. is she better all round then kirara or yaoyao? meh... again i think it all depends on daddy geo. if you have him i doubt layla gets a lot of playtime. if you don't layla becomes one of the more useful 4* you'll have.

Disagree. Layla shouldn’t be on this list at all. Shielders in general have fallen off immensely. Zhongli is an exception because of the resistance shred he gives and the fact that he can hold 4p archaic petra. I can’t really think of any team other than maybe freeze Ganyu or Yoimiya variants where Layla would be the first choice 4-star option. And that’s solely for the interruption resistance. Most teams these days run healers anyway. Also the fact that she competes with Diona who also offers shielding, with a little healing and is a better battery.

This will get your through dungeons but the 3 bursts makes it clunky for overworld. If you only have enough characters for one side of Abyss, this will cover the second side. If you got Xiangling from Abyss, Lisa works with her decently well to make enemies fly around and keep you from dying. Xiangling + Lisa + Kaeya bursts + Barbara on-field heals will definitely get the job done.

If you are a BRAND new, low-AR player, use Amber as your crowd control with her taunt (although it is weak with a small radius), Kaeya and Lisa for superconduct reaction for phys def shred, and keep Kaeya on-field hitting with the physical dmg+ Prototype Rancour sword you get for free. You can use Anemo Traveler for emergency crowd control, or Noelle for heal rescue when you get her for free from the newbie banner. Noelle is better for Dragonspine than Barbara so it's worth building her early on.

After all, we're going to use them on teams, so even if they're very strong by themselves, sometimes there will be 5* characters that are indeed more suitable in certain cases. I'm very fond of this video and I appreciate the thought put in it. Also, Bennett totally rules!! He is and will always be my favorite 4* character. He's just so adorable. Can someone explain to people that if youre f2p you have all the 4stars in the game? Im f2p I dont have Beidou,Xinqing, Fishil,Heizou or YaoYao, but somehow C1 amber. Just cuz someone is f2p doesnt mean they have all the 4 stars, it means they dont waste money on pixels.

Usually if you are a 1.0 player, you will have most of the mondstat and liyue 4 stars to be c6.

It's not a waste if the person buying it wants it, also f2p isn't only including new players, some old players are also f2p and because majority of the players are not new and majority of the players are f2p, it's common for f2p's to have most of those 4 stars especially because half of them are in star glitter shop.

If you play for 6 months you would have at least xingqiu, benett or yao yao unless you save your wishes. Some accounts get sayu instead of yao yao for crystalfly protection. I had to save up for fischl but xiangling and lynette carried well for f2p

Genshin players assume everyone has played since 1.0 for some reason. Also they are easier to get. I have most of those characters after playing for 6 months, while f2p & not splurging fates on every banner. Only c0-3 tho

funny story i started playing during yelan's first banner: got c2 xingqiu, no yelan stopped playing returned only last december: got c3 xingqiu on march (gitter shop) lantern rite: got c4 xingqiu neuvilette/kazuha banner: got c5 xingqiu , no kazuha no neuvilette furina's banner: 130 pulls still no furina but randomly got xingqiu on standard banner at this point its not my fault why i only have xingqiu and no yelan, no neuvilette, no furina

I would argue against saying that Kuki even needs any constellation in order to show 95-99% of her potential, since 3s (C2 increase to the duration of her Elemental Skill) is not even the time it takes for Bloom Cores to expire, and you can only squeeze 2 ticks during that time anyways, one of which could be replaced by the first tick of the next Skill, effectively meaning that C2 only gives Kuki a single extra Electro tick every 15 seconds.

If you want off-field pyro damage OR frequent pyro application, Xiangling is the only option. If you just want damage period, she's not a requirement to clear endgame. Thoma applies pyro off-field, but with such a long ICD it's only good for burgeon, and he has crappy direct damage. Also requires a normal-attack on-field driver. Dehya, except she's only useful for burning and not even for burgeon due to infrequent skill hits; has low damage. Amber has low damage, extremely sparse pyro application off-field, and you may not even hit the enemy. If you need pyro off-field for damage/vape/melt/frequent elemental reactions, we just don't have another unit, period.

I didn't like XQ's position tbh. You compared him with furina who has a completely different playstyle. Yelan vs XQ is fair but not with furina. Also he is available in shop. So getting his cons with not be much a hassle. Also you dont have much problem with Faruzan being C6 but you immediately evaluated XQ's value on the basis of cons.

He's biased by the Fontaine teams... which really don't want XQ for their best teams. Only Navia wants XQ (or yelan). Every other new on-fielder would rather have other units. If you're still mostly rocking Sumeru or before on-fielders, than yeah XQ is great. But otherwise, he's really not as important anymore. The Furina comparison is there because excluding vape, Furina can also be an off-field hydro applier instead of XQ, and usually is a significant upgrade over him because of her damage buffs. Yes, XQ provides damage & interruption resistance, but that doesn't warrant missing out on 75% team dmg bonus and stronger off-field damage. Genshin is biased towards dealing damage, as killing things faster = you taking less damage anyways.

Agree. XQ and Bennett are the only MUST have's out of all these. Xiangling you will get either way. The others are more niche. XQ, Bennett and Sucrose can slot into any single team and make it really good.

I can see Jello still hasn't built his Noelle with her not being on the list. It's looking like she's going to get another buff from natlan with Xilonen being rumoured to be a geo/general support and the 5.0 set essentially being a better archaic petra that works on geos. Shes already strong on top of having some of the best survivability so the upcoming potential buffs are just crazy. Hopefully by then Jello builds up his Noelle.

There are a few characters that could be on this list as well like rosaria, Layla and heizou. I still think this list is probably correct and Noelle doesn't provide as much value as the above. Her cool down is terrible as a shielder and needs a very specific team to work somewhat well as a dps. She is also so extremely c6 dependent and requires either redhorn or serpent spine. She isn't on the same level as a gaming dps since gaming does more damage as a peak and is more flexible with weapons. This is not to say that Noelle is bad but she requires very high level of investment to allow her to be on the same tier as the above characters (any character in the game with enough investment can be good).

Noelle Furina is extremely overhyped. She's essentially a geo downgrade to to Gaming, and as we know on-fielder is very pricey role. Noelle doesn't offer much more than shielding, while sacrificing better element and access to better supports

Xingqiu is an interesting case for me. For f2p he is hands down the most useful 4 star to have built. Once you get Furina and Yelan, you stop finding reasons to use him, so he doesn’t seem like a must build anymore.

Why do you compare Xingqiu to Neuvillette ? Xingqiu is a sub dps with a high single target application and you compare him to a hydro hypercarry aoe with worse hydro application than him. Man, I garantee you Xingqiu is better than Neuvillette by a lot in a team with Arlecchino, Hu Tao, Alhaitham, ... I have Yelan C0 and Xingqui C6, I use Xingqiu more in abyss than Yelan. Her ER issue is just too bad without double hydro. But that's just me I guess.

The ER reqs between c0 Yelan and C6 XQ in most teams is about 25% assuming u use sac sword XQ and Fav yelan. So, its not that bad at all. Also, yelan can get 2 Es on some teams like Arle vape and that makes her ER reqs alot lower too

Chevruse has literally NEVER left my main team (and since sigewinne only when pyro isn’t ideal) since I got her. Damage buffing aside, she single handedly has kept me alive in almost every situation needed.

@@viviniciuslol The fact that Faruzan only works with two characters could be left as is (DPS Xianyun, C6 Lynette, DPS Jean, Heizou all work great too) However, it should also be mentioned that Chevreuse only works with two specific ELEMENTS. And her only big teams are currently Raiden hyper-, Arlecchino hyper- and Clorinde hyper-carry. Most other teams have much better alternatives, especially if you don't have a Chevreuse C6, which has only been seen once in the banner. I own 3 Accounts, all AR 60 since Day one. I own Chevreuse C0 on two accounts and I can say, I play her very rarely because she is almost always a downgrade to other Team Setups. The only real exception was against the LvL 100 Tulpa in the Abyss on her release. Hydro Elemental Enemies is where she really slaps at C0.

Furina being uswd over xingqiu is fair, but if i use yelan, then its usually with xingqiu, maybe im too 4 star brained, but i like xingqiu much more than yelan, i feel like getting yelans ult up is more of a hassle than sac sword xingqiu if its solo hydro. (Also as a xiao/xiangling main, having sucrose below faeuzan feels like a crime)

I have 17 4 stars build and those are basicaly the list above + Noelle (early main dps), Beidou (under right circumstances certainly contender for the list), Thoma (great shield option with addition of burgeon trigger), Layla (probably best shield outside of Zhongli) and Lynette (don't ask, cat ears is reason enough, she's solid but I definitely wouldn't put her on a list or consider building for her performance pre c6 where you can use her as dps). I plan to build Rosaria and consider Kujou Sara and Gorou to enable their mono teams. Most other units are servicable but honestly it's hard to recomend with how hard it is to farm everything for properly build unit. PS. Lame to make rules just to break them. It's top 12 so name it that way.
