Most of Bill Russell’s are in HOF bc of him and it was 60+ years ago, so they’re going to make it eventually.

Fr his hof teammates that were primarily offensive players had the team’s offense at or near the bottom of the league for most of the 60s until Bill became the coach.

Exactly, wilt had plenty of hall of famers too, and most of Russell’s teammates are hall of famers because of the number of rings they have, not because of the actual talents they are, if wilt won more rings, his teammates would’ve been hall of famers too, he was selfish

Yeah, and also Bill’s teams had either the same amount of All stars, or sometimes less, than the Jerry West lakers, or Wilt’s teams. Those Celtics teams weren’t always as league dominating as people think, and they just won an insane amount of close games and game 7s/elimination games. Even if they were dominating everyone, succeeding 11 times at the highest level in any sport is impressive af. And Bill played pretty much every game in a time where the pace was the highest its ever been. Even if the comp was ass, being able to play 40-45 mins a night over 70 games while wearing Chuck taylors is something not few people could condition themselves to do, so I think we should give them their credit.

I love this comment as an old harden fan but all those playoff chokes add up…. He’s the most confusing all time great because his negative isn’t just that he doesn’t have a ring, but that he lost the way he did. Skill wise though, you’re right, it’s no argument he’s top 5. Add in playoff performance and he’s cooked. Proof is in the pudding cause even in these past 2 playoff runs i watched him go pretty much scoreless/shotless in very important second halves/fourth quarters. I love the guy but i can’t be a fan no more cause of the pain and suffering he’s caused me.😂

1:00:30 That might be a loaded question - but really from the context of how we've viewed basketball greats. Of the top 10 players all time, whether people want to admit it or not, there are VERY FEW Dominant defenders. Russell, MJ, Hakeem - IF you even have Hakeem in there - and Tim Duncan if you want to squeeze him in there for defensive longevity. People will glaze their GOAT's defense to include them conveniently, but none of the other top 10 - or even 20, were truly dominant defenders. I wouldn't even give them "elite" unless Giannis and Kawhi qualify (and Kawhi fell off TREMENDOUSLY when he became an offensive centerpiece)
@Someone-hi1nt
@Someone-hi1nt Жыл бұрын
im a jordan fan and have him as my goat, but theres absolutely no way you can put him over hakeem or duncan DEFENSIVELY... hakeem is probably the greatest defender ever, and tim duncan at his peak was maybe the best defensive anchor of all time, and he maintained that anchor spot for nearly 20 years while being elite every year... theres a reason why he made 15 all defensive teams and why the spurs were near the top in defense every year anyway id say most people have the following top 11 (not necessarily in order) mj, insane defensive peak, maintained it for his whole career lebron, insane defensive peak, maintained it for a good portion of his career kareem, great defensive peak, maintained it for most of his career magic, probably one of the bottom 2 defensively out of this list duncan, one of the greatest defenders ever, maintained it for basically his whole career bird, good defender, but not elite like some of the others, maintained it for some of his career, not all of it russell, one of the defensive goats and greatest anchors ever, whole career shaq, good, not elite defender, maintained it for a while but not his whole career kobe, good, not elite defender, maintained it for a while but not his whole career hakeem, imo the defensive goat, but if not you have to have him top 3... maintained it for most of his career curry, like magic, in the bottom 2 defensively out of this list of 11 players no, you dont have to be elite defensively to be a legend, but if you wanna be the goat, you definitely have to be at least a great defender unless youre absolutely insane on offense... curry and magic are both arguably top 5 offensive players ever but you rarely see them being brought up for actual goat debates, top 10 and even top 5 debates for magic tho

Not really he put MJ in on the 80’s when technically you could put isaiah cause yeah MJ was the best player. Isaiah and them pistons along with Bird were taking turns on MJ in those 80’s and won a title more than once. Magic was pretty much fucking the whole NBA condomless it was literally his decade and there’s nothing you can say about that so if anything he was generous my eyes especially when MJ only played 5 years which is arguably the shortest one out of all of these players and he still let him in so it’s pretty much a flex not a discredit you probably just don’t like the fact he doesn’t love MJ like not all of us do bro it’s not that deep Jordan literally got put in two decades along side Kareem. As for LBJ bruh come on… the guy that’s had more pressure than anyone coming into the league and was pretty much so good he didn’t even get given time to settle but averaged like 27ppg in like his 3rd season with a broken jumper (his pull up jumper was slept on tho) I don’t need to explain that part too tough plus it would make him look like a hypocrite if he didn’t add Bron in the 00’s cause MJ had less years in the 80 than Bron did in 00’s and Bron did A LOT in those 00’s

What you don't understand about Bird is ppl who view him that highly of a shooter base it of his impact on the league. His shooting numbers are ridiculous compared to today standards but in his era he wasn't a good shooter, he was like Stephen Curry to these guys. Dude was averaging more 3 pt as an individual than teams were shooting as a collective. The 3pts line was still a new thing and most coaches would bench their players for pulling up from 3 EVEN IF IT WAS THE END OF POSSESSION. Not only did he make shooting cool, but he also changed the way coaches approach it. There are tons of players who shot efficiently from 3 but there are only 2 who had this kind of impact with it.

Wilt's biggest choke job was the 1963 season. He averaged 45 points per game, and had 3 other players on his team that made the all-star team that season. His team not only missed the playoffs, they only won 31 GAMES!!! How does that even happen!? Only one of those teammates missed any significant time (Tom Gola only played 21 games), the rest all played over 64 games at least. He will simultaneously talk about how dominant Shaq was but ignore that Shaq DIDNT win in the 90s. He started winning when the most dominant bigs of the old era retired. He crucifies Jordan with that exact same logic he ignores for Shaq. Comp arguments are the worst because 1. You can only play whos in front of you. 2. If we contextualise the eastern conference for the past 20 years we are having different convos about A LOT of players. I only bring this up because he spends a long time bashing Jordan for no reason. It's the only player he does it to and he does it in every single video.

I don’t know why you are bringing up the last 20 years and saying “a lot” of players when the target is LeBron But there’s 2 things: 1 it’s to get offended And 2 he goes there because it’s a common discourse that anybody finding success on a level jordan didn’t possess is automatically relegated to competition being questionable. Bill Russells entire league is put into question, Kareem (because of his individual accolades) has his entire decade just turned into as “weak” and how “most” of the stars were in the ABA (despite when all the ABA stars came to the nba in 77 and Kareem was still far better then everyone even at an older age) how Shaq dominated when there was no true bigmen and LeBron in his east. It just comes off childish and fanboy that the era that so happened to have Michael Jordan was the perfect era that doesn’t seem to garner criticism from the causal fan. And all because of mostly marketing, idc how much people cry the difference between Russell’s 11 and Jordan’s 6 goes down to the marketing because there still isn’t a finals where Jordan never actually saw a player who could come somewhat close to be scoring output when he was winning, meanwhile Russell saw Baylor and West both dropping over 32 ppg and figured out how to win showing being the best scoring talent didn’t work to a title back in Russell’s days (or even in any days outside of the 90s which should at the very least be considered) Yes lebrons east is questionable but Jordan had just as bad as an Easfern conference when he started winning (and no naming the best player on the team doesn’t make the team a great team, it’s just a great player on a bad team that’s it. Majority of the east on average couldn’t even take Chicago to 6 games and were usually gentlemen swept.) And Shaq dominated with a lack of big men (Duncan apparently doesn’t exist) but who at SG was even considered anyone to really look at in the 90s? Clyde Reggie and Mitch that’s really it so 2 series of the multiple in his 90s career means anything? He honestly just throws the same logic at everybody else into jordan.
@thetank5642
@thetank5642 Жыл бұрын
What you said is technically true but explain this… Who did Shaq lose to in 96, who did he lose to from 97-99??? The great bigs were already falling off by then and he was still losing to the Bulls and Utah. Also your argument is kinda stupid in the first place. Shaq lost to one of these great bigs once, which was Hakeem in 95. Jordan consistently lost to the Celtics and Pistons from 1986-1990.
@wooiiin7281
@wooiiin7281 Жыл бұрын
Yk you could’ve just said lebron. Anyways the east was bad but the east wasn’t no better in the 90s. Most teams weren’t built to win over the bulls and please don’t say someone’s name and think it’s a good team cause I promise u that’s a bad idea. There was no comp at sg position besides Reggie who was a defensive liability compared to the big position who had Alonzo & ewing and when Shaq went to the west malone Duncan hakeem Kg etc were all comp at his position. Even when they both went to the finals hakeem was at his peak and all of mjs rings who did he play? Clyde, that’s it. Everyone seems to think that the 90s was a golden era simply because of mj but he does it on purpose because it’s not the case. He really does it to a bunch of players but anytime mj is talked bad about mfs get bent out of shape. He’s said things about the 60s and 70s. He’s said things about the east but when it’s about jordan everyone’s all ears. People love to try and say mj dominated in a big man era but those exact people get mad when others criticize mjs position comp bc who was guarding mj and putting out the same offensive output?

Lebron was the main reason those teams won tho, he was more valuable to the super team then kg was… but i personally don’t think super teams have negative impact on someone’s legacy because everybody has somebody… kobe had shaq, jordan had pippen and rodman… every superstar needs help and i don’t think that a team building around a player should have more merit then a player joining a team… players like durant and lebron get a lot of flack because they joined the team opposed to having it built around them… but they still had to go out there and win the chips right?

This is for arguments sake but bill Russell was the reason Boston started winning so much after he joined. If I'm not mistaken at the time the hawks was racist or whatever and didn't want him on their team originally. That is what a all time great player does, especially the fact that of HIS era he was the reason they won so much

Scouted his team for weaknesses better than opponents. Had Wilt not focused on getting laid he would have scouted his team and incorporated them more and Bill wouldnt have 11 titles in 13 years. maybe because it was? no ones saying shaqs overall career was much better, but do you realize that shaq had a top 3 peak of all time? and that peak overlapped with a developing kobe bryant... sure, kobe had maybe 3 playoff series' that were on par or better than shaq between 96 and 03, but the other like 15, shaq outperformed kobe, and it was clear in regular seasons too that shaq was the far superior player

He only had one superteam on the heat and anyways it was only really a superteam only until like 2012, because after that dwade’s knees were busted and Chris bosh was also out of his prime. Istfg if you try to say the cavs with kai were a superteam… Kevin Love was a fringe all-star caliber player and Kyrie isn’t really a superstar and he never was. And then if you argue that AD and Bron is a superteam that doesn’t make sense because that would mean the Shaq and Kobe lakers were a superteam, or that the Pippen and Jordan Bulls prior to rodman were a superteam. They weren’t, just two all-time greats were on the same team. Lebron was on one superteam that only lasted like 2 years maybe 3.

Lol but the Lakers haven’t only won 1 title since Magic left, I think if it wasn’t for Boston getting punked in the playoffs every year for the last 40 barring 08, people would have more respect for those old wins as well. It just makes it seem like you were collecting championships in the league’s infancy and holding them with the same weight as a title won in the last 40 years, which is ridiculous. There was a max of 12 teams before 1970, and many of those were brand new franchises.
