It's been 5 years since we last ranked the top 5 underrated guns, thus, in this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves revisits the subject, but with a twist: 1) The guns must still be in production; 2) No two guns from the same manufacturer are in the list, and; 3) No guns from the 2016 list are going to be included in the 2021 list.
We've also got a contest going: The top 5 comments on our subreddit post for the most OVERRATED guns will get gun swag and a shout out when that video drops. The link is here: / what_are_the_most_over...

Hey guys! We HUGELY appreciate the mention of the Samson A-TM Folding Stock for the Ruger Mini-14 at 16:58 ! And we would love the TFB TV audience know that we'll be releasing the these fantastic folders in Black Oxide finish early in Q1 2022. That also goes for the B-TM folder, made expressly for the immensely popular Ruger 10/22, which is available right now. Thanks, brothers!

I honestly agree with the Arex firearms in general, as the zero one is now my new carry gun and I'm enjoying it. However, one gun that I really enjoy is the RIA 1911 FS as a 1911 fan boy. The gun isn't special in any way the outshoot other brands but is serves as the base line for any modern 1911 as the price and parts can allow you modify and understand the basic behind its mechanics.

Have you tried Midway to see if they have any mags? I haven't bought anything from them in the past few years though. Around 2017, I ordered 2 -16rnd Mecgar mags to go with the 2 that came with my CZ-75BD. Just about everywhere I checked, the price for these mags were between $39.00 - &49.00 each. I believe Midway's price was about $20.00 - $25.00, same brand Mecgar. At the same time, I ordered 4- 8rnd Promags for my S&W 39A. These model 39A were issued a lot during Vietnam and had steel slides and aluminum frames. The only place I could find them was on Ebay and everybody thought they must've been made from gold judging by the asking prices.. I wasn't about to pay $45.00- $65.00 for a 8 round mag. Midway had several Promag versions for about $10 - $15 each. They had magas for just about every firearm you could think of and their prices beat most other places by a long shot. I just wanted to throw it out there so maybe it will help. Cheers

Not a huge fan of the APX. Maybe this changes with break in, but I find the trigger safety exceptionally bad. The trigger itself is okay, but honestly worse than my PSA Dagger. I'm a huge Beretta fan, I love the 90 series, PX4, CX4, and even to some extent the ARX 100. I carry a 92X Compact, however, I find the APX doesn't do anything a stock Glock or any other striker fired handgun can't do with miles better features out of the box, including Glock despite being a blank slate handgun meant to be customized.

I bought a P 32 shortly after it came out and, after 20 years, it's still shooting reliably. For me, it is not a gun I shoot 100 rounds per session for fun. My favorite underrated gun is the Arcus 98DAC. Basically a 9mm Bulgarian DA/SA Hi-Power clone, it's heavy so it soaks up recoil, uses Hi-Power mags, plus you can carry it Condition One cocked-&-locked. Also, I just bought one for $350, so it's "inexpensive." Btw James, I've been to Thunder Ranch for the Revolver, Advanced Pistol, Shotgun & just last February Urban Rifle. I think the most underrated gun is the MAC 10/MAC 11 pistols. The biggest complaint about them is that they are ugly, but what mature gun owner chooses a gun based on looks? The MAC pistols have basically turned into the AR15 of pistols in terms of how modular they are. You can switch out uppers just like you can on an AR15. There are even 5.56 uppers for MAC 10/MAC 11 pistols. Several different stocks, from folding, fixed, collapsible etc. I am actually surprised they are not more popular. I would honestly pick a MAC pistol over an MP5 or an UZI. Yes I said it, and if I had to choose between the three, I'd pick a MAC and not think twice about it. As for this list, I've never thought the Mini 14 was underrated, and it is my favorite rifle. Although I do prefer the older Mini 14 that people claim was junk. I think the worst thing they did to the Mini 14 was get rid of the big front sight. That big shark fin looking front sight is way better than the new front sight they use. I can understand Ruger using a thicker barrel, but changing the front sight ruined it for me. I just think it was much easier to stay on target with the old sight, and it gave a clearer field of view. It is like the new front sight gives me tunnel vision, and I just don't like it compared to the old sight.

Good video. I bought 3 High Point 9s from a guy whose license was about to expire in the early 90s. I paid $72 apiece for them. I kept one and gave the other 2 to my Sons. My one boy said '"Thanks Dad, But it's not an S&W". Pissed me off. I said, "If you don't want it give it back. If you have to shoot a a sonofabitch I guarantee the last words out of his mouth won't be asking what make of gun you shot him with". Anyway, High Point guns are the SKS of pistols.. Tough, durable, etc... I've shot with guys who of course laughed but when their high-dollar pistols were jamming the High Point was firing away. If I were in a gunfight I'd I'd pick the High Point over my Taurus, S&W & Ruger. When empty I can always throw the heavy sonofabitch at'em. Even thinking about buying a new one.

If they were still in current production, SKS would be up there. Grew up seeing all the surplus ones, but never had much interest until they skyrocketed in price during the surplus craze. Went in my local shop for ammo and they had a really nice Chinese Type 56 for 500. It was all matching, stock had some noticeable wear but the rest of the gun was very clean. It looked very Russian despite being a Type 56, and turns out with some more digging that's because it's a 1956 production rifle, back when the Soviets were helping produce the first batches in the Jianshe Arsenal, so it lacks all the later markings and just has a numerical serial number, darker wood and a blade style bayonet. Shot it for the first time yesterday, and damn it is really nice. Trigger beats out all my other military style triggers minus the SIG 550 trigger. Its stock lends to a far superior, more consistent sight picture than the AK (seriously, I fucking hate the standard pattern AK stocks) and loading the thing with stripper clips was like butter. Accuracy was ever so slightly better than my AK, but nothing spectacular, like 2.5-3 MOA at 100 yards, but still pretty good for as cheap and old as it was. Compared to my Steyr 1912 and other stripper clip fed guns I've loaded, SKS is the only one I could see reloading as fast as a magazine. Did not think my 500 dollar Chinese garbage rod would turn out to be one of my favorites. I also just don't see SKS fanboys out there like you see it's contemporaries. Definitely the most underrated gun I've ever bought.

@@johnelder4273 I feel it is hard to rapid fire a SKS like a semi-auto AK cuz the action bolt carrier moves too slow. I can pull the trigger faster than the bolt can keep up and i would pull the trigger and it would not fire because the semi-auto sear did not re-set. i would have to let the trigger forward to re-set then pull and it would fire. It was never meant to be full Auto. Mines never double fired on me but a co-worker did say his would double or triple fire sometimes. I feel the Semi-auto sear contact to the hammer would be wearing out when that happens and there is a delayed hammer letting loose. Good guns for $100 to $200 dollars.

The SKS is one of the best weapons ever made hands down, if it weren't for the AK I'm sure the Russians would still be using it now lol. I'm really upset I wasn't financially able or old enough to buy one when they were still like 200-300$ when I was in HS. I think the FN 509 midsize is one of the most underrated guns. All the things Glocks are missing like metal sights, guide rods, and mags. Made in the USA being another major feature. Not to mention all the other little details and it costs less!
@epeeist254
@epeeist254 2 жыл бұрын
Being a red dot fan, I also happen to think the factory FN 509 mounting system is the best in the category AND they send you all the plates and spacers along with the gun. Unlike my HK that I had to buy the plate aftermarket... I have an MRD and a Tactical, love the platform.
@sgthop
@sgthop 2 жыл бұрын
I am super not a fan of the 509. They're reliable enough, but the trigger on them is somehow worse than Glock and the fit and finish was atrocious on the two that I owned. The gap between the slide and frame was massive, and would be an ingress point for dirt and fouling. I liked some of the features, but the gun itself felt cheap. An updated FNS would have been much better.
@chrisbaker978
@chrisbaker978 2 жыл бұрын
@@sgthop I respect your opinion brother. But you should know this, the gap as you call it(loose tolerances) is what allows the gun to function more reliably. The tighter tolerances on pistols such as 1911s is what causes them to seize up from dirt. The more space the easier it is to function and clear out the debree. I’ve had several and the finish on all mine is superb. I’m content with the trigger. Not the best or worst. But the combination of features, pricing, and overall quality is very good to me. FN is ahead of their time.
@sgthop
@sgthop 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbaker978 It would be one thing if they were all uniform, but none of the 509s I've seen have had the same gap, either, which leads me to bring up the poor manufacturing tolerances again. The 1911 comparison isn't exactly fair, as the 1911 uses full length rails. A more apt comparison would be the P320 or G17, both of which are incredibly reliable and do not have half-millimeter gaps in their frame that you can see through. The only thing the 509 has going for it is a nice optics mounting solution, other than that it's just a mediocre striker fired handgun.

What you are doing wrong with that gun is never put more than 6 rounds total in that gun, One ( 1 ) in chamber and 5 in mag. if you put 1 in chamber and 6 in mag, the top 6th round in mag is too tight up against the bottom of the slide block and it tends to jam after the first round is fired. Second... is i use to cut down / file down ( its Plastic / polymer ) to flush against frame the mag release button. it tended to pop out the mag in my pocket. its fine when flush and you push in good with your thumb to eject mag. I've owned many handguns over the years, and the PX4 Storm Compact 9mm is my favorite out of all of them. Previous favorites were the Sig P228 and HK USPc 9mm, but those guns are very heavy and super high bore axis, respectively. The PX4c 9mm is my new favorite of all time. It's definitely a little on the thicc side, but it still conceals great in my Kramer Leather #3 IWB holster, with that aggressive tilt that keeps the trip tucked in close to your body to help conceal. I used to be concerned about the gap between the barrel and slide around the ejection port caused by the rotating barrel, but I've dropped it dozens of times in dirt (on purpose and accidentally) and sand (all accidentally) and never had a single malfunction with it. I never buried it or kicked it around and deliberately got crud in there, but I figure a drop and quick pickup are the most common occurrence one would run into, and assuaged my doubts about the rotating barrel. All in all, it's a fantastic little gun, and can be found for the price of a new Glock 19. I bought a factory Type F (decocker and safety) and converted it to a Type G (decocker, no manual safety) with Beretta's low-profile decocker. Handles and shoots like a dream, and everyone who shoots it loves it.

Pretty much all these guns [except maybe the longer barreled Rex] is prohibited in Canada...😖😖😖 Never stop defending your rights, Americans...👍👍👍

I guess I’m a weirdo because I’ve wanted to buy a PX4 Storm for a long time. They’ve always just been interesting to me.

Best handgun I own. I have a compact .40 s&w and a full size 9 mm and just ordered the PX4 Storm SD .45 acp. You will not be disappointed.

@@proverbialmind_spread9421 I’d already have one but I already have 2 pistols and keep buying and wanting to buy more rifles lol. I’m gonna get the full size 9mm PX4 eventually though.

I love my keltec 32acp. It rides around in my bino harness when I'm hunting and has definitely been used point blank on a couple animals.

Long before anyone was buying AR’s, the Mini-14 was THE carbine to own. Scaled down M-14 with great reliability, but they ran the pencil barrels hidden under the handguard that did not lend much to accuracy. It was later improved. We also had things like the Marlin Camp Carbine mag fed in 9 or 45. But we also had 12ga Streetsweepers, MAC-10’s, and UZI’s.
