The Furious and Permafost caverns are two examples of why I still feel so much nostalgia for 2.0. As much as we love to joke about levels looking outdated and messy and having really dumb gameplay from people getting carried away with all the shiny new toys available, the update was also an extremely strong catalyst for a lot of creators to materialise their strong creative visions that were once locked away in their brains.

Future Funk would genuinely be one of my favorite hard demons if the ending didn't exist. I know that it was nerfed a tad later on, but putting a massive chokepoint at the end of the level drags down a level that aside from that is really fun to play. It just felt like it was done for the purpose of player reactions. Psychosis might be my favorite Hinds level in terms of execution, because I think it nails something a lot of levels don't do very well: tension. The level starts out fairly slow, then it speeds up with much more fast paced gameplay, until it goes back to slower, but more precise gameplay with lots of aggressive colors in the background. The second part gives me the adrenaline a lot of levels didn't manage to do. Also one thing I really like about Forest Temple is how well it actually has aged. It was made very early in 2.0, but its simplicity and the color scheme do hold up quite well even today.

Man I just love how Conchetumare X makes you so confused with all these coins that are in seemingly unreachable spots. When you try to collect them and fail you think that MAYBE, MAYBE it IS possible with more precise timing. Every time is so close yet so far. In my opinion it's the biggest mystery about this level... until you realize how Nacho got it all to work

I've said it before and I'll say it again but the best storytelling levels in the game are A Fishing Trip and Hungry Humphrey, which is weird to say because they're both intended to be joke levels or w/e. cw2003 gb just makes really exceptional use of surreal visuals and deceptive tones all around, it's kinda crazy. Honestly just having a cw2003 gb level in 1# just instantly makes this video that much more respectable, props to you for pulling through with finishing this video, I can tell you had tons of fun putting it together!

Really well crafted video & it introduced me to a bunch of cool levels I've never heard of before. My only gripe with it is that in some of the earlier reviews, you spent almost the entire time talking about what you disliked about the level, which led me to think, "So why does he like this level enough to call it a top 50 best hard demon of all time?" It's understandable though since the video would probably be like 2+ hours long if you gave a full evaluation to every single level, so I can't really be mad about it

Thanks for giving Cryo it's praises, it genuinely might be my favorite hard demon of all time. Also, was not expecting Permafrost Caverns to be that high, not that it's bad, it's great actually, it came outta nowhere honestly. Forsaken Neon is my favorite/best Zobros level, incredibly happy to see it at the high 20s. You putting the new recent CW 2003 level at #1 waw unfathomably based. Nine Circles at #9 was really cheeky but i can't complain since it's a classic and it deserves it. That's all i really have to say for now, i woke at 1 am for this and was already late for the premiere so sorry if this sounds super disjointed, cut me some slack. Incredibly well-made and solid list, your most consistent and possibly your best list so far. Wherwinning.

AMELANCHIER is my favorite level so I'm glad it's high on the list. I get the drop seeming too chaotic but for me it adds to the autmosphere. The song feels strangley calm but the gameplay is so much more open and intense and it just gives such mixed but cool feelings, escpecially from 0. I also just love the creator's gameplay and the song creator's songs so there's a lot of bias at play, but still.

Flåklypa is actually a Norwegian stop motion movie franchise that has become somewhat of a cultural touchstone for us Norwegian people, though it did originate as a comic strip but then got adapted, and the adaptation is the more well known series. The title is often translated to Pinchcliffe in English. The song where they shout FLAKLYPA is a remix of the main theme of said movie franchise, actually i believe it was commissioned by a russegruppe (a group of teenagers gathering to celebrate the 17th of may, Norway's birthday, where alcohol is consumed) TLDR: You are not swearing, you are saying the name of the fictional* place of Flåklypa :3 *there is also a real place called Flåklypa

For your criticism in levels I always take them as sorta honest commentary in a very particular perspective, sure I don't always agree with some stuff you say (Memory Level fan here after all) but it's always nice to see how you try phrasing your thoughts about the levels, even when they might sound not as cohesive at some points You do manage to a lot of times paint a pretty clear picture of what kind of level you would like, and I think that's something not really as easy to get from constant reviews

future funk will always be my favorite hard demon and maybe even favorite level of all time. It was by far the biggest jump in difficulty I ever made and learning the gameplay was really fun. And even though the level is 4 minutes it always felt pretty relaxing to play and I never truly got frustrated while playing it. The gameplay is really fun while being straightforward (for the most part). And despite deco not being crazy good, combined with the song it gives off a very cool kinda nostalgic vibe and it just provides a really memorable experience overall. Idk thats just how I feel

There were some picks I was surprised that were on here. I noticed that you tended to gravitate towards levels that were artistically interesting to you and bonus points for having fun/interesting gameplay. When I rank my favorite Hard Demons, I tend to focus only on how much fun I have beating them. There are some interesting levels on here that I didn’t know about, and some levels I should get to beating: Permafrost Caverns, AMELANCHIER, and Outsider Zone.

30:26 I screamed (angrily) Since I played it in very early 2021, Forsaken Neon has been my hate boner level. It was by far the most grueling, absolute abhorrent experience I've ever had with any game. I made a 13 post long rant on my GD profile after I beat it, but here's a rewrite I guess First of all, the first wave and ship. The wave is the first of many that has its difficulty come directly from this intrepid idea of "heehee click fast and pray", which - I have to stress - is not good gameplay. Admittedly you can make a click pattern for it, but that doesn't help with what follows. No matter what your method is, the transition into the ship is simply unfair. Not to mention, the ship in general is a ridiculously brutal difficulty spike. As will be made obvious later, ship has always been my worst gamemode, but I doubt that most people beating this as their second hardest find this ship free. Thankfully, that leads into a break for a little while until the second wave comes along to ruin my day. Its difficulty comes from a similar place as the first wave in which you just have to spam, but the random speed portals that cover the part force you to realign yourself constantly, and hope you don't get unlucky. Wave spam always sucks. After a couple more parts with little moments of cruelty, you reach the 3rd wave, the last spam based one. It ends with the unexaggerated worst transition I've ever seen or played. It's a 3x speed wave spam in a less than 3 block wide corridor that transitions into a cube. The cube portal is not far away enough from the spikes to avoid dying to the gamemode change. What makes it worse is that you have to pay attention to what follows instead of the wave alone because if you don't see the upcoming spikes at the bottom right fade away, you have to do a blind double spike jump at slow speed. I don't think I need to further explain why that's horrible, and if I do, just look at the level. The second half of the level feels quite different than the first, while somehow being consistently worse. The opening cube seems to have been specifically made to be as awkward as possible. Nothing about it feels natural, and if you have a bad alignment at 60% you may as well not even try. It's horrendous. The following and final wave should be the one saving grace of the second half, but unfortunately RobTop had to make the worst hitbox known to man. The corner block of the electroman adventures style blocks. Its hitbox is literally a cube that's very slightly smaller the a full grid block. What the hell. It causes 64% to become yet another random chokepoint, especially since at the time I had no way of seeing what this hitbox looked like. And then... The Finale. Shit. The last ball is well known to be a disgustingly buggy part. There are two timings that just decide to never work for no reason. On rare occasion the slope at 78% just doesn't work, but I fortunately only died to it oncefrom 0. I can't say the same for 80%. It's a blue orb that you're required to buffer, but 25% of the time you'll just hit this stupid ass slope that doesn't even need to exist. I died here 6 times. After that is the last ship (of COURSE it ends in a ship). It's just one thing over and over. Change gravity, stabilize, fall, rise, repeat. That doesn't change the fact that it is a tight part at the end of a buggy, unbalanced mess, so nerves are rampant. I died to this ship 6 times as well. Finally, at the bitter end, a straight fly. One final test of nerves and overall ship control. Also, the hardest thing to do in GD (buff this is probably list worthy for me). I died to this straight fly a grand, whopping total of SEVEN TIMES. MUST I ELABORATE? I kinda have to bring up the decoration at least a little bit. I don't care for it. It has some cool designs, but the colours often make it an eyesore. And I usually like eyesores... when they have more than one colour. It's literally just neon blue for a minute and a half. Like come on dude, neon is generally colourless, and its not even blue if you put it in a tube on its own! It's just a stupid choice that blurs parts of the level together if you just watch it. The song is fine, not Dimrain's best but Dimrain tends to always be good anyway. Anddd yeah that's the end of my review/rant and summary of why Forsaken Neon is the only rated level I've ever given a 0/10. Alright, with that out of the way, a compliment (because I usually like being positive). I loved how you set up the editing. Almost every single time you mentioned a specific part of a level, that part would play without any cuts. It's super impressive, and greatly appreciated.

A little bit disappointed that Tribal Tribulation by EpicLucas didnt make this list. To me, this does what LMAnubis did in levels such as Permafrost Caverns to a whole other level. The gameplay is stellar and innovative and the atmosphere it pulls off was unseen for its time and still holds up INSANELY well for today. Genuinely the most underappreciated level at its time (getting 32nd place feature) and definitely without a doubt my favorite Geometry Dash level of all time. If yall havent checked it out I highly recommend it!

I like a lot of levels on this list but I'll say that there were many bangers that would easily make the list such as EXHAUST, Chrono Sanctuary, or Ring Trick which are excellent in terms of atmosphere and gameplay. I respect Permafrost Caverns and sunward being high on the list.

So I really liked this video! Very engaging and it was cool to see some levels I was unfamiliar with! But I was pretty curious about the standards you use to judge levels with. I'm not like, an expert at GD or anything, so I haven't completed a lot of the levels on here, but there are some hard demons I'm familiar with that I'm surprised to have not seen. I guess you could call them "masterpiece" levels, in that they're more visually focused, but I'm talking stuff like Sedulous, The Eschaton, Temple of Time, etc. I'm not trying to argue they should be present, but I just feel like I'm not understanding the criteria you're going by. On top of this, you have a lot of criticisms for the lower levels, so I question how they ended up in your top 50 despite all that. Again, I'm not trying to argue or disagree, I would just really appreciate if you could clarify the standards you use for level judgement. Thanks! :)

I don't have a concrete set of standards, I just go by feel for the most part. I do explain my reasoning for every placement, that should give you a general idea of what I'm looking for. There's two reasons why I'm more critical near the beginning of the video. For one, I guess I just have high standards. But for two, when it came to choosing levels for this list, I would prefer levels that had a cool and unique concept that were flawed in some way over levels that were more on the safe side. As for Sedulous, I just don't think it looks that good. It feels overdesigned and very messy. I didn't place The Eschaton because I don't like Xender's gameplay, and I have a whole video already going over my problems with boss fights in Geometry Dash Temple of Time is cute, but I give original levels preferential treatment over remakes. It's basically just a mashup of Michigun levels, and Forest Temple is already on the list

as a victor of nie as a hardest at the time, I really love the vibes but the experience is mentally challenging even for skilled players due to how hard the ending is. you cant see anything and there are several 2-frame timings on 60hz in it
