I'm sorry this post is so long, but here's my story. Years ago when I was a kid, there was a Play-Doh toy called ''Count Creepy Head''. It was kind of an odd toy in that it tried to capitalize on the then burgeoning trend of gory horror movies. It was basically a Dracula-like figure with a black cloak. The body underneath was a plastic tube with a skull for a head. The idea was, you were supposed to use any of a series of clear plastic molds to make a creepy monster head out of green play-doh, which fit over the skull, and then load the hollow body of the figure with red play-doh. The arms were then pushed down causing the red play-doh to be pumped out of the eyes and mouth of the monster head, causing it to ''explode'' in a gruesome spectacle which delighted kids and grossed out adults. Well, after doing my best to justify to my Mom why I needed this thing, she flatly refused on the grounds that ''They shouldn't even be making toys like that.'' Years later when I was an adult, I started collecting toys. I was at a toy show, and just so happened to see a Count Creepy head in a sealed box sitting on a shelf behind an old guys table. I'd been looking for this thing for ages, and I was almost too disheartened to ask him what he wanted for it because I thought it would be too expensive. The guy said ''I think I had $10 marked on that.'' He went to get it down off the shelf and said ''Yeah it's ten dollars.'' I couldn't believe my ears. All I could mutter was ''That's fair, yeah I'll take it.'' This was in 2008. That was the best deal on a vintage toy I ever had.

The Five Winders advert is the most 1980s thing I've ever seen. Mind blowing! Years ago, I bought a book about how to survive a nuclear war for 1p off Amazonian (Postage £2.50). Inside was a map of the UK which showed Spaghetti Junction as the most likely target for a missile strike. Being from the Midlands, it turns out I was in the fallout zone which was absolutely terrifying. I wasn't too sure I'd got a good bargain at all after that. 👍

LOL, I was told exactly the same thing growing up with what was then 'British Aerospace' in my town, I wasn't quite in the instantaneous vapourisation, leaving a shadow on a wall zone, but more in the burned alive area, this cheerful info is relevant to an '80's kid's experience isn't it? :)
@stephengray8374Ай бұрын
@@benstutley2904 It certainly is. Apocalyptic messaging was quite normal in the 80s. 😂 Ben, your work on Skeletor's channel is quite brilliant. 👍

You definitely know it was a bargain just for the fact that you remember it. So many items in our collection we pick up without any fanfare or too many memories associated with them. But occasionally, there's that memorable item that you scored for a heck of a deal, that you'll never forget. Collecting might be more special if each of the purchases we made had that extra meaning, but those amazing deals don't come around that often. I especially appreciate scoring a eBay auction win for well below what I was willing (& often expecting) to pay. Very satisfying. Thanks for sharing your top five memorable bargain pickups Dean (I especially love that Enterprise, so minty & white 🤯). These were all excellent & even better that you got them for a "steal".

99 cents for a Corgi Juniors Wonder Woman car! In original packaging! Yeah that’s a bargain for sure 😃 The 8 year old in me needs one of those 5 winders, I’ve never heard of them before. Great video 👍😀

A testament to why you should never dismiss an auction. A guy I know got this doctor who wooden cyberman Lego figure, which only 50 were ever made, for £18, and it was in a lot with 4 other figures. Bargains are always out there.
