I can't underestimate how important cassettes were to my upbringing. Interestingly, most of ours contained homemade dubbings of other people's albums. We infrequently purchased cassettes of official albums.

My best cassette? On a schooltrip to London 1978 I bought Queen's All That Jazz. Still fantastic music.

We used to make our own song line-ups on compact cassettes from LP's so they would be portable. Also we used to dictate on them instead of writing letters and then mail the recorded cassettes back and forth to each other.

“Frampton Comes Alive” is the first record that sold 1 million cassettes in the U.S. I find it very hard to believe that Peter Frampton’s album is not in the top 5 cassettes sold in the US.

I was so excited to get a CD player for my 12th birthday... I never went back to tapes after that.
