Thanks Tony. Tourism and Instagram have turned once-traditional communities into stage sets, where authenticity is sacrificed for "likes" and souvenirs. In 30 years of travel, my fondest memories aren’t from rushing through a 'must-see' list but from slowing down, sharing meals, and living the rhythm of the local culture. Real connections never make it to postcards-but they stay with you forever.

Indeed, Instagram has been a game changer. Some (let's not quantify how many) people travel now to get their photo taken for the social networks.

Great video, Tony! It was worth the wait. Your aerial view maps showing the locations of the bars/restaurants are most helpful for planning an outing. My only trip to San Sebastián involved pintxo places in Parte Vieja and they were delicious and reasonably priced in 2022. I’m curious to try the Gros area next time. Yes, tourists worldwide are flocking to Spain (and Portugal), but hopefully my favorite cities will endure and adapt and continue to welcome visitors wishing to taste their specialties. I will save screen shots of your video to guide my next adventure in San Sebastián to allow me to experience more Spanish delicacies!

Thank you, Ralph. In 2022 Spain received 71 million tourists. The projection for 2024 is 95 million, it's a whole new game. Have a great trip whenever you go!

I saw you in San Sebastian in September!

We met several followers of the channel on that trip, where exactly did we meet you?

I was going to plan a trip to San Sebastián in July 2025 but after watching the video, I feel like I should go somewhere else. I prefer going to places where you really get to experience the local culture/cuisine and see more local people than tourists.

We know the feeling. There are voices in the tourism sector that claim there shouldn't be a limit to the number of visitors arriving in Spain. We think otherwise. Spain received 83 million tourists before the pandemic, and that was a whole lot. The projection for 2024 is 95 million. It is absurd. Your problem is that the situation we describe here is pretty much the same all throughout the most visited cities in Spain.

It is a shame that Spain is suffering from over tourism. I have been to Spain a few times, but have yet to see the major cities. We always seem to spend time in Axarquía and truly enjoy it. My hubby does want to go to San Sebastián. Is tourism a problem all year or are there peak seasons?

Hi, the problems are pretty much found throughout the year.
