my wife and i got engaged at bahia honda! Also, when i was a kid, about a week before hurricane Andrew hit, my family was the first to make contact with a family of about 12 cuban refugees that had arrived there on a home made raft a little before daybreak. it was quite an experience! The coastguard brought their raft into that marina once most of the excitement was settling down...

Enjoying your videos. Ironically we were in Newfound Harbor the same night as you. We were on a Beneteau Swift Trawler and you can see us anchored in the background at 1:22. Newfound Harbor is one of our favorites.

Hi guys. Well, you guys inspired me to get a boat. She’s a oldie. 1975 Albin 25.. she needs some lovins and a little rubbing…. I’m not quite ready for my loop adventure. But It won’t be too much longer.

Spent the last two winters living-aboard our sailboat at Bahia Honda. The State park has a program that in exchange for 24hours/week of volunteer work we got a tie up with power and water for three months in the NOOA basin adjacent to the main marina. We took the position during the COVID winter and liked the place so much we retuned this winter.

Smart to have hand signals sorted out for anchoring. As for beam seas sometimes you just have to tack/zigzag to get a comfortable ride by changing you angle to the seas. I think you mentioned this in a prior video. If not we'll that's my tip for the day🙂

Thanks for the tip Jan!

As a kid growing up in South Florida, we camped at Bahia Honda every summer. Great place! I have wanted to revisit by boat but the stated controlling depth is 3.5ft which would be too shallow. What did you see when you were there ?
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Oh neat! We saw plenty, I think towards low tide we saw atleast 5? We draw 3.5, and I asked if 4 would clear and the office said it would 😁

Best marina on the East Coast is in Oriental North Carolina, River Dunes Marina. The swimming pool, hot tubs, and the steam showers are just a few reasons you need to stop. We always stop on our way back to SC to rest and enjoy all of their amenities.
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Interesting - never heard of this one. Might have to check it out... its hard to pass up the free docks in Oriental though haha
@TLee-kt5ff2 жыл бұрын
@@SchoandJo yeah free is good, but if you are in the area and you need to do laundry, provision, and just relax for a few days this place is like a resort. only 2.25 ft.

A suggestion for all your stops to come: Include an image of the location(s) your video is presenting. Always helps to have a pic and offers a geographic context for the viewer. That's doubly true when the direction of anticipated weather is mentioned in the story.

Not that it's real important but Bahia Hinda is pronounced BA HEE YA HONDA. I'm old enough to remember driving south over the old bridge in a motor home and swapping side view mirrors with another RV headed north!
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Sweet thanks for the info Fred! That's crazy that you were on the other bridge, can't imaging how tight it would have been with two RVs!
