I have to agree, The Lamb is an absolute stonker of an album. If it had Supper’s Ready on it, I would play it daily. Btw The Lamb Live is a gorgeous listen as well. Peter Gabriel is on top of his game here and Hackett’s guitar tone is just SO good. I’ve put all of these albums in a playlist I will have on repeat for the next few months.

Trilogy is an amazing album. It was so hard to pick what I picked. Appreciate the comment.

IMO the best "prog" lp of the 70s is a little known lp by David Sancious and Tone; "True Stories" . While other groups display attempted virtuosity, Sancious and Tone smoke it. Also, Oldfield's best , again IMO AND the number 2 "prog" lp was "Incantations". People who focus on big sellers are missing out! ( you might also give a listen to "The MAthmaticians Air Display by Pekka Pohjola)

Starless and Bible Black is for most part a live album. Spontaneous improvisations. Hard dissonant music. Maybe not for newcomers. They should start with Court which is more accessible for sure.

Really good video Pat. A little constructive criticism if I may. There was an accessible use of the word ‘unbelievable’ which I agree so many of these albums are but try to vary it a bit. I have to do the same on my channel as I keep using the word really so I know where you come from. I have subbed and look forward to more from you as your style is very good. All the best. Dave✅✅

I really appreciate that. Yes I do use that word too much. Thanks for the sub. Learning all the time.

Can't disagree with any of these selections. If it was a longer video, I'd expect to see some of the more rare entries like Fuchsia or perhaps Hawkwind's prog era. Interestingly, all of these bands kind of fit into a certain strain of prog that leans into concept albums with prominent keyboards and long guitar solos. But there is also prog rock that completely defies those musical conventions that developed during the late sixties and seventies. Bands like Steely Dan and Supertramp. I think the closest representative in this list for that type of left field prog was probably Jethro Tull or Mike Oldfield. Come to think of it, Frank Zappa too. I guess you really did cover all the bases. Listing the top prog rock albums of all time is supremely difficult. But I figure that as long as Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes and Genesis make the cut, the list is likely legit, but also always doomed to be incomplete.

Extremely difficult to pick in the first place. A lot of bands I didn't mention. Thanks for your detailed comment. Excellent.

A very strange take on what's prog indeed! Fundamentally British and of a certain time, gone by end of 74.
@CloseToTheEdge-Prog3 ай бұрын
Maybe so, but gone by the end of 74, I don't think so, the best is probably gone by 74, but you have Free Hand by Gentle Giant in 75, Going For The One by Yes in 77 and A Trick Of A Tail from Genesis in 76. We have never reached the heights of the early 70s and that is true. Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it.
