Bravo on the RedBull wishbone breakdown! That was Mi6 level investigation. I definitely agree that it’s going to help a lot with rear downforce they’re basically turning the wishbone into a wing in letting a larger mass of air uninterrupted enter that whole suspension system. They’re going to modify this very little and get major gains over the first half of the year.

@@Bahamuttiamat "Stealing ideas" has always been in the DNA of F1 and no engineer worth his salt has ever denied that you adapt other teams' ideas as soon as you can if they work (and work for your car philosophy). So, yes, in this instance it may have been a Merc idea but that's besides the point.
@SupremeUnicorn3 жыл бұрын
@@AntiVaganza Not sure how it is beside the point since it’s a copy of last year Merc innovation. copying ideas of other teams is part of F1 and have always been. but how can another team outcompete merc if they keep trying to replicate their ideas with a 2 year delay??? while mercedes Innovate, same as Alpine and McLaren we keep seing pink merc, green merc and blue merc.
@AntiVaganza3 жыл бұрын
@@SupremeUnicorn It was the Merc part of the argument that was besides the point. I read the comment, perhaps wrongly, as coming from a fan and having the tone of Merc is so good RB has to copy it and that's uncool. As said, maybe I read it wrong. Besides that, neither you or I are equipped with the technological skills to judge whether RB should have copied it earlier, should not have copied it or whether it is a straight copy at all - or whether it is improved from Merc's. Basically, while the general idea looks the same, I am not sure we have enough info or knowledge to say it is a replicate. The two cars feature vastly different design philosophies so what may work on the Merc may not work - or may even work better - on a RB. Personally, I am sure that even though they look the same on the surface, there are many intricasies in which a general idea can be tailor made to your own car. You also argue that you can't overtake Merc by simply copying. I agree but you seem to gloss over the fact that the RB and Merc are in their basic nature possibly the two most different cars on the grid - and stealing a general idea for a rear suspension does not make the RB a Merc clone.

The real tech secrets, and advancements are in the electric motors which have a distinctive sound like a Formula E car. Most notably has been Redbull. There may be a engine development freeze but I doubt there is anything prohibiting the upgrading of electric motors, I would be more intrigued with a video illustrating each teams approach to this. Teams like Mercedes do not rely on things like anti-lag because their MGU-H and hybrid power delivery is top notch, where as Honda has traditionally relied heavily on anti-lag since 2014, it seems to have changed this year.
