Marshmello and the Chainsmokers have created the worst trend in music in the latter half of the decade: try to build to something, limp drum fill, and 3 note synth line. ADDENDUM: marshmello is also worse because he has no personality musically and overcompensates by acting like a cartoon character. Man, even though Todd's content has a distinct style that he's never exactly fallen out of, it's still apparent that he's changed a lot over the last decade. He seems so much more eloquent and unauthoritative than he was when he started, and I think that's always been what I liked about his stuff. It feels like I want to watch him not because I want him to rip a song to shreds, but because I'm legitimately interested in hearing him talk about this sort of stuff, I really do strive for that kind of charm and strange charisma one day. Whatever happens, here's to a fruitful decade.

Negativity is fine if it isn't overboard. Todd isn't because he always compares bad songs to ones he does in fact like, and he always expresses a hope that current music will improve. But there's a lot of KZbinrs out there who are just full of so much bile. You could make counterarguments: Constant negativity also becomes boring. Criticism is valid but it's obvious some people just want to insult something or make it a vessel to spout their personal views. Constant, harsh criticism dissuades up and coming creators from breaking into the scene and makes them feel like if they aren't perfect then there's no point. Balance is key for everything.

The only new Jonas songs I really like are "Sucker" and "Hesitate"(which is one of those love songs you can tell was written by someone actually in love), but I am loving the Jonas Brothers reunion because it feels like they actually want healthier relationships with each other and not just a cash grab the way reunions usually do(the talk the brothers have on the Chasing Happiness documentary is way too raw not to be real). @@chok3061 speaking of Chainsmokers, when I first heard Selfie (quoting Todd with Katy Perry) I vowed to hate them forever, but then i heard Roses and saw the potential they had. I can't stand that drop. The many remixes I've heard like the Illineum remix are way better). This is coming from someone who really liked Closer and recent ones like Paris and don't think they deserve as much hate as they get, but can understand why some people do.

This is a huge problem in electronic music, and vocal features are usually treated as an afterthought, which just makes it worse. 90% of the more mainstream, melody-oriented tracks (ie not big atmospheric stuff) that hold up to repeated listens, it's because they treated the song like an actual song, for a change. As a producer, this hasn't been an easy pill to swallow.
