I visited Mauthausen KZ in '73 or '74 with a survivor of the camp. At the time I was stationed at Wiley Barracks, Neu Ulm, West Germany in the U.S. ARMY. Our "Pick Up Point" Laundry on Post was operated by that survivor whose name was Wilhelm "Bill" Klichowski. Bill told us he was sent to the Concentration Camps because he "didn't go to Church on Sunday". Of course he didn't, He was born a Polish Jew. Bill organized a Bus Tour with a bunch of us GI's to visit Mauthausen and later Vienna. While we toured Mauthausen, Bill couldn't stop crying. It was an overwhelmingly sad and unforgettable day for all of us. Bill told us about the "Parachutists" and I think he also said the unfortunate inmates were called "Butterflies" by the sadistic Camp Guards. By taking us American Soldiers to Mauthausen KZ, Bill "bore his testimony" to the truth of the Holocaust. As Bill Klichowski bore witness 50 years ago, I too now BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH OF THE HOLOCAUST. I know it is true, because I heard it firsthand at Mauthausen from my friend Wilhelm "Bill" Klichowski.

30 years ago i visited mauthausen with school. i walked the stairs as a young teenager. it was absolutly horrible and exhausting. these are not normal stairs. and i was well fed and had no heavy stones to carry up like the prisoners. it's a shame, that something like that happened. and unfortunately humans don't learn from their mistakes..

I do not dispute the fact that large numbers of jews were deported to concentration camps and ghettos, or that many jews died or were killed during the Second World War. But there's considerable evidence to show that there was no German program to exterminate Europe’s jews, that numerous claims of mass killings in “gas chambers” are false, and that the estimate of six million jewish wartime dead is an irresponsible exaggeration.

My grandfather was an American soldier in Europe and we know he was present at the liberation of one of the major camps. He told my grandmother about it when he returned home, and then never spoke about it again. I asked my grandmother once why he wouldn’t talk about it and she said “he had to tell someone so he did talk to me about it, but swore he would never say it out loud again. What he saw there broke his soul in sorrow, and I don’t think he ever wants to relive it again”. Let us never forget these atrocities-those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Thank you for telling your family experiences. My grandparents of both sides escaped genocides before and during world war I. Most all family members were exterminated. I understand why my one grandfather was so brutal. My parents were definitely affected by their parents experiences. For my grandparents or my parents, there was no counseling to help them deal with the atrocities and the aftermath. I am second generation born in America. My father spent 4 years in combat in the Korean war. I was fortunate thst although my parents had problems and my dad with seeing war atrocities, they weren't substance users. I have never seen this before! It's amazing, yet sad to see at the same time. What's amazing about it is how it has stood the tests of time and its story lives on. But what's sad is the many lives that where lost there and all the pain and suffering those who were present at the time had to endure. But for the few who came out the other end alive and got to tell their stories, is the most amazing part of it all! R.I.P. To all those who lost their lives in the Holocaust. Whether it be Jew, Nazi, American, Japanese, Italian, etc. Everyone deserves to have their story told and not be forgotten!

@@Ujuani68 The point about it is to continue telling their stories so the world doesn't forget what happened. That way we can try to prevent something like the Holocaust from ever happening again. If we forget stories about even the Nazis, we'd be loosing a lot of information about the Holocaust and what actually happened during that time. The Nazis know a lot about the inner workings of the Holocaust and WW2. Imagine what would happen if that information was lost to time.

The Nazis destroyed some of the evidence of their atrocities, even though they didn't destroy everything. That's why some of their crimes may remain unknown. But the best solution is to keep the memories of their known atrocities alive. There is a new generations that still need to be educated on what happened during those horrible times. That image of the prisoners toiling up the Stairs of Death is a vision of hell, of Dante's Inferno. The SS had a horrible adage that they would repeat in the camps: "No weather is bad enough for a Jew to work in". I received a taste of that evil right here in my country. When I was just 13 years old, a so-called dentist called my house and offered a free teeth cleaning. When my mother took me to the appointment, I was strapped to a chair, and, one by one, each one of my top teeth were drilled out. The evil guy who had black curly hair and said he was the so-called dentist's assistant took a brace, propped open my mouth, and he slowly drilled out all of my front teeth. I was not given anything for the pain, and the pain was so intense that it sent my mind into another world. After he finished, I was insane. I know it know. I was legally insane. I was a very small kid. I was less than five feet tall. I posted a video where I explain the experience. I wish some Jewish people would help me to trace this back and so that I can make my story public. It happened in the 1970's. I would never do anything bad to anyone.
