A guy at work had one of these and he broke the handle, so he found a piece of steel chain from a fence and replaced the handle with it for more bad-assery.

Man I love rugged/thick laptops, there's something about them that screams "I am indestructible" I got a thinkpad T430 from a friend that recycles office laptops and I fell in love with it and I wouldnt mind have one of these rugged laptops, a shame they're so expensive but older thinkpads get the job done ;)

I worked for a data sanitization center that had gov contracts. Had a ton of these roll in. I've been inside of too many of these to count! Screen changes are hell due to the waterproof adhesive. Decent machine, ill stick with my tough book however.

Dell Latitudes are simply awesome and very easy to convert into snappy daily drivers. I have a Latitude e5420 with 8 GB RAM, a Kingston A400 480GB SSD and an i5-2520m CPU. It can handle all the multitasking that I do as a student. I installed Windows Vista Business (it's time to revisit Vista before it's too late) and it runs blazing fast. Also, I love your videos. Please make one on the Latitude e5420 showing the upgrade process and a Windows Vista installation walkthrough on the SSD.

As it has an Expresscard port, you could connect it to a more modern GPU with a dock. But of course that kills not only the sealed and rugged aspect but any sort of portability...at that point an SFF PC with low profile GPU and a portable 15" monitor are just as useful.

That Crisys limitation must be a thing from EA. At one point I upgraded the GPU in my PC and when I wanted to play a game on Origin it said that it was a new device and I needed to wait 24 hours untill I can play any game on Origin that I owned.

The trackpad is poor likely because it’s a resistive instead of capacitive trackpad. Dell’s rugged laptops usually use resistive tech for touch surfaces like touchscreens and trackpads.

I've been bouncing around a theory in my head for a couple days now and so far I cannot seem to find anything that would suggest me that it wouldn't work... E6430 models used the exact same case and motherboard design/layout as their older E6420 brethren...which share theirs with the XFR... so I believe an E6430 (standard or ATG) motherboard can be installed in an E6420 XFR case. I need to find out, for science.

It has Bluetooth. It's not that thick. If you're in America, pay less than $100 for it, unless the specs are exceptional.

"does it has bluetooth?" yes, "is it really thick" Yes but not too much, if you want a more light version with the same build quality you could get a x series like x220 or x230, "how much should I pay?" not much but keep an eye on upgraded versions if you can source: A proud owner of a T430

I still use e6420, alongside with Debian, or Archix, Ubuntu. And I use it professionally, for buildings webapps and console apps, two real downsides for the laptop are that the laptop is indeed not suitable for gaming by any chance, maybe some retro gaming with RetroArch, or platformers like Terraria, And the second one is screen, it's not color precise and when I finish a webapp I need to switch to an external monitor, or to another laptop. But the coolest thing that it has cd-rom, that can be replaced for second hard or ssd drive. I'm sure this laptop will work for years and years on. And for some people maximum of 16gb of RAM might be not enough for their purposes, but it's fine by me.

It most likely had a thermal pad. Seen it in other laptops (which imo is a stupid design) :)
@AAComputersandTechnology4 жыл бұрын
That might even be why it went for sale. "Excessed for unknown thermal problems" which is fine with me because I was able to get it for cheap!
@Chriva4 жыл бұрын
Cheap is always the best :D I went on a little hunt and googled for mainboard pictures of this beast. It definitely has a pad visible in some of them :) Kinda hard to find them in local stores (at least over here, in Sweden) but they're really cheap online. Just make sure it has high heat conductivity.
@jb318424 жыл бұрын
I don't remember where now but I saw this same thing on another KZbin channel recently, where somebody wanted to replace a thermal pad with paste (better for heat conduction) but decided against it because removing the pad left behind a physical air gap that paste couldn't reliably bridge.
@sophiethecat92564 жыл бұрын
