While pulling my plants to overwinter in the greenhouse, I found quite a few meteor minnow fry despite having done a really thorough sweep. They must have hatched since I pulled the others as they are super teeny. What tough fish!! leave my White cloud outside perennially. They survive below 50 although mine rarely breed. and I think Dragonfly nymphs eat them. The mountain they come from is really cold so I think they can survive above freezing.

Bonus points for using the word aestivate. The papyrus will probably survive the winter in the greenhouse but let it go quite dry (barely damp). So long as they are not frozen through for long periods, they will come back.

Great CAUTION regarding the possibility of transferring parasites from outside tubs into our fish rooms! I found two tiny leeches in my QT tank with the gold whiteclouds I brought in. Only had a dusting of tan sand in that tank so it was easy to find them when doing a water change. Glad I didn't have dark substrate in there! I carefully moved the fish to another QT tank, cleared the leechy tank then nuked it with a lot of levamisole! Didn't see any more than the two original leeches, but...

We had an unexpected temp drop to 36 degrees in TN a couple weeks ago. I wasn't home to move in guppies I had out in a couple tubs. About 50% of the guppies survived... many more females than males survived. But even more shocking was that there was absolutely NO loss of Neo shrimp (wild coloration) that I had relocated out there as a test. And were breeding because there were reds and oranges I brought in, yet had only moved wild color types out.

Chopping back helps prevent bug issues on the leaves, many bug lay “in” leaves and the babies hatch in the spring and eat at the new soft plant growth, that’s why I chop my garden back each late fall, to prevent more bugs come spring. Those are some tuff White clouds! Love the Channel! !

so in the spring, you will take the foliage out of the bags and they will grow roots, and you'll take the roots out of the greenhouse, and they'll grow foliage? wild.

Your video was serendipity - I went outside to dump an excess of water lettuce I had in the veggie garden and decided to take a peek in my already half emptied tub. I have about 20 white cloud fry I pulled a few weeks ago and, like you, thought I had them all, but there was one tiny, little fry left! It is cold here in Boston as well. It's acclimating to the indoors right now and I'll have to raise it on its own as it's much tinier than the ones I brought in earlier. Raccoons got my white clouds last year, so this is my first time successfully breeding outdoors and I'm hooked!

I guessed right! Sort of hard not to really, re the WCs. But, we even had it get to 36 last week I think. Hardy little dudes. Sort of sad to see the tubs all empty of fish and shrimp and full of half dead plants, it just went so quickly. Ahhh another winter. We can't all be lucky enough to have a cool canopy of trees covering a secret hideaway just waiting for a bonfire...big sigh. So, I guess my best laid plans of restocking a blue tank will have to wait since there weren't many this year. Ah well. them's the breaks. Another summer tubbing season come and gone. It was a great one this year with all the videos! And glad you found more fish!

Same here, my guppies are still outside here in Cali. They are still thriving because it has been such a hot year. I will tear down the tubs soon and carefully go through, I will be donating them to a local pet store prior to my moving. These fish are adaptive and super tough, and I've learned do not ever assume to know the ability and strength of creatures to thrive even in more extreme circumstances.

Summer lovin! Had me a blast! Summer lovin , Wish it could last! In response to the white clouds how do you feel about mosquito fish? For fish in summer tubs I’ve found in AZ these guys eliminate mosquito larva, dragon fly nymphs and damselfly nymphs. I can’t even keep these things with my shrimp anymore! These guys eat anything that move when they’re hungry. Ps , you should look into microgreens for the winter . I think because you like growing plants in general you might find this to be a nice winter hobby to accompany your already crazy lifestyle lol. Happy wintering!

I haven't done anything with my 110 gallon tub yet, other than bring a dwarf papyrus inside to overwinter. (I'm in zone 6a.)The other plants are cold hardy iris and water lilies. I don't have a greenhouse, garage, or cold basement to stick them in, so I have been contemplating sinking the pots to the bottom of the tub and running a stock tank de-icer this winter - what is your opinion on this method? My other option is to drain the tub, turn it over, and stick the plants underneath, hoping for the best. Love the minnows! They are certainly hardy little things, I'm thinking I'll try them in my tub next year.
