Over 5 million people travelled from across the country and around the world to see the installation of 888,246 ceramic poppies at the Tower of London. The commemorative artwork, by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, caught the nation’s imagination and acted as a place of pilgrimage for millions of people to reflect on the First World War, 100 years since its outbreak in 1914.

Music: Silent Night by Timbre. Silent Night was sung simultaneously in French, English and German by troops during the Christmas Truce of 1914 during the First World War, as it was one carol that soldiers on both sides of the front line knew.

I am proud to say that one of those poppies is in my house, in memory of my Great Uncle Frank, died 08/04/1917 and buried in Péronne, France. RIP you are not forgotten. When you go Home, tell them of us and say, For your Tomorrow, we gave our Today” John Maxwell Edmunds 1916

This is a memorial to our war dead. It stands for each individual life lost, no matter the person, no matter the politics behind the war. It was made out of respect for their sacrifice. Take your 'propaganda' comments and shove them.

I too planted poppies. Seeing the crowds arriving pre-dawn was just astonishing and moving.

When you hear "numbers" it really doesn't fully compute in your brain, but when you see each individual poppy massed into that huge visual sea of lives lost, it then finally hits home what 888,246 really means.

Oh so wonderful. The blood that was spilt, displayed, from sea to shining sea. so many lives lost and we must remember them. All the allies together and the conclusion,...a loss for each family, ..or an injured man returning to arms full of love, with losses of his own. How lest we forget. Thank you

Lovely display that conveys a strong emotional message. I got a kick hearing the man in the button suit (1:29) -- as he goes on and on it becomes very difficult to understand what he is saying. What accent is that?

Noe Berengena They're known as Pearlies because of the pearl buttons and they are speaking Cockney which is rhyming slang. Hope this helps

@@sheilaghbrosky He is a Cockney King . Only certain cockney families can wear the pearl suits . NOT ALL .He has a cockney accent but is NOT speaking rhyming slang . It is just a cockney accent speaking ordinary English .

I was so sad I couldn't even purchase a poppy in honour for my grandad and his brother who died in the war. I went to visit the spectacular but instead was defeated by foreigners pushing and shoving all being able to purchase these rare ceramic rose... all but the British! All I wanted was to admire the show but instead it was just a depressing day for me after all the travel i did to get there I sometimes had to think if I was in England at all. VOTE LEAVE!

Ww1 should.never had happened all bec an arch duke called ferdinand was assassinated in europe some where.upper class snobbs hierarchy of europe caused a war where ordinary young lives were butchered...while they sat back and gave the orders...terrible war in which if you went mad or awol you were shot.whilst the upper class royals of european royal families at the time were pulling the shots .this what makes.me sick disgusted about ww1.fought for the upper class rich.by the poor ordinary working class.

It's amazing how little young people actually get about life. Care you have a remembrance for all the deaths that have fought to to keep England safe and to hear a young person bring up brexit for absolutely no reason is astounding. how many young people are actually racist and ignorant ?
