If you live in Lapland, you likely have a sauna. Pretty much everybody has a sauna in the northernmost region of Finland. People build their homes around them. And why not? It’s freaking cold up there, and saunas are warm, cozy and relaxing. We venture to Lapland to explore the hottest sauna scene in the world.

Even as a teenager, like half of the parties involved a sauna, that was the main question "can we go to sauna as well" and then only maybe "is there beerpong?"etc. I think the world is a really rich and diverse place and every region has it's own nuances but Id export that sauna-culture to everywhere if possible.

@I Like 11-Hydroxy-THC! Casual saunas are pretty cheap. The only thing that needs the be good is the "kiuas" sorry i dont no the english name for that but kiuas is the thing you throw water on that the steam comes. If you dont have a good kiuas the sauna is not gonna be relaxing just hot. I use the traditional sauna so its a wood sauna. You need to warm the kiuas with wood but they have really good steams

It's not just Lapland, where saunas are used as signs of hospitality. It's the whole of Finland where that's the custom. - You are stuffy and weary after traveling: relax in the sauna and take a wash, take a drink and snack after it. Full stomach is not a good idea before the sauna, because you will be panting a bit in the heat and steam. You'll come out warm like after a jogging, plus you're also clean after the sauna. You sweated the dirt out deep within the skin, and washed. You have a soft baby skin, and radiating warmth starting from your bones. And the head has the peace hormones running all through (was it serotonin) so you're floating in a mediative mood - and present in a calm joy. Welcome to sauna,

Dates back hundreds of years and in a bit more modern times like Finns who moved or settled to North America would build a sauna first which would serve as a "headquarter", a place where you could clean everything, cook and be warm obviously. Still a thing, I have a cottage that's two rooms, bedroom/changing room(saunakamari) and the sauna.
