The toxicity stems mainly from a territorial dispute. There would be absolutely no issues if both sports had their own dedicated spaces without encroaching on the other.

I've played tennis for many years, and started playing pickleball last year. Let's be perfectly honest... tennis is a real sport, one that requires a variety of challenging skill sets (and hard work to develop those skills). Pickleball is a fun children's game, which is a fact... a game that was developed decades ago by people who wanted to keep their children entertained and occupied. For older people w/ limited physical movement and mobility, it's perfectly understandable that they would gravitate towards pickleball (which is fun, social and provides a decent physical workout). However, if you're younger with full mobility, you should pick-up a damn tennis racquet!!! Younger generational cohorts (Millennials and Gen Zers) prefer pickleball because its barrier to entry is low, and it's an easy game - one that does not require much work or skill (it suits their underachieving mindset and lazy work ethic perfectly).

This is such a fucking boomer comment. Maybe us young underachievers don’t have the idle time to dash around on the tennis court because we face more difficult social and economic conditions than the older generations who grew up in the most economically prosperous period of human history. All at the same time managing to shirk responsibility and destroy society for those who came after them. It’s our job to pick up the pieces and try to rebuild this minagery you “gave” to us. I hope one day my children will be able to dedicate their time to tennis but that time is yet to be seen.

The toxicity really just comes down to turf. I'd care less about Pickleball but unfortunately they decided to build a sport that uses tennis courts. Several times during the start of the pandemic, couldn't get tennis courts due to a large flock of pickelballers camping out on the local courts. I wish they had figured a way to make it a driveway sport to prevent the turf war.. Ironically, if tennis numbers start to dwindle again, we might need pickle ball to keep the courts around--indoor and outdoor. Yes, I think it is less athletically demanding than tennis at the low and intermediate levels but like any sport, higher levels will still have intensity. I imagine it is fun to play, but I've tried to watch some professional matches and I just don't get it.

I really like the idea of going some early morning and putting up several make shift ping pong tables smack dab in the middle of a converted pickleball court and see the reaction to this intrusion. Pickleball, like a variety of racket skill sports can be fun, competitive and inspiring when good players play. HOWEVER, pickleball does not belong when it puts in lines and competes with players wanting to use tennis courts.

I can say in my area, Kansas City, MO pickleball is growing rapidly. In fact, Chicken and Pickle, a sort of dine and play facility even was able to have Jack Sock come down for an event recently (He went to high school in Kansas). It's cool to see them bring in a popular tennis player, though sad that there's nothing remotely on the scale of this restaurant that supports tennis in my area. I really don't mind the sport and have played a couple of times and have enjoyed it. My only complaint is that in some areas they are actually tearing down tennis courts and making brand new pickleball courts in their place. Though I do understand this as it seems there are quite a few more pickleball players in my area, so demand is high, but it hurts a bit to see my favorite sport slowly disappear. Hopefully they can find a sort of equilibrium and coexist.

I think Pickleball is like a drug. Instant gratification instead of delayed gratification like tennis. That is why I don’t like it (also them taking tennis courts). You can grab a pickleball racquet and a whiffle ball and easily learn it. It take so little skill compared to tennis. Tennis can take years to get good, and it takes work and dedication to get the skills needed to play competitively in tennis. Because pickleball is so easy to master, and most people picking it up do not play tennis, they don’t understand the hard work that we have put into it and can sometimes become quite snobby. Im not ignoring that tennis has snobs too, but if more pickleball players knew how hard it is to play tennis and how much us tennis players work, I think we would all get along better.
@adamheath4599
@adamheath4599 5 ай бұрын
You’re speaking for a myopic point of view. Pickleball, like any of those racket sports is not easy to master by any stretch of the imagination. It may be more forgiving and easier to hit certain shots, but the inverse of that, is because everyone plays at the net you have smaller margins to work with than in tennis.

I enjoy all equally (different challenges) but the bottom line is that out of the 3 it is MUCH easier to get decent / good in pickleball than tennis or badminton. But they're only Half right: they're ASSES. If you're SoOo GOOD, why don't you try Tennis?? Oh, wait -- Because it's HARD and Those Seniors that have played Tennis for awhile would Chew You UP. Leave it for the seniors or Play Nice! I will admit that the times I've played, it Can be fun, but Only if you take it for what it is: an EASY "activity" where jawing-it-up with one another Should be Welcomed. Pickleball culture has changed … it is now toxic AF. Puckleball equipment is actually more expensive than tennis equipment. Also pickleball equipment quality makes much more of a difference than tennis equipment. You simply cannot win with low end pickleball equipment where I have seen many times in tennis where someone with a cheaper racket beat a player with tighter strings/ better racket. Pickleball is also more competitive than tennis. Pickleballers get SUPER TOXIC and cheat FREQUENTLY on serves…. Essentially slamming forehands above the waist at the abdomen. You simply can’t cheat on a tennis serve. And who wants to be that person constantly calling out the other team for cheating. Like I said, Pickleball has become toxic.. pickle ball has also turned into a massive money grab where people are constantly throwing little tournaments and charging huge entry fees while also providing very little value in return. The last time I went and played Pickleball, I literally caught people lying, cheating, and stealing. You better mark your pickle balls with a pen because my God I’ve never seen so many people ready to steal balls 🤦‍♂️. This type of stuff simply doesn’t happen in the game of tennis. The idea that you have to have money to play tennis is ridiculous. I’ve probably spent a grand total of $100 in my entire 25 year playing career of tennis and only lost 1 time. Self taught. There is a lot of false information in this video . a lot of assumptions and unreliable data. Tennis will always be king 👑

Pickleball is good for older folks. My friend, who is about 20+ years my senior, beat top 10 tennis players in the world when in his prime. He cannot move well in his late 70s and plays pickleball. I'm cool with pickleball, just not all the tennis courts going away. Also, I don't like extra lines on the courts. Also, a lot of people do like pickleball. I played it once and am used to moving and running to the degree that I ran into the fence a couple of times and also killed my elbow, hitting the fence on my BH follow through. LOL

It is the Gen Z people who have made pickleball culture toxic. The boomers are fun to play with. Gen Z comes to the courts ready to lie, cheat, and steal. All while being little know it all jerks (who don’t know anything about anything 😂) all I can say is mark your balls because Gen Z will steal them on the court or claim that they belong to them. Also watch Gen Z players closely because they cheat all the time on serves and essentially slam forehands at the abdomen level. And boy oh boy do they hate being called out on it. You could take a video and show them clearly cheating and they will still deny it.. They will also lie and cut ahead in line when you’re waiting to play a match. Seriously this happens all the time and it’s only Gen Z. I mainly a tennis player but I do enjoy Pickleball. I make a point to only play Pickleball in the afternoon time when the order people who are really cool are out playing. do not ever play Pickleball in the evenings during the weekdays because that’s when all of the Gen Z people come out wreaking havoc

Pickleball is to Tennis as Checkers is to Chess. One is a child’s game the other is a game of intellect and skill. Like any child’s game one is easy to learn and play, the other takes time, practice, and hard work to develop your skills. One is fun to play occasionally, the other is a game of beauty and skill, and is far more rewarding.

The town where I live did a nice balance in keeping enough tennis courts available for only tennis and making enough pickleball courts to meet demand. Outdoor volleyball courts are a prime target to convert to pickleball. And our local rec center made 8 dedicated pickleball courts with built-in nets. It's gets a LOT of players. And they did not touch the main park which has dedicated tennis courts, they kept that strictly for tennis.

I would say the only big negative feeling i have against pickleballers is they always bring cranks and crank the tennis nets down but dont put them back up. I had to end up purchasing a crank just to put them back. If you use something put it back the way you found it.
@afterthesmash
@afterthesmash 2 жыл бұрын
After you bought your cranks, to change them for tennis when you find the nets set for pickleball, have you even put them back "the way you found them" after playing tennis? Somehow I highly doubt this. In computer science, the norm is to leave things as you last used them, so that you don't end up unnecessarily changing things twice between two instances of the same use. What you _really_ want is for tennis to be the incumbent permanent default, so that tennis players can spend all their money on fresh balls, rather than owning their own cranks (a one-time purchase which barely dents your fresh ball money fund, I'm sure). Where you dropped the stitch was the phrase "crank the tennis nets down". After they paint a second set of lines, and put a set of cranks on the net posts, they aren't "tennis nets" any longer; they are now mixed-use tennis _and_ pickleball nets, and the computer science algorithm is probably the best one. We have a mixed-use court here near where I live with an official sign indicating that tennis players have priority, such that I would call this a tennis net with benefits. But it's not adjustable. You can use the PB lines, but you're stuck with the high net. If it was adjustable, this one I would crank back up, because it is still a tennis net, first of all, based on prominent signage, and not just incumbent narcissism.

As a regular tennis player, I can say tennis experienced a huge spike in participation during the pandemic. It is a Covid-friendly sport: distanced, outdoors, cardio exercise. Pickelball threatens my club's tennis facility. There are members who want to play it and we don't have a pickelball area -- so they start looking at the 10 courts we have. To them I say, I hate pickelball. I have no interest in playing it. It's a game that sounds like it should be played at picnics and day camps. It's ping pong/wiffle ball and deck tennis rolled up into one stupid game that should be played at a beach park by the paddleball courts. Leave tennis players alone with your idiotic game.

Pickleball folks scream and yell when I use a court for 1.5 hours for tennis saying I'm hogging the court. No, that's how long tennis takes. Sorry if me playing the appropriate amount of time on the appropriate court for my sport intrudes on your idea of how long a game takes. Pickleball players know no tennis decorum. They walk right onto courts in the middle of tennis points or at the club, walk inside of the court across 5 courts instead of walking behind the curtain. If these things could be resolved through some kind of PSA, I wouldn't mind pickleball players as much. I will still hate hearing the whiffle ball sounds all the time when I'm playing on the court next to them but I can manage that. Best option is for pickleballers and tennis players is to have more temp pickleball courts on a basketball court. They can fit 3 whole pickleball courts on one basketball court, there and no reason to waste an entire tennis court for their small game. It's almost like playing ping pong on an entire tennis court, really no reason to waste so much room. Just because the sport has similar shaped balls doesn't mean that tennis courts have much to do with it - well, any more than badminton (racquets) or ping pong (plastic balls) does.

Pickleball will be just like bocce ball. Cornhole and horse shoes. All were incredibly popular and cities build courts and parks around them. But go by any park and virtually no one is playing them. Every beach and bar had multiple cornhole boards, but no so much anymore. Yes cornhole is still here but not like it was. The problem is pickleball isn't the fastest growing sport in America. People who are polled or asked if they play pickleball doesn't paint an honest picture. The vast majority will have played it, but don't regularly play it enough to be considered "players". My wife has played tennis 3 times and golf once in her life, but if asked if she played both she could answer yes and be counted as part of both sports even though she isn't. Soccer and Lacrosse are the fastest growing sports in America and this is backed be the HSAA and NCAA. Pickleball played by those 8 or more times per year are over 65 years old . The average age of those that play pickleball is 38. Then there's all the insane leagues and federations arguing over... everything. It will implode on itself.

Maybe tennis players should try taking over dedicated peckerball courts and playing it with tennis rackets. I think it would be a blast smashing those plastic wiffleballs at the opponent just like we do in tennis. When peckerball players start trying to pick up overheads being pummeled at them at 120mph and are successful, tennis players will still say stay the hell off our courts. Try it next time you see some tickleballs players trying to use a tennis court to play their little ping pong match. Step up and crush their little toy plastic ball with your RF97 and watch em run off to try and find an actual peckerball court.

I play mostly tennis and some pickleball here and there and don't get me wrong pickleball is a really fun sport and I definitely see why it's super appealing to a lot of people. Definitely happy to see such a rapid growth from the sport but a part of me is pretty sad seeing my local outdoor tennis courts being torn down in order to be converted to dedicated pickleball courts.

Hey Mark, interesting video, it'll be cool to see how you do. I'm in the camp where I don't like pickleball, the sound is annoying and I ended up moving clubs away from it.

The treachery! Sell out! Unsubscribe!...... Seriously, tennis is awesome but I love all sports! Haven't tried pickle ball but would for sure give it a go. Got a feeling I would pick it up quickly given how much I have played tennis. Looking forward to seeing how you get on in the tournaments! I haven't seen any hate for it in the UK yet but that may change if they take the limited indoor courts away for it!

I think the biggest thing that can cause some animosity is that due to the lower barrier to entry, a number of casual and core pickleball players of all ages are having some of their first tastes of competition and have not had the opportunities to experience some of that environment's culture. Competitive Pickleball players at least in this area are generally more prone to poor attitudes and rule bending (or legitimate ignorance potentially due to the changes that occur almost annually) than their tennis counterparts, but coming to the realization that they haven't built up that same mentality that most competitive tennis players have yet helped me ease off a bit. Out of curiosity, do you have a preference of Singles or Doubles for Pickleball? It's tough getting Singles to catch on around here to the point they adjusted our format to Skinny Singles (which I greatly despise haha)

Lmao your arrogance is hilarious. With all due respect, you would be lucky to score even 1 point against Zane, Tyson, or Ben (based off of your level in that vid of you playing dubs). What you just said is the equivalent of an amateur racquetball player saying you will now start to train to beat Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic. Maybe slightly less extreme, but you catch my drift. Good luck, but you have a looong way to go

To me, P’Ball is much more crude than tennis. It’s also a cheat. It’s crude because it uses a paddle, like ping-pong, instead of strings. And it’s a cheat because the court is so much smaller, and there is no propulsion of the ball like strings and compressible ball offer. From a (physic)al standpoint, Pickleball is much more boring due to the compaction of area and ease of technique. What technique? Now that I’m not so young anymore, I’d say P’Ball is an old-person’s sport. I first played it about 10 years ago, at a senior center when visiting my Dad. Go figure. Yes, I was good, because I’ve played so much tennis. Tennis is a much harder sport. But my body also objects more and more to today’s tennis game. It’s a lot of work to stay loose and healthy in tennis in 50’s. I hope Mark does not defect to P’Ball. Yeah, the Pickleball/Tennis noises are different and distracting, but we have to adjust.

I don't care that people want to play wiffle tennis with a pizza peel, my problem is that it is stepping on tennis' shoes. Tennis has been around for well over a century. Just because a bunch of crappy tennis players want to convert some picnic game into a national sport, doesn't mean tennis players and courts have to suffer. Smaller, cheaper to maintain, blah blah. Sports aren't about real estate. A tennis court is not that large. They fit most anywhere. And a pickleball court will fit in even more places. Like a driveway, backyard, state park, community activity center, etc. But people who make decisions see a court and a net and take the cheap way out to build pickle courts and end up cannibalizing tennis. I hate it. My tennis club has 10 tennis courts. During winter it's almost impossible to get a court. Now the club has taken 2 courts a way so they can build 8 pickle courts. Do you know how fucking annoying it will be having to listen to the clickity clack of a plastic wiffle ball being tapped around when you're trying to play tennis??? Have you stupid pickleball sport, but leave tennis courts alone. Go rob a basketball court or something, or rather go find a flat piece of land and build your own.

Your correct but pickle ball wants it to be about real estate and narrative they like. Switch the narrative on them are the tennis courts successful , are they paying the bills , are they being used like a tennis court was intended.

Watched your pickle ball video and not very tempting sport despite the growth, looks like an awful combo of tennis and ping pong combined on a tiny court with grand pas on it 🤣🏓

Pickleball simply makes more sense: - lower barrier of entry when compared to tennis - one tennis court is the equivalent of about four pickleball courts in terms of space - smaller court provides a more social aspect - the sport can accommodate a greater age range than tennis - all while providing great exercise and fun, in addition to great competition at the highest skill levels
