Correction. the pain killer was a substance she would smother on her skin relieving pain. That’s the reasoning for the oily skin and garlicky smell. The woman was given oxygen in the ambulance when she was being driven to the ER.( she had trouble breathing) this oxygen mixed with other specific conditions + the pain reliever ( which was actually just some substance not even intended for pain relief but did the work anyway) created a whole new chemical that was lethal if too much was breathed in. Damaging your insides and stuff. All of this is just a theory. Some people say it was “mass histeria” but I digress. I know I didn’t get every detail but there’s so much more I highly recommend watching a video about this woman because it is so fascinating and mysterious

This animation is very inaccurate. Ramirez had ovarian cancer and was trying literally everything to cure herself, creating a slurry of different medication and chemicals in her system. The leading theory was that Ramirez had been using dimethyl sulfoxide as a home remedy for pain as it creates a potent garlic smell and could create yellow crystals in blood under the right conditions. DMSO is a pain reliever but is only sold for human in low potency, but there is a degreaser that has DMSO in high potency which athletes back then used and what she was probably taking aswell. Its assumed the DMSO mixed with all the other chemicals in her body because of the defibrillator, creating DMSO⁴ which was used in ww1 as poisonous gas
