I got asked to cover this over on IG (@Alex.Martini__) and because I left my tin hat out from the last video I decided to give this my thoughts. I don't know why Toyota would so directly deny any accountability other than because they don't want to have news articles reporting on their reliability issues....so instead they'll let the reporting be about the fires themselves. lol. I've never been a fan of the introduction of data collection in cars. I understand WHY they exist, but opting out should be as easy as it is on my iphone and if you think for a second this won't eventually litter into an insurance claim for you, I got bad news... But what're your thoughts? Am I overstretching and creating unnecessary "KZbin" hype or AMIRITE.? Love ya'll. Mod your car at MartiniWorks or i'll call you parents.

ive always thought too much technology will only cause problems in a car the only hope now is for enough people to be made aware of it and try to rally against it or boycott new cars that track your data if we dont do something about it or at least voice concerns to manufacturers eventually the government might force all cars on the road to be incapable of exceeding the speed limit

Insurance DID cover his damage. They totaled his car. Insurance will only give you fair market value. The owner had a gap, meaning he stilled owed MORE money than the car is worth. This is likely because he put 0 zero down or because he was underwater on his previous load and rolled over the balance on to his new loan. How to avoid this? Purchase Gap insurance to cover the difference, put more money down or avoid rolling over remaining balance onto your new loan. This scenario would also happen if you get into a car accident leaving the dealership or if you total your car within 36 of ownership. For reference, most auto loans are for OVER 100% of the sale price meaning people finance taxes, fees, previous balances etc. These are the risks.

I'd say it would actually be more like buying a phone and voiding the warranty by jail-breaking it and installing apps that were not approved, then claiming warranty when your phone gets screwed up. Be realistic. At no time has any auto manufacturer or insurance company opted to cover your car when used in a racing application. I'm not saying you should feel good about it or that it's cool that you get hosed... but every insurance or warranty policy says this. It doesn't matter what the car is built for. If you race it or push it in a manner that goes outside "legal" use, then expect to not have an issue covered under insurance or warranty. If insurance or auto manufacturers didn't put in these disclaimers, they'd go broke with all the money they'd have to shell out to fix these things. This is reality at its finest... and I don't understand how people are all shocked and shaken by it.

to be fair with the GR86/BRZ, Subaru never really advertised performance. They were pretty straight up saying this is a car for road consumption, while Toyota were giving free track days and hyping it up as Gazoo Racing. Toyota is a marketing behemoth, and have more marketing power and reach, and have different marketing on their cars, than Subaru. So they even created some random back history for the car (how the vision was born from classic Toyota cars (where some lead designer referenced some old school boxer Toyota, but then they still tie it into the AE86 somehow, which makes no sense, besides the obvious reason of marketing) and how Mr Toyoda gave it his personal tick of approval, and how it forms part of Gazoo Racing etc) while Subaru never mentioned any of that crap, they just built it from an Impreza chassis and used Subaru parts (or Subaru designed parts) then sold it as the BRZ and gave Toyota their cars. Also, when it came to warranties, from all the forum reports I have read, Subaru have been more supportive of covering in warranty, while Toyota was initially fighting them, then finally caved in.

@@Jez4prez1 I don’t think that’s accurate. Toyota/subaru/scion was even offering track days for the GT86. And it’s not just those cars. Subaru pushed the rally heritage of the WRX/STI constantly. Commercials of the car going off road in a rally style setting, press release of the car doing canyon runs. All to do deny warranty claims at every turn, even for known issues. My 15 WRX had transmission issues and despite the car being stock, and a TSB, they claimed that It was from the car being raced. I never raced the car but the problem is I couldn’t prove that I didn’t. I probably could have lawyered up but that would have costed more than the repair itself. I know other people that had to fight Subaru for some of the most basic warranty claims.

@@sacredgear "I don’t think that’s accurate. Toyota/subaru/scion was even offering track days for the GT86. " GT86 is Toyota. " And it’s not just those cars. Subaru pushed the rally heritage of the WRX/STI constantly" Yeah, rally heritage. It never told you these are rally cars, here is a free rally pass. Because the WRX and WRX STI are literal econo cars, made to drive around the streets with. Subaru actually sold the Spec C for rally purposes, and they were only allowed to be sold to people who had a rally drivers license (at least in my country -, only a small number were imported by the dealer, as it was a Japan only model). Rally teams would buy either a Spec C under special order from Subaru, or they would buy the Prodrive built version from the UK (official partner of Subaru with rally), which was already prepped. My country even had another official Subaru partnered builder of prepped rally cars (that was not Prodrive). "My 15 WRX had transmission issues and despite the car being stock, and a TSB, they claimed that It was from the car being raced." You know what I think, I think the US has bad dealers, and it can be hit and miss depending on the dealer you work with, since they just make things up. In my country it operates way differently to how it does in the US. Regardless, looking at the Gr86 and BRZ, based on all the stuff I have read which is still in the US, the GR86 forum is basically in agreement that Subaru have handled everything way better than Toyota.

After watching this video, I uninstalled my auto insurance app. My app once asked me for a permission to monitor my driving behavior. It said I could be rewarded for good driving habit when renewing next time, but I didn't allow it anyway. The info it gathers could be used against me. Anyway, I just uninstalled it because I can't trust it anymore. I will occasionally repeat install and uninstall only when I really need it for a brief moment.

This needs to reach the "normie" side of the internet, kinda like how the planned obsolescence of new cars has just started to. The only way this gets any form of walk-back is if it affects company wallets. Cars are getting dystopian man...

Planned Obsolescence goes back to before my parents day (I’m 57 and my parents are in their mid 80’s). Back when I was a kid the name Alfred P Sloan was the villain that term was applied to. Conversations then took place just as casually as now when it came to changes in automobile. My parents are still car enthusiasts but I remember when electronic fuel injection came out on GM brands and my dad didn’t embrace that well at all - for the longest time.

This is specifically the GR Corolla which is an entirely different engine created initially for rallying. Which almost certainly explains the problem as I guarantee whatever part is failing in the engine and causing fires is one that gets replaced every couple of events on the actual rally cars and so never came up as a flaw unable to handle daily driving long term.

Here's the easy explanation: The golden era of cars has already past. All these auto manufacturers including Toyota are well past their peak of building bulletproof vehicles of the 90s and 2000s. The market demands tech filled disposable cars and the automakers are more than happy to oblige.
@ronnymb67
@ronnymb67 3 ай бұрын
Agreed. The Germans started doing that in the late '90s when they decided they wanted to put one of their vehicles in everybody's garage. Quality went down. Warranty claims went up. As did the prices... In recent years I'm seeing things out of Toyota that I never saw in my nearly three decades in the automotive repair industry. Sure random things can happen to any brand, but they're getting out of hand lately. They don't want you driving your vehicles for 20 years and 300,000 miles. That's why they make lease deals so attractive. Come in every 3 years and get a new one! Their hopes are, that you make it through the warranty period with as few claims as possible, then you're on your own. Unfortunately for them, these issues are arising with young vehicles still under warranty.

The speed limit beep isn’t new tech per se…. Cars have already been registering speed limit signs for a little while now and they’d turn red if you’d surpass them. Now they’ve included a mandatory beep with it, which can be turned off. But it automatically turns on at each restart.

If that is the case.....someone who test drove the vehicle could have gone over 85mph and voided the warranty before the owner even gets to the car. Better yet the dealer that isn’t on the “up and up”, could take the car out and do it as well just to void it as well🤔

So Toyota gives out a "free GR track day", I hit >120mph on mine. There was nothing about voiding the warranty. Toyota was also giving GR86 owners shit about blowing an engine (some even on their GR track day), where when the BRZ had issues, Subaru was like "here ya go new engine". I guess that is just part of the full Subaru experience vs Toyota. The crazy thing with the 86/BRZ is Toyota recommends a 1 qt over-fill in the GR/BRZ race series that are out there, which has been proven to reduce the oiling issue blowing engines. Between that and owner data logging, Toyota definitely know why the GR/BRZ motors are blowing but Toyota tries to weasel their way out.

I’m an owner and Toyota Corporate is really making me a bit worried about long term ownership. I want to keep this car forever, it’s AMAZING. And I need the AWD, otherwise I’d move into an FL5. Golf R does not have the same appeal to me, it’s not as much fun to drive. So a new AWD manual hatch, the GR is the only option. Hopefully we get a resolution. I can only imagine what these owners are going through, my heart goes out to them. I would be devastated if the car I saved up for and dreamed of owning burst into flames with no resolution on the horizon. The disconnect between Toyota Corp and Gazoo Racing needs to be fixed.

Well small story from me on buying the new Supra GR/Yaris GR and 86 GR here in Germany. Test Drove em and all was fine and dandy. Then saw the Prices and saw the Suspicious as to how much they were vs originally expected. After not deciding to buy any Toyota in a while a Video pop up showing how a 86 GR Blew its engine on Track day (What Toyota has covered) and sadly Toyota denied the repairs and the poor fella stuck with a Broken 86. Same happened to one of my Friends that now Drives a 1970s BMW because one of the Toyota he Drove (Think if I remember correctly either the Supra or 86) right after leaving the sidewalk of the Toyota dealer (Same one I was at) the Transmission blew up. Not only did I almost buy into Toyota Deny repairs as well as a Broken car. Never again with Toyota as I lost trust into them. However my story does have a Happy end as a few streets down a Hyundai Dealer I saw a Nice i30N that I happily bought. And still drive to this day with No issues whatsoever. As well as Hyundai does actually cover you on any Track day even Nürburgring that I was at Multiple times. Its also funny how I have to pass the Toyota Dealer after visit my Hyundai Dealer,I see sometimes Yaris GR and 86 GR parked out for sale. They really are in no good place and I suggest you all consider buying something else then a Toyota,or at least a old Toyota that wont break on you and save yourself money on insurance to actually afford the repairs on small things then the whole car.
