With your settlement picks you should be setting up a clear win-condition or path to victory. The 6-9-3 is a good fundamentals first pick; it leaves your options open with good outs. But pairing that with the 6-11-12 doesn’t give you any clear path to 10. Your roads are too far apart for a solid road game. You lack ore for a dev card game. It’s basically a build to 10 strategy with low production, which is a recipe for disaster. After blue makes their (terrible) picks, you have two better options depending on the win-con you want to pursue. For a road win-con, the 8-4-10 all sheep sets you up best for that. For an OWS win-con, the 10-5-2 to the wood port sets you up for that. I personally take the 8-4-10 here all day; that spot is super valuable on pure production, and it also prevents red from getting a huge sheep port play.

Enjoying your content as you been sucked into my algorithm lately. I'm not an expert, but since you're trying to improve I would suggest you might want to practice where everyone else is going to place their settlement at the start. I think you analyze fine what you need, but you might need to consider what does everyone else get on this board? What do they need? Can you exploit dominating wood for example to trade you the resource you need, and in the process stop another to getting a valuable spot. Sometimes you might need to sacrifice your own play to stop someone of getting sick OWS for instance. Anyway, I'm not an expert, but I think practicing placing out all settlements for opponent and see what will be available for you on the way back and what the players behind you might get will up your game. And in higher tier, look at what will be tradeable and what you could extort from other players for nb/ns etc. Keep up the good work, and gl hf

Haven't watched the full game yet but for your 2nd settle I'd have thought about 5-10-2 to wood port to play an OWS game, or 8-4-3 down to the 3:1 to play a side by side road game. By taking what you did, I think your win con is a bit tougher , since red now has a much better road network and both blue and red have better OWS until you get a port. IMO building to 10 should always be a backup, not a plan A

17:00 I'd drop a road. Either to the 10 5, because if orange plows you can pivot to the wood port, or to the 3:1 on the 11 sheep, or just build to the 4 brick. All great options. 5 6 11 is going to be pointless without the wood port or a 3:1.

to be honest, I've seen a lot of people dislike the 6/11/12 - and I agree. However, I think if I take either the 5/6/11 or 3/10/11 I lose.

Oj had no port or Sheep so can't dev. You should have ben hitting red instead of OJ.

19 resource income blocked, 11 robs. The other players only had 12 7s/knights, so you were the rob all but one time. Talk about being targeted.
