The reason this hits deep in my feelings and I get emotional every time I see this guy is because a similar thing happened to my mother but with cancer and a brain tumor. The cancer spread around her body making her paralysed from the left side and then affected her brain. She was aware of situations but couldn't speak or talk to let us know. I'd see tears fall down her face when she tried to talk and it was so heartbreaking. She was in pain but couldn't tell us, she pointed at a picture that I drew when I was a kid of our family and tried to smile. Eventually after the most heartbreaking 4 years of my life, we stopped giving her medicine and kept her off life support as it was the right thing to do. It was to release her from her pain. The last day she was alive, we all gathered around her and she tried to smile because she knew her family was around her and then she peacefully drifted to never waking up again. This happened to me when I was 19. Seeing her get cancer at the age of 15 and witnessing her deteriorate to her death will never leave my head. I love you mom, RIP❤️

Dude i have no doubt he'll regain function of his body-- My brother fell from an 8th floor apartment balcony and survived, albeit with a TBI. He was put into a medically induced coma to help heal it, and then had to relearn how to walk, talk, etc. One he'd been stabilized after it'd happened, our dad brought me to see him. When it was time to leave, I told him that i loved him before turning around, and he sat up and reached out to me. That was another indicator to my parents that he was still there. When he was in the coma, he'd still show signs of consciousness; he'd move his foot to mess with one of the tubes attached to him, getting it caught between his big toe and 2nd toe. My mom got it out and told him to stop doing that-- guess what he did not a moment later? In the span of a year he woke up, was able to move his left thumb, and subsequently his hands. I still remember communicating w him through a picture of the alphabet where he'd point to the letters to spell out what he wanted-- he wanted me to put a Bleach movie we'd gotten him on the portable DVD player we brought him. My brother was absolutely in there, just held back by the effects of the TBI. He was in a motorized wheel chair at one point after he woke up too-- barely able to move anything but his hands, and limited mobility of his head. Still couldn't speak, but it was the best thing to watch him smile when i was able to figure out the password to his iPod and help him get some music playing. From then on, it was physical therapy until he was finally able to do everything he used to do again. That was back around 2008/2009-- My brother is now in his 30s and works as an electrician. I'm so proud of him. So I can absolutely believe that Prichard is (fully?)conscious inside-- the human body is an amazing thing. I have no doubt he'll be able to recover :)
@rs-mt6kl2 жыл бұрын

@Kevin Alvarado I feel it is irresponsible, to either side, to compare a vegetative state to autism. Autism is a spectrum disorder of variable severity involving IMPAIRED interaction with and reaction to a person’s environment (ie through verbal, non-verbal communication, restrictive/repetitive/obsessive thought and behavior). A vegetative state (VS) is a condition which involves a person having many severe INABILITIES to both interact with their environment and complete/sustain normal bodily processes. Note that autism does not impede vital bodily functions in the way that VS does, and many people with autism have hypersensitivity to stimuli while a person with VS has the opposite. VS is an extremely restrictive disorder which almost completely strips away the freedom of those who have it, while autism is a disorder which people learn to live with. I don’t mean to give a lecture, and I am by no means a doctor studying the complexities of brain dysfunction; however I wanted to offer up the info I have, as well as encouragement to research both conditions on your own, to inform you of the inaccuracies of your comparison.
