This video definitely hits home, Marcus is my father. Not only is he a great dad off the court, but he was such a great hooper and feel like he unfortunately never reached his potential due to injuries and fit. I also feel that he would have been a lot better in today’s era due to the fact that he was modern day big who could stretch the floor. With that being said, he still had a very solid career and killed in college. He’s a legend in Ames, everyone loves him and he built memories that’ll last forever. He’s definitely been an inspiration in my life and I’m blessed to have him has a father. I hate that injuries really derailed his career b/c he had so much more to offer, but he’s definitely done a great job in leading me in my pro career and helping me learn from his mistakes. Solid video SG much respect, and idk if you’ll ever read this but I love you Dad, you’ll always be a legend in my eyes. Really my hero/role model 🤞🏾💜

Your dad was my first ever favorite basketball player. I grew up in iowa and went to many Iowa State games as a child and was in AWE of what he could do. My entire household was rooting for him to get drafted. Really cool to watch him play. Was watching a video about Kenyon Martin who was in the same draft class and my dad would explain the differences in styles to me. Its a core part of my childhood man, and it really formed my love for basketball. So he may not have achieved all he was capable of due to injury, but he had an impact! Hope he is doing well bro!

I remember watching the 2000 draft thinking “Why’d the Bulls take him? They have Elton Brand.” Plus the Bulls had the smart idea of trying to play him at small forward. Jerry Krause (RIP) was trying waaaaay to hard during that time to prove that he could together a good team without MJ. And I wouldn’t call Iowa State a small school. They were and still are in the Big 12. Which has always been a strong conference both then and now. I mean you had Kansas when Roy Williams was still there, Oklahoma State with Eddie Sutton(RIP), Oklahoma with Calvin Sampson, and Texas with Rick Barnes.
@kmarasin3 жыл бұрын
It's tough for Iowa State to shed that label. It's mainly because of football; I believe it remains the only P5 program to have never won ten games in a season (Indiana maybe?) Every time some smartass at BleacherReport does an article on their "ideal" realignment, they try to kick ISU out entirely. It's funny because if not for the pandemic they'd have done it this past season, they won 9 games without playing a non-conference powderpuff :(

@djp2k23 жыл бұрын
This is what I don't like about the way teams draft players that play the same position as someone you already just selected in the previous year. I don't care if they are projected to be good. Brand was perfect at that time and would have benefited by having a better complimentary guard or wing play alongside that could have been selected instead of Fizer. Just because a player is available doesn't mean you should feel obligated to take him. Again in my opinion the Bulls should have selected a guard or flipped him on draft night for a different player and possible future assets. Just saying 🤷

I just wanna put this one out here. I am a huge Fizer fan and wished he had a better career. As I aged, I realized there are certain factors as to why a player doesn't pan out in the league. He is indeed one of them. The Bulls still instill the triangle offense which does not cater to Fizer's strengths and that is why he struggled with consistency. He isn't alone on that though as guys like Jamal Crawford also had their complaints. I just wanna correct another fact. He wasn't traded by the Bulls to the Bucks. He was picked up in the expansion draft by the Charlotte Bobcats but wasn't in the final roster. He signed a one year deal with the Bucks.

Ben was terrific on the Bulls...really was not the same guy after he left. And Kirk Hinrich was touch as nails, and a starter for most of his career...A guy anyone would want on their team. Tyson never really reached his full potential until he got to New Orleans, but, he also wasn't a scrub on the bulls.

I remember when he was drafted. I wanted them to get Darius Miles but he was chosen 3rd
@djp2k23 жыл бұрын
Agreed 👍 Even in hindsight knowing what D-Miles became as a pro, in that point in time it could have been a much more logical selection for the Bulls. Plus being closer to home could have possibly helped Miles develop much better than he did instead of being in LA with all that added pressure and tempting off the court distractions available out there. But that's just my opinion.

As an Iowa State fan I was so disappointed that in that talent-starved era of the early 2000's, two of the best, most decorated, and most well-prepared players in ISU history had such underwhelming pro careers. Marcus was snake-bitten with injury (ACL tears can happen to anyone no matter how well they take care of their bodies) but he's just the latest in a long line of ISU stars to flame out. I'm glad to see in the 2010s that ISU players are hanging around the league more, despite most not having the physical stats or skills that Marcus and Jamaal Tinsley had. It's an important step in the development of a college basketball program to have alumni with that pro experience who can teach the current players what it takes to make basketball into a career, no matter what league you play in. With the Fred Hoiberg connection, and players like Monte Morris and Georges Niang, and now Talen Horton-Tucker and Tyrese Halliburton, current players immediately find out what it takes and can prepare themselves accordingly.

Sad to see players become victims of a franchise's incompetence. I think he would've had a better career if he was drafted by Houston. Hakeem was past his prime, Barkley was out of shape, and the team was rebuilding. I believe with he would've had an opportunity to play a lot of minutes, get in better shape, and who knows, become a factor for the team.
