@supura7 Жыл бұрын
@@Sleepy-qr9il I dont really see why it should be lame writing tbh, using a universal rule that you already setted up in a previous game (here the souls impacting peoples life and death), I find this cool. We could also look at it from another perspective ; Daan, because of the blank soul, lived a meaningless life, he basically always "filled" his own identity with others people and their goals ; as a kid, he was pretty much ignored by his parents, the only thing that they gave him was the sylvian healing skills that they learned during crazy ass rituals, so not the most fulfilling heritage. Later in life, he found meaning only when he was in relationships, where he could merge with another person. So when this person dies, he's feeling, "blank". He becomes so desperate that the only way he can stop feeling this void at the core of his essence is to let a dark and vile entity like Pocket Cat controlling him. Pocket Cat possessing Daan's body and soul just show how blank he really becomes when alone again.

Here's what I think on why Daan is the one that pocketcat chose: (MASSIVE spoiler warning for both FH1 and FH2) Pocketcat is a servant and creation of the Rher. Rher is also known as the Trickster God and loves to meddle in the plans of others. According to the New Gods, Rher is also a Jealous God, hellbent on preventing humans from achieving their potential. This is why Pocketcat tries to buy the Girl from you in FH1; it's because Rher wishes to prevent the birth of the God of Fear and Hunger. To prevent a second All-mer. Daan's blank soul makes him uniquely suitable to the influences of the Older Gods. Out of all the Gods that we know of, there is one that is especially suited for Daan: The Sulfur God. To explain why I first need to explain a bit about the Sulfur God. The Sulfur God is a God created during All-mer's ascension. It is the formed from the parts of Himself that He wished to discard. Hatred. Anger. Sorrow. Suffering. Despair. As such, this is what the Sulfur God embodies. The Sulfur God also goes by a few other names, most notably the One-eyed God. In ending C it is shown that the Sulfur God only has his right Eye. So here's why Daan is Uniquely suited to the Sulfur God: -Daan has grown up with the influences from the Older Gods. -Daan is filled with most of the emotions associated with the Sulfur God. -Daan lost his wife and her father to the Sulfur God. (If playing as daan, it's revealed that Needles and Stitches are the baron and Daan's wife Elise respectively) -Daan only has his right eye remaining. Putting these things together, it would make sense that if Daan were to join the Sulfur Cult, something big would happen and a creature of great power would be created. Likely rivaling the power of the Gods, perhaps even that of the Older Gods. Maybe Daan would become the embodiment or a vessel of the Sulfur God with which it can influence the world. Regardless of which of these is true, Rher would wish to interfere as it does not tolerate humans becoming this powerful. And Rher would do so by turning Daan into Pocketcat.

Things I love about F&H Termina + general tips (spoilers): - Use Books of Revelation when you find them, but make an alternate save just in case - Karin can start with a pistol and extra ammo, v useful for preemptive strikes - Marina can start with Necromancy and high Gro-Goroth affiliation, meaning she can get meat shields for combat right off the bat and gets some fun offensive magic - Abella's B ending has her INVENTING SPACE TRAVEL all so she can go to the moon herself and get some answers from Rher. Polly, if theres one thing I love about this, is that we had the almost exact same playthrough except two main differences. I chose to pickpocket as Daan, and once I reached that point of needing to make a decision. I made the opposite decision, I refused to kill the other contestants if I could help it and give a middle finger to pocket cat after seeing his time over if you rest past the night of day 3. Olivia and Marcoh were my god damn rocks as I barrelled through all I could trying to find a way ANY way. And then in the museum I met that damn cat again and he let the info slip. That there 'was' something else. Went into the bunker realized what I had to do, picked up Marina as I did not realize she was in trouble and saved her, and we proceeded to head down and deep until I used everything in my power to defeat the final gauntlet of ending A before me. And even I nodded and smiled as it felt like Daan, Olivia, Marcoh, and Marina made their decision to end the festival their own way and they did even at the cost. And man after seeing the other endings possible was I SO glad I did that cause DAMN everything else sucks lol. I only wish I was able to save more of the people but I spent my time searching for so long most became moonscorched. Four made it out and I'm glad Tanaka was one of them, felt like him and marcoh had that moment and Tanaka grew from it. I love this difference and crossroad we both approached entirely differently.

Idk which one is going to be the canon ending but the whole thing with Logic sounds like the True Route. In the end the fight with the moon god doesnt lead anywhere and maybe the Sulfur god thingie is going to be ok.

4:44 something you forgot to add is that you can succeed the coin flip in these attacks if you guard (Enemies with a coin flip attack will show you that beforehand, for example, the guards from fear n hunger 1 will say "the stinger is pulsating" before doing the grab attack.)

Fear and Hunger and a series, and Termina especially are some of my favorite games ever. I follow about 90% of the creators you mentioned, and i especially love Frapollo94! The developer really leaned into picking your own style and how that affects the story, really draws you into playing the game in multiple ways and multiple attempts. Daan, Olivia, and Marco are some of my favorite characters. Each character is really in depth and allows you to learn about them and their motives/story. These endings were so much better than Fear and Hunger, they absolutely went SICKO MODE in leaning the lore and how gods are created and never truly die. Really really loved this video!!! Thank you for highlighting the series in such a positive but critical light!!!

I very much like how, in a game as brutal and unpredictable as Fear and Hunger, arguably the most brutal and difficult part, the combat, is the most consistent and reliable. Once you know how an enemy behaves and how to fight it, that never changes. You've now got some level of comfor and assurance, which is massive in a game as brutal as these.

My first walkthrough was for Marcoh. I've started with finishing Tanaka off just couple screens away from the train. It downspiraled from that point. Magic Marcoh on drugs is a murder-machine. The game really encourages player to hunt those contestants down and becomes nigh unbearably hard if you don't, unless one is playing Abella who can wrench-toss and later on lawnmower-blade through most problems😂

I agree the game would be much more interesting if the characters you don't pick were more proactive in the battle royale. Especially if, given F&H's history of very obscure actions with far-flung consequences, you could manipulate hostilities between others. Maybe you could inscribe Gro-Goroth's sigil on someone as Marina, and if they encounter O'saa Nas'hrah pushes him to murder them as he's still got a chip on his nonexistant shoulder from that time he was annihilated. Or give another contestant the armor of a Bremen soldier together with a face-covering headgear so that Marcoh will mistake them for a soldier and kill them before he can realize his mistake. Or kill Marina and plant one of her items on another contestant, causing them to be ambushed by Samarie/Dysmorphia. Just pitching ideas here. If the game ever gets modded maybe we'll see such things.

This comment is for the Termina thematical critique section: As much as I like the idea of the other characters being more interactive in the festival to me personally it doesn't make sense when a lot of them are just very logical people, I can see a few getting involved asap like Ossa, or maybe even Levi but other then that a lot of the player characters at this time don't have a real reason to go murdering each other right away...that's why they go about their schedule, none the of the other characters oppose a threat. now for the none playable characters, well they are a different story because I can for sure see Pav, Samarie, and Caligura just going our of their way from the getcho to kill people and I mean by all rights they already do sorta but other then that I feel it would hurt the games more believable character writing to have them just go for it from the start or even by the second day start, I feel as though most of our playable characters have the mental fortitude to withstand this sort of shock or even be skeptical about their even being a festival or truly something....'magical' or eldritch like going on, I mean for fuck sake Karin will keep thinking this is a experiment crafted by the rival army forces even through day two..which is nuts to me sure but to her it must make logical sense, so even though its a rad idea I think it may be a step in the wrong direction for the contestance to act more...blood thirsty.

For me, Levi was always my favorite. To me, he was the most uniquely tragic character. He was an orphaned child-soldier. His choices on the train are "a suicide mission", and "to abandon it", the choices of which, leave you with some loot, and a heroin addiction, or..? Nothing. Nada. You abbandoned your mission, to save your sanity, but what did you lose? The same goes for taking the mission. You got some loot, but what did you lose? These kinds of war experiences are very hard for even some grown adults to deal with, so being a child and dealing with that, must be hard. Levi almost can never win. To me, in the game, Levi doesn't buddy up if you pick another character. He travels alone, much like his millitary training would have taught him. That's why he drops the solitary soul. He makes stashes, and is capable enough by himself to take on some tough enemies, further cementing to himself, that 'he doesn't need anyone', which is likely a defense mechanism he developed, since the world would take his friends, and seemingly everything else in his life. He had to learn to rely on himself, and not to rely on others, whether he wanted it or not. And finally, the cherry on top, his moonscorched form, "weeping scope." What is weeping scope, really? Descriptivly, it's a man, with a gaudy, barrel-like growth, spouting from his face. However, it doesn't appear to grow organically, it looks more like some kind of tumor. To me, the moonscorching is a kind of a monkey-paw for your desires/insecurities. Marina wants to 'be someone else', to emerge from a COCOON into someone/something else. Marcoh wants to be strong, so the game makes him hideously large and malformed, but, hey, he's strong. Karin wants to venerate soldiers like a valkerie, and O'saa wants to obtain knowledge. Olivia is tricky. She might want to feel more comfortable with her wheelchair, to feel more human, but the moonscorching takes it the other way, and instead makes her more robotic to fit in with her wheelchair. Anyway, back to Levi. Levi wants to be the best soldier, a fate and goal no child should really want or have, but it was 'inorganically' thrust apon him. Just like in the intro sequence, Levi is given a choice where he loses either way. His moonscorching turns him into a better solider, at the cost of changing him physically. The gun barrel from his face, and by extension, fighting and war are now an insperable part of him, and he's hideous. That is the true nature of war. War is not beautiful, it is a hideous growth that changes you into something else whether you like it or not. You will be a better soldier, but at what cost? What did you lose? The weeping scope is a child. A child watching as the horrors of war shape him into a killing machine, a hideous, monstrous, killing machine. The child inside that "perfect soldier" is crying. These are the burdens no child should have to take, and yet here he is, shouldering them. I can imagine a levi in an early stage of his transformation, watching himself in the mirror, and sobbing, being afraid and scared of what will happen, like a child, because that's what he still is. A child. The child with the trauma of being a solider. It really took me weeks to piece all of this together, and that's honestly why I think he is the most tragic character. My hat goes off to the dev. This is a masterclass in charcter design.

This is a really intelligent reading of Levi, well said and thank you for sharing!

Honestly, Fear & Hunger is a perfect fit for the idea of grimdark: a world that doesn't care who you are - a respected doctor, a compassionate priest, a noble war hero, a slimy businessman, a silver-tongued pickpocket or a pitiful beggar - bad things can and will happen to anyone at any time, nothing feels fair, people will commit some of the most horrific acts against each other for any reason or no reason at all, and the only way you can survive, even just barely, is to be willing to be a part of it all. I know "grimdark" may have been diluted by years of seeing it plastered over Warhammer 40K stuff, but actually seeing it play out, the oppressive miserable universe behind all those fantastic space battles and how utterly depressing everything actually is, you definitely get the feeling of just how bad things can actually get - those mighty heroes are the vast minority, not everyone gets to become a powerful figure capable of influencing the world, the trillions of others are just mere scratch marks on the great tablet of history, if even that, and the universe will not care one bit. It's pretty much a step or two below cosmic horror, but I definitely find it fascinating just how people can play with the idea of grimdark without being edgy for edginess' sake, and the setting for Fear & Hunger really is a great fit for the genre - I'm curious just whether there'll be a third installment or if more external media will be made.

I remembered my playthrough of fear and hunger 2 with me also playing daan, discovering the sad story of Samaria, even with the minor amount of context felt melancholy due to the situations that happened to her and shown what the game truly was, a dark mirror to life.. Also as you seemly enjoyed this game and seen you to be preserving, I think you should play a indie game called Lobotomy Corporation. It’s like fear and hunger termina but minus the nudity but having an amazing story and many twist, and knowing that all of the game mechanics are thier for a REASON, through it’s own dystopian world with its own dark stories to tell. If you are able to preserve and take on the games challenges (with maybe taking a few for the experience mods) you discover a game that I would compare to fear and hunger termina .(Actually thier is 1 exception to nudity but it’s not that bad)

As someone whose not done with the game yet but has put in dozens of hours, my one critique is that while Prehevil is an interesting setting, i was hoping for a secret reveal location similar to Fear and Hunger 1. By far the most incredible moment for me in the first F&H was making it to the Le'gard, thinking i was done, and then finding out there was a full city to explore, completelt changing the feel from q dungeon crawler to a strange abstract horror. It feels like Rher's realm is supposed to give off a similar feeling but... its just kinda wood? Idk it just doesnt hit as hard. Everything else about the game is qmazing, and im looking forward to seeing it improve further and further.

First playthrough my roommate says that Levi looks exactly like me. We laugh. Get his backstory, child soldier. There is a running joke with my friends that I was a child soldier. Laugh again. He's got PTSD. I've got most of the symptoms, so close enough. Decide that I am Levi for as long as I play the game. Get into the actual game, blow away tutorial boss with a shotgun. Give every enemy the thousand yard stare and the "..." option, there will be no mercy. Refuse to do heroine, I like my pain and suffering raw thank you very much, now I am at 70% base stats for the entire game. Always liked a challenge. Proceeds to play the game like I am speedrunning DOOM, run and gun the entirety of Prehevil. Make it to the tower Day 1 out of sheer stubborness (bolt cutters and lucky ammo loot). Watch Pav get sliced. Decide to stop his bleeding since I dont need the cloth fragment, I will die the moment I get into battle. Decide on the spot to save anyone I can, except that albino who scowled at me on the train. Ugly prick. Get into the museum, put together the fluted armor, steal a sword (swords and guns are the weapons of the doomslayer) and accidentally make it past the clock just trying to learn the controls of the clock. Nice. Dungeon is still locked. Not nice. I tear apart the entirety of prehevil and the woods beyond it. Die to a clown with a thing for needles. Lose heroine addiction somehow. I think it was the BDSM ghost orgasm, but I don't ask questions. Track him down and get revenge with my fixed stats. Fight a centaur that still haunts my dreams, find a bunker, find a yellow priest, convince him to be my bro with the power of friendship, turn on some giant comouter. Find another bunker in the sewers, fight some rat people and a big dog, turn on another computer. Feeling pretty strong at this point. Go back to the starting area, find another bunker, shit my pants at the elephant man chasing me, escape using a sigil. Made it back to the white bunker before I realized I never turned on the third computer. Curses loud enough to wake my roommate in another room. Fight a tank demon baby. Fight some old dude in a bath robe. Became a computer or something. Basically everyone gets out alive, except for me and my boi. 10/10, great game. Would shoot people with leprosy again.

On your criticism of the narrative, I feel that the characters being mostly decent people pretty much explains why none of them besides the absolute scumbags(Caligura) and cowards(Henryk) participate in the death game. They feel like real people because people don't just attack eachother to survive like in a bad anime. Most people in general would try to find an alternative way out of the nightmare. Horror is not horror unless it is about good or relatable people trapped in a nightmarish situation. If everyone in the death game is a bad person or trying to kill you then there is no weight to making the decision to kill another character. Even so, the battle royale aspect of it is not the bottom line of the game and more of a plot device to explain why the characters are there and to give the player a time limit. Way I see it, it's actually way more messed up that the gods have to use divine intervention just to make these people kill eachother when they otherwise wouldn't.
@Pollymacho Жыл бұрын
I can see where your coming from with this and I do agree that having people looking for alternate ways aside from the royale is great, these characters are fantastic! I actually really like Henryk transition in the game. He starts like a likeable enough, guy trying to help out the group and offering to cook for you. But as the days pass, he starts to get paranoid and then THAT happens. And that betrayal can be really impactful because for most of the game, he's been apart of this group of survivals. It's only when his back is push against the wall that he cracks. I find that idea of taking good people and forced into circumstances to do horrible things as a additional aspect of the horror Termina has set up.

i hope in Fear and Hunger 3, there's a voice acting story mode, so we could hear what's their voice looks like. I feel bad to Daan, he was a special character having a blank soul and thanks for people who make theories and opinion about him. I understood now why he has blank soul.
@Blewlongmun6 ай бұрын
18:45 A year later and I have to ask, who is Daan talking to if he's pocket cat? I know the theory that pocket cat is a sort of an extra dimensional immortal being but I find it interesting you can just meet him normally playing as Daan. The contestants seem to be special in that they moonscorch into powerful monsters compared to normal abominations, for how detail oriented this game is it feels weird that there's a second potential PC completely unmentioned throughout the game. I wouldn't put it past this series to have the rare side event be cannon over the common one, IE Daan could become PC but never actually does. I feel a similar enjoyment from Funger and I do One Piece, it's such a well realized world I can't help but wonder where it's going.
@MegaDchamp6 ай бұрын
Knowing Rher, my theory is that Daan's blank soul makes him a candidate for an ascended god, which both pisses off and terrifies Rher. So he has his servant Pocketcat follow Daan, cash in on his misfortunes, and attempt to sway him into assuming the title, also enslaving Daan and ensuring he never attains the means to reach godhood.
@dustgraystone9448 Жыл бұрын
I'm kinda happy that the other contestants don't try to murder each other on the drop of a hat. I don't know but that gives it a more grounded feel... despite everything aboit this world. And besides, I think it would be a VERY different game if it leans much more on the battle royale aspect.
