She went through so much sorrow! First losing her 1st fiancé at such a young age! She outlived all her sons, 2nd son as a baby, 3rd in his twenties, and let’s not forget the brutal death of her other 2 sons, and grand babies

Nikolai didn’t die in Russia. He died in Nice, and there is a beautiful Ortodox church built at the place of his death. A lot of information about Alexander III is wrong, for example, he never drank alcohol and had a healthy lifestyle (which is mentioned in many diaries and memoirs of his royal relatives). He died because of kidney disease. He preferred to live away from S-Petersburg because he didn’t like a luxurious court life, not because he was afraid of anyone.

Good video! I love the pictures of Maria Feodorovna as young Dagmar. I’m not sure I consider her life as tragic. It’s more that she SURVIVED so many tragedies. Many noble women of that era died or were assassinated themselves. She was a survivor!

Alexander and Dagmar really did love each other very much. I’ve learned much about Christian IX Children and their history and this couple fell very deeply in love probably because Alexander was so different from his brother so there was no comparing the two.
