I've always said the Hero of Time had an incomplete story. All we know is he died and became the heros shade. There's an entire blank period between Majoras Mask and Twilight Princess. He deserves one final game to complete the story. He is arguably the most important and legendary Link in the bloodline. Its only fair he gets a proper conclusion.

It would be pretty badass if his story ended with him sacrificing himself to save Zelda and hyrule.
@tylerbrown35164 жыл бұрын
I'd like his ending to be bittersweet that pulls on the heart strings. Something like The Heros shade sitting on a tree stump in the lost woods holding sarias ocarina. Her ghost appears, along side all of the sages with Zelda, Malon, and the citizens of both termina and Hyrule, tatel, tale, navi, skullkid, etc... She reaches out her hand and tells him its time to come home. As their hands touch, the heros shade turns back into Link, and they depart for the afterlife. It would be a perfect way to end his story and show he was not forgotten.

I think it's also important to note that the Hero of Time was sealed away for seven years and just "woke up" as an adult. From Link's perspective, he'd have no time to develop mentally, so in his head, he must still be a child even if his body became adult. That makes the whole thing a lot more messed up and tragic for the poor boy.

The life and times of the Hero of Time. The most depressing story for the most depressing time of the year. Love it.
ironic in the adult timeline he is a legend that outlasts hyrule itself and in botw still has legend of his achievements which is like 100 000 years in the future more than any link
@gregspencer13554 жыл бұрын
BOTW is waaaaay more depressing. That Link worked hard with zelda to gather powerful friends and then watched as they were locked inside the divine beasts and murdered by manifestations of ganon. And then he died. In his prime. And then woke up 100 years later to the aftermath of complete genocide.
@SDHVFS4 жыл бұрын
@@gregspencer1355 I mean for me botw is the second or third most depressing after the hero of time and maybe hero of legend Botw didn't actually help zelda gather the champions they were selected by the king and zelda went to visit them and ask for their response. Link didn't die where did that come from. and their was no complete genocide. Hyrule just lost it's army thats basically and only central hyrule was taken hylian continued to live in peace and were fine. True he lost the champions but that was about it, he made new friends, saved zelda and at least got the chance to say goodbye to his old friends. Hyrules state in botw was nothing compared to OOT which ganondorf had an absolute rule over not just one section: -Goron were imprisoned and about to be eaten -Zora were frozen over completely -Kokiri couldn't leave their homes or they would be killed -Hyrules army was wiped out (just like botw) -Hylians lived in fear -Links friends were all captured (sages) Compared to that Botw was a joke they only had one of the points above which was the lost army the hylians living weren't bothered by ganon As for the hero of the wild he only really lost his four friends and he may not even like revali He still had zelda, new friends, his fame and a chance to restore the land he saved which was still in good condition The hero of time lost: -His parent the great deku tree -His potential lover zelda -His friends the sages, malon and everyone else without a chance to say goodbye to the unlike botw -The chance to see the future of world he saved -His weapons and powers he worked hard to gain -His companions navi and epona -His fame and legacy which caused him to become regretful and unable to pass on for a large number of years Literally after he returned he got no credit for his deeds, his dad was dead, navi ditched him all his hard work lost and all his friends hated him because mido told them he killed the deku tree so link had nothing Its ironic as he died regretting he had no fame yet in the adult time like his legacy went on for like 100000 years even after hyrule sunk. Literally in the windwaker the people prayed to him like he was a God to save them from ganon before they even prayed to the actual gods thats how much faith they had in him His legend still goes strong even in botw even more so than other links who are more recent So while botw was sad I dont think it holdes a candle to time

As someone who grew up living and breathing Ocarina of Time, it hurts me so much to know of his life after Majora’s Mask. The constant tragedies that have befallen onto him - leaving his childhood to become the Hero, having none of his friends remember him, then working endlessly as the Hero only to have all that hard work thrown away, to being sent back to his childhood, losing the girl that he (probably) loved (Zelda), to losing his best friend and not being remembered as the triumphant Hero he was... From the start to the end of his life... tragedies just stack up all the way until his death on the battlefield. When I first found out about what really happened to my favorite variation of Link, it continued to bother me. I hated that my favorite Hero had such a tragic life. I always knew that I had some special connection to the Hero of Time, and I realize now that it’s because *I WAS* that Hero. That was me out there, fighting for Hyrule. To my younger self, that life felt as real as you and I. To this day... it pains me to see that the things I worked for as a child... had to end in such a tragic way. Every time I hear that simple, yet touching opening theme to Ocarina of Time, I feel like I’m going to cry. Long live the greatest video game ever made...
@BelieveIt10514 жыл бұрын
I think those are all misconceptions though. After Link goes back in time, everything is back to normal. It's just the guard in the alley who dies. He saves everyone in Termina, then returns to Hyrule. In the original timeline he goes all the way to the end of LA, which is after LttP, in which he has found his uncle. All his friends should still be alive. Plus new friends.

Even the hero of twilight would be highly sympathetic towards his great grandfather (The hero of time himself) So no doubt this link which is the hero of time is definitely the most important one that all the other links would follow.

Yeah this Link had a brutal trial to go through. Not to mention that in Twilight Princess, he ends up as a *Stalfos with the regret of never passing on his legacy that no one even knows about. It's safe to say that this Link was pretty much the punching bag for a tragic childhood story. At least other Links are much older (besides The Wind Waker Link) *Edit: Alright, he might not be a "stalfos" in the traditional sense but this is from the zelda gamepida page of the Hero Shade/Spirit. "the Hero's Spirit's form has bluish skin and a pallid, decaying appearance, with a skeletal face." Let's compromise and say that he's a skeleton ghost specter, not a stalfos. But his Japanese translation could be looked at as "Skeleton Warrior" so I assumed that it was a Stalfos. My bad. Thank you for the kind comments. :)

Maybe Malon died first when they was old. Maybe Link didn't die 'til after leavin' Twilight Princes Link--their son--in the villagers' hands. Those villagers lived in Ordon Village where that son was gonna grow up as Ilia's childhood friend. He was an old veteran who fought ta really keep Hyrule safe (his Hyrule was destroyed by Ganondorf's attack 'cuz he warned the Royal Family of his plot). He was also protectin' his son. Then, 17 years later, Twilight Princess happened. Twilight Princess Link was born as a human. Then he became a wolf. At 17 years old, he started his journey with the motivation ta really rescue the kids, AND get 'em back home. He finished the story by killin' Ganondorf in battle as justice by stabbin' the center of his chest with the Master Sword (bringin' the peace, the freedom, the justice, and the security back to Hyrule AND the Twilight Realm by killin' the Dark Lord). It was with the purpose of endin' the Twilight Invasion, protectin' everybody else who still lived, and becomin' the hero at 17 years old. With the next Links in later eras (like the Era of Shadow, the Era of Light and Dark, the Era of Decline, an' the Era of the Wilds in chronological order) bein' successful in defeatin' the major villains like the next Ganondorf (the one who became the Ganon from Four Swords Adventures and A Link to the Past), the lands of Hyrule in their eras ended up bein' saved from Demise curse. An' the Hero of Time's legacy DID carry on, all the way to the Link in Breath of the Wild. Midna was knocked out. In the deleted text, the Dark Lord said "one of my blood". He could mean "nephew". When somebody's yer nephew, he's yer blood. In a vision, Zant's spirit was snappin' his own neck (not Ganondorf's), a gesture that was mockin' his former master while the Master Sword finished the job. An' Link was the one who killed the King of Thieves with the Master Sword finishin' the job by bein' inside 'im (as justice ta make sure that nobody else was gettin' murdered, robbed, an' terrorized by the Demon King), not Zant. With the giant dead, Midna's curse was lifted, an' then she Link saw her real form. He was surprised, an' then he was happy that she was OK. Link an' Zelda was forced ta say goodbye ta Midna when she destroyed the Mirror of Twilight with her tear (preventin' the Twilight Invasion from repeatin'). After that, he put the Master Sword back in the pedestal. Then maybe the sword itself was taken to the northwestern woods before A Link to the Past (the Pedestal of Time wasn't gonna be taken anywhere, so maybe the sword needed a new stone where it could rest). Maybe THAT'S why Link the Hero of Legend could find it in the Lost Woods in the northwest (of the Hyrule in his era, hundreds of years after Four Swords Adventures).

The Hero of Time is by far the most important Link in Nintendo can be viewed as the Babe Ruth of the NY Yankees due to his importance, manliness & good looks. Of course, he smashed both of the princess & the ranch girl.
@misterzia012 жыл бұрын
My own theory is as follows. When link returned to the past after ocarina of time, Zelda believed him but the king kicked link out and humiliated the hero. Zelda knowing that link is right does everything in her power to at least convince the king to deny ganondorf an audience. Slighted, ganondorf returns to the desert to consolidate power. At this moment, link leaves on a journey, both to find nami and ease his anger from saving an ungrateful land by helping people who don't take him for granted in termina. After saving termina, link returns to hyrule. Because of link and Zelda's difference of position (she was a princess and he was an orphan), link did not pursue her love. Without anyone needing his sword skills because the crisis of oot had been averted, link looked for work. He, had no relationship among the zora, sheikah, gerudo, Gordon, and the kokiri kicked him out of the forest so he couldn't exactly find a job easily at those places. Kakariko village is undergoing construction which isn't a job for a child so link decides to work as a ranch hand at lon lon ranch for many years. Overtime, link developed a better relationship with malon and even married her inheriting the ranch with talon's blessing though much to ingo's chagrin. The couple have at least one child and for a short time, live their lives happily, with link intending to instruct his child in the way of the sword. But soon afterwards, ganondorf strikes at Hyrule with the full strength of the gerudo to force link to take the master sword so the door to the sacred realm is opened. The original temple of time is destroyed but not before link retrieves the blade. Link defeats Ganon but is unable to kill him with his current power and lost an eye in the fight. Ganondorf cruelly unleashes his minions after the hylians. Monsters and gerudo hunt down the people of Hyrule relentlessly. The king of Hyrule has ganondorf executed but not before the triforce of power attaches to Ganon. They fail at killing him so instead they seal him into the twilight realm which is pretty much Hyrule's dumpster. Despite Ganon being sealed, the monsters persist. Link prioritizes his family's safety so he takes his wife, child(s), and epona along with a caravan of supplies to the kokiri forest hoping that the magic of the forest will hide them. Monsters pursue them into the forest and once they are in the lost woods deep enough. Link faces the horde alone so none may follow his family. He wins the battle but is mortally wounded, as a result, link becomes a stalfos. The deku tree protects link's family as they pass through the lost woods. On the other side of the great forest is fertile land. Malon and her child bury link and establish ordon village. The deku tree honors link's sacrifice by building a new temple of time has his tomb. The master sword is laid to rest here. Link is filled with regrets because he was never recognized as a hero except by his family until his last breath. He had not only been forgotten, but also ignored because he failed to stop ganon. Lastly he was unable to pass on his skill with the sword to his children whom were only babies. Link lingers in the forest where he is constantly reminded of his regrets and failures. First allowing Hyrule to become ruined in oot, losing Navi, failing to kill Ganon in the new timeline, losing his family, unable to pass on his legacy. The hero of twilight is everything the hero of time hoped for in a son. This was the one who would succeed where the hero of time failed, and his pride was well placed because the hero of twilight didn't only match his expectations, but exceeded them.

@mkt5684 жыл бұрын
Odd as it may sound, I do not think the Hero of Time was killed at the Beginning of the Downfall Timeline. Wind Waker showed Ganondorf could claim the pieces of the Triforce without killing anyone who held a piece. And as was discussed in Oracle of Ages, the Broken Sword (which is reforged into the Master Sword since Seasons came first), was left in the possession of the elderly Zora’s family by a past hero. My head canon is that after Ganondorf claimed the full Triforce and became Ganon, he used it to resurrect Twinrova, which distracted him long enough for the Sages to deal him in the Dark World. Twinrova then fled Hyrule, likely working on a plan to either break his seal or resurrect him, and the Hero of Time went into a self exile to chase them down. Near the end of his life, he would then leave the Master Sword in the possession of that elderly Zora’s family, where it would be passed down until it ended up in the hands of the Hero of Legend, who would reforge it at Restoration Wall and use it to stop Veran, Twinrova and Ganon. Afterwards, the Oracles would likely take it to Hyrule and it would be used by one of the Knights of Hyrule to end the Imprisoning War, before leaving it in its pedestal deep in the Lost Woods for the Hero of Legend to draw come A Link to the Past. But hey, that’s just a theory of my own.

Poor Hero of Time he saved Hyrule and Termina. Healed a wandering Goron ghost's regrets and listened to the final words of a dying Zora. He took upon himself not only to listen but to provide solutions to their problems/ regrets on their behalf. Fast forward to returning back to Hyrule his life was presumably short. The most heartbreaking thing is that the Hero of Time - became a wandering ghost with regrets like the ones he once consoled. Though, he did find solace by teaching the his sword skills to TP Link.

I have... several questions How do you know Saria gave him the fairy ocarina again in the child timeline? We never see him with Fairy Ocarina in that timeline, only the ocarina of time Zelda gave him. Why do you think Terminians are elitists who reject the goddesses in favour of mask worship? There's implications in Stone Tower Temple that the Triforce is disrespected (upside down and being licked iirc), but that's just one abandoned location in the world, it doesn't indicate what, say, a random Clock Town citizen believes. How do you know Ganondorf's invasion in the child timeline was actually an epic war that Link was absent from? It could have been a mass of bloodshed or it could have been won by the Hylians easily without much conflict, especially since they had forewarning from Link. And, Ganondorf would have had to rush it since his initial plan to backstab the king was suddenly cut short. Plus, Nabooru probably wasn't brainwashed yet and I doubt she'd be cool with slaughtering random citizens. Surely there'd be some resistance from the Gerudo to obeying Ganondorf. I mean maybe Twinrova forced her into it but there's still the other issues. Unless you're saying Ganondorf waited quit a while before attacking? Got kicked out of Hyrule because some kid with a triangle said he's a meanie butt, and Ganondorf spent years being butthurt and planning the invasion? Also, Link and Malon moving to Kokiri Forest hinges on the idea of the ranch being burned in the war, but would the ranch be a target anyway? Especially since the adult timeline in OoT indicates that Ganondorf saw the ranch and the horses they raised as a useful resource he could use. And you say Link kept searching for Navi after MM and had more adventures before going back to Hyrule but how do you know? What other adventures? How do you know he didn't give up on finding Navi after MM and went straight back to Hyrule? You also say Link died in war, leaving Malon widowed and the children fatherless, but there's other ways to explain him not passing on his skills. The kid had a physical birth defect and couldn't fight. The kid was a hardcore pacifist and refused. Link himself had too much PTSD to calmly pass on sword lessons. The kid just sucked at it. Link was too forceful trying to make the kid learn so as a rebellious "I DO WHAT I WANT, DAD", the kid refused to try. Malon didn't want them learning this stuff for some reason. Etcetera. Well, anyway... it's not a bad video or anything. Some of your fanon is well explained, but a lot of it... not so much, and it's distracting to me. Well edited though and none of it is completely implausible or anything, I'm not totally sold on all the ideas though. I also kind of wish you made it more clear what's fanon and what's actual canon.

The sages didn't really "die" die. The five of them ascended to their roles, and remember: they are shown returning to Hyrule after the climax of the final battle. Rauru, an ancient sage, had been in the Sacred Realm for so long he could only return through the vessel of the wise owl, Kaepora Gaebora. But we don't see this happen with the other five Awakened Sages. Even the name, "Awakened," gives us a sense of a spiritual awakening; an ascension.

Well, at least he probably gets to marry Malon with the good hair, so it's not all bad.

I think it'd be so great to have just one more hero of time game where we see an older hero of time

To add a little more to the Great Deku Tree. The sole and only reason when he agreed to accept Link to be raised among the Kokiri is because of the destiny he sensed Link would one day fulfill. No other circumstance or reason would have been enough to grant anyone that wasn't a kokiri access to the forest. The only one other person I can think of that the Deku Tree would allow is Zelda.

This video randomly showed up in my recommended feed. I could've sworn I'd heard this voice somewhere before, then I looked at the channel name and the dots connected almost instantly. Thank you Storyteller! This was a great video.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Hero of Time becoming the protagonist of a new LoZ post Botw somehow connecting the entire timeline from beginning up to today

Nonoctoro I’m only saying so did us the players who we know played hero’s of link in other games but this hero link touch us the most traveling through time in the game itself as players never had forgotten this hero in our gaming lives growing up Don’t be showing me that line which only princess Zelda is in that game for a second showing her she gave him the ocarina also mentions a Goddess of Time as well which was new never was mentioned again until skyward sword appeared

That was an intense way to explain how the hero of time lived his life

I was talking to my friend yesterday and we had this very conversation (well, the topic, anyway) and we never got to finish it (dang bell had to ring at school). Before parting ways I played Zelda's Lullaby on the 12-hole Ocarina of Time. We're continuing the conversation later today! :D

Theres a video that went to links mental state and his troubles copeing with being alone and unremembered, and Terminus was his mind finally proccessing all his traumas. Link had no family, his friends don't remember him, only Malon who only called him "fairy boy" by the point OoT ended. Nav left him for no given reason, but figured out that, like the Gaints with the Skull Kid, there must have been a reason for it. Best part was the analysis with Malon, how Termius' version of Malon made him realize if he wanted to be with her, he has to do it now, not later

I never really thought about the OoT Link of being a tragic hero. I love this channel because it presents compelling theories and story-telling. I'm thinking I'm going to back through your videos at some point and re-watch them. I often forget about the Hylian Civil War and I cannot remember anything about that since I don't ever remember seeing it specifically talked about in games. Anyway, thank you again for a wonderful video! Keep up the great work, and always have fun! x3

Being a hero of time fanboy I like to believe he is the strongest, and he is undoubtedly the best link ever.
@wolfzend59643 ай бұрын
Honestly I think BOTW/TOTK's Link is stronger than the Hero of Time. But he does seem to be top 3-5 overall.
