Tony never badmouths Bobby to Janice as boyfriend/husband unlike he did with both Richie and Ralphie. people see Christopher being replaced by Bobby as an embarrassment for Christopher and he was a f^%$ up to be sure but it's also a signal about the failure of Tony and his regime in the family, he loved Christopher's dad and Christopher was the closest guy to him by FAR, so them falling apart is kind of the doom of Tony, that he has to replace him with Bobby and he obviously didn't like Bobby, but with Christopher he could actually hang out with him, and Tony himself directly caused this to a degree, Christopher was no boss or even Capo material but he still was decent enough as a soldier but Tony was trying to push him higher where he didn't belong

Bobby was way overweight earlier in the series but I only think he was a laughing stock because of Tony constantly deriding him. None of the other mobsters insulted him that I remember. It was mostly because of his weight and because he was assigned to Junior. He was never really given any responsibility to handle in the earlier seasons other than looking after Junior. And his father was a well liked and respected hitman. Probably how Bobby became inducted without having to participate in a hit since they knew his background and old man were solid. Three things about this great video 1 - The actor stopped wearing the fat suit because his character lost weight. 2 - You mentioned how Bobby was standing up to people - My favorite was when he was ready to fight Paulie after Paulie's negligence in Season 6-Ep 9; The Ride. This showed me how much more confident he was since Paulie's position made him untouchable and at that point, I would have liked someone to flatten Paulie. 3 - Great point that I completely missed - Tony was probably jealous of Bobby because in a lot of ways he was closer with Junior and treated nicer than Tony was. Don't know how I could have missed that symbolism.

Bobby surviving to become the new boss of the family is an interesting idea that never occurred to me. It would actually be very possible if not likely. At that point he was respected and well-established as level headed and competent. Who else would take over? Paulie? Patsy? Both of them proved to be impulsive at times and their personalities meant that they had enemies within the family in the case of a succession crisis. Bobby didn’t. He never had to bust balls or act like a tough guy to rise the ranks, he went directly from overlooked to a proven leader as underboss. Especially as Tony’s brother in law, he would have been the natural choice of new boss to avoid schism and bloodshed. In all likelihood his personality, patience, and efficiency as a mobster probably would have made him a far more competent boss than Tony was. Bobby would have been another Jackie Sr and not a Tony or Junior. Phil is intelligent and has a masterful understanding of the mob ecosystem, so knows all this and has Bobby targeted too. Like he said, decapitate and do business with whatever’s left. Bobby was a threat to New York as long as he was alive to take control of the Jersey family, and Phil was smart to not underestimate that possibility.

I like how the show humanizes characters and for a moment you start pitying them but then the go and do something evil that makes you hate them. There are no anti heroes heroes here just villains

I do love the secret language you use. Got one of my mates to watch one of your videos, he’d seen Sopranos once years ago and genuinely thought you were an illiterate idiot 😂

I’ve watched The Sopranos at least 10 times and tbh I barely noticed him the first time and didn’t fully understand the soprano and aprile crew member differences (who was with who exactly) other than the obvious stuff but every time I watch it thru Bobby rises more and more in my book. But by the end the way he looks at Hesh, and the way he scolds the guy for not having an envelope. Bobby’s full G by the end and gives his life to this thing.

One of the most endearing aspects of Bobby's character was that he really loved Uncle Jun.

Even if Bobby is a jerk in real life. A few episodes should have been dedicated to him and not Vito. I never liked Vito

Enjoyed this one. I like your longer analyses. For me, the scene where Bobby kills the innocent drummer guy in the laundrette is pretty powerful. He sold his soul when he shot the incapacitated guy in the head. We don't care about the fate of Chrissy, Tony etc. because they're such despicable human beings. But watching a nice guy like Bobby go over to the dark side is different.

Bobby got tough towards the end, don't sleep on him. After he fought Tony and kicked his ass,Bobby wasn't afraid anymore.Remember when Tony and Bobby were going to met Hiesch and Bobby told Tony to tell Hiesch to go fuck himself on paying back his debt. Bobby was winding up and gaining momentum.

I love Bobby Bacala but don't have much sympathy for his fate. He chose that life.
