This is the rough story of Derek Carr and how the Raiders ruined his once-promising career. DC suffered from organizational instability, but he is blamed for being a mid-level quarterback. Is he a top-10 quarterback, or is he a bad one?

After Gruden was fired in 2021 after just a few games, it was Carr's leadership that kept that team together. Forget stats, his leadership ability cannot be denied. It's unfortunate that he's getting blamed for lack of wins in a team sport led by coaches (McDaniels) who don't know how to develop a system with what he had.

It's obvious Carr was sabotaged by McDummiels. I remember Carr on the podium, looking pissed and trying to say what he wanted , without throwing Josh under the bus. Then the next week , sane thing happened and Carr said "I'm only doing what the coach wants me to do" so it seemed Carr was trying to be nice, but said they were losing games after having huge leads due to Josh McDaniels. I remember him getting into a little spat with McDaniels because I think Carr changed the play or threw it to who he wanted to throw it to and McDaniels got pissed off and basically told Carr to do what he says no matter what. And I think that's when Carr realized it was all a set up from the jump

@@jamesbroomfield7799 Absolutely. We found out in the aftermath that McDouchebag didn't even want him. And when we were up double digits, seven times that season, McDipshit would change the play calling and we'd end up blowing the game. So Carr began to call audibles at the line, resulting in those back to back OT wins and McDouche was incensed. That's when we all knew he'd scapegoat Carr. McDipshit is one of the worst things to ever happen to our franchise.

As a lifelong RAIDERS fan, i will always be a fan of Carr, he gave his soul and worked his ass off and was the best teammate anyone on the RAIDERS roster has had, (most of his former teammates have said it themselves) always had the worst defense his entire career compared to other starting QBs in same time span (giving up over 26 points per game) and despite all that he broke all types of RAIDERS passing records and had the most Game Winning drives during that same time span despite the terrible defenses he’s had but some RAIDERS “fans” that hate him act like he F-_-ED them, stopped calling them and refuses to pay them child support, i will never understand why when all he wanted was to play for the RAIDERS and finish his career playing for them and he did everything in his power to win every single game #DC4 Once A Raider, Always A Raider 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

His career is not "tragic" by any stretch. He has had a good, productive career. He was nowhere near the problem with his team. He brought steady play to the QB position for a team that was a shambles. Not much running game and despicable defense. His coach was fired 4 games into the season. His team's defense never ranked above 20th in the league and he took that team to the playoffs. While so much of the franchise was in shambles, he was a steady rock that took the slings and arrows that the rest of the team deserved. That's leadership.

What if HE DIDNT GET INJURED vs the Indianapolis Colts and went on to a final four finish in 2016-17? I remember a play where he was trying to get a 1st down, in the past before the back injury, he would have done everything possible to get the 1st down so i was waiting for him to do something amazing. He slid and gave himself up a yard from the 1st down, that's when I said he's done, he's a different player and he's playing with fear now!!

Christmas Eve 2016 is the pivot point in his career. He was such a a special playmaker until that first serious injury. Broken ankle, then he rushed back, then a broken back in 2017 that he doggedly tried to play through, and he was never really the same ever since. The stats progressed, especially in 2020 & 2021, but the big plays regressed. All that said, this Raiders fan still roots for Carr. He is a good person and a much better leader than Saints fans believe.

He was better in '19 and '20 then he was in '16. Hell over the 1st half of '21, he was on pace for 7k yards and 35 TD's. Unfortunately he's had nothing but instability and system changes ever since midseason of 2021, so he hasn't had the opportunity to get comfortable in a system before having to learn a new one. If Saints bring in an OC who runs a similar system to the one he was just in, or Gruden, he'll have a MONSTER 2024 season. Hopefully he finally catches a break, bc he has all the ability to play at an elite level.

Owner Mark Davis loved DC until Tom Brady and Josh McDaniels convinced him he didn’t need or want him. I still think Brady was feeling some kind of way when Gruden stuck with DC and passed on signing Brady and when Brady had Davis’ ear it was important for DC to be shown the door. Why else would a team cut a player for nothing when seasons prior had been offered multiple draft picks for?

Saints kicked the can to far down the road with drew Brees contract for years. He was still getting paid two years after retirement. Its one of the worst cap issues the NFL doesn't talk about. Its not just about the talent, but the ability to keep talent during those years of cap voiding. The saints are the way they are because there GM could not manage their cap properly.

No other QB would have survived what DC went through, either. Carr gave the Raiders everything he had. The Raiders didn't give that respect back to Carr. Injuries happen in football. The quarterback gets too much blame when a team loses, especially when he is putting up the kind of numbers DC always did. You can analyze DC's career statistically, but no statistics can tell the true story. There are going to be haters in all NFL fans' bases, which is an unfortunate fact. The Carr haters had their minds made up due to the win loss record or any number of other unrealistic excuses they used. I firmly believe that a greater number of Raider fans did not want to see DC go than the haters that did. I think Mark Davis himself is the biggest reason the Raiders have had limited success. The same as much of Raider Nation, I hated the Josh McDaniels hire before he coached one minute for the Raiders. McDaniels personally destroyed a highly potential Raider team that was close and finally started to blend together and play Raider football. Once again, Davis didn't recognize what he had and brought in Patriot cut throat football and let McDaniels dump on the most loyal and talented quarterback the Raiders have had since the Snake. Plunkett was nowhere near as talented as Derek Carr, and he took the Raiders to the superbowl and won. DC was never given a team defensively to compete. If we are going to judge DC statistically, we need to use all of the statistics. You did a great job of pointing out the factors that DC had no control over. Carr haters were the same small percentage of the fan base that cheered when McDaniels was hired. They may be too embarrassed to admit it, but they had big mouths with a lot to say when they shit on DC. This coming season would have been the first in DC's career that he would have had a team that matched his talent and common goal to play and win at Raider football. The loyal fans in Raider Nation understand how much DC loved the Raiders, and DC knows how much appreciation we had for him. He deserved a lot better than he got from the Raiders, and I hated the way he was treated by this organization. DC4 & RN4L. P.S. the Carr haters and blamers calling him check down Charlie and other unwarranted names, ignore the fact that DC was stripped of his right to audible and play the game out on the field in real time. DC could read a defense and make the right decisions more times than not when he was allowed to control the offensive side of the game. I have high hopes that Mark Davis will finally understand that this team has to be allowed to play Raider football the Raider way. Many factors are uncontrollable, and many players can take the blame, but at the end of the day, football is a team sport. The kicker who missed the game winning field goal was never thrown under the bus by Carr or any other self-respecting team member. If they had put more points on the board, the kicker wouldn't have been put in that situation. Facts over statistics.

I’ve watched Derek since the Fresno State years because I’m an Alum and I have followed him ever since. It may seem like he struggles in new systems but the fact of the matter is actually building chemistry with his receivers. The secret reason is that he is A HUGE ANTICIPATION PASSER! Think about this… if Carr throws the ball before the receiver even breaks his route then the receiver must be in his anticipated spot for the ball to be caught. If they are not on the same page, then Derek looks horrible on the play. This was very evident in the first 3/4 of the season! Even Kamara had mentioned it in a presser when he missed his assignment. Derek’s football IQ is probably top notch amongst all QB’s so in my opinion I know he doesn’t struggle learning “New Systems” rather it’s being on the same page with his receivers which takes time to develop. Should we get Hunter Renfrow and Devante Adams it’s a Super Bowl appearance people!

I believe Carr has all the talent to be elite but mentally he is not that great. Other QBs play the game knowing the risks of injuries and turnovers but play the game to win. Josh Allen for example may have more turnovers but that’s because he’s willing to move the ball to get a touchdown instead of a field goal or to get a first down instead of settling for a punt. I wouldn’t call a guy who has earned a quarter of a billion dollars a tragedy.

The post 2016 version of Derek was a coach killer. He was scared and skittish and became checked down Charlie. The opposing teams knew this and used it to their advantage. That’s why he had so many coaches in his career. Going to New Orleans with the exact same results shows that it wasn’t his environment.

If you ask all the Raiders players, it’s cuz Carr’s leadership kept them together, they had chemistry and yes that year he still had a sub par year himself but despite all that they still did it, then McDumbF…K came in and we all know how much of a piece of 💩 he is and how he destroyed that locker room chemistry… but my point still remains, rarely has a QB/team with a bottom 5 defense has made the playoffs much less won a superbowl no matter how great the QB is, all QBs with a superbowl ring have at least had an “average” defense to help them out

Carr was never the problem. "But he wasn't the solution" comment is complete BS. The dude would have flourished if Davis was smart enough to retain Bisaccia as the HC. As for the a Saints? They had the same record as the Bucs. Had Winston been able to score ONE FRIGGING POINT upon Carr's injury exit in the Green Bay game, they'd have made the playoffs. I digress. Look at the stats-eerily similar to those of Mayfield & Stafford, who both made the playoffs. Gruden joining the Saints will serve the Saints well.

I said the same thing for years the biggest factor in having what is considered a successful team can't be measured in statistics there's an overall team chemistry that is the most important thing where does team chemistry start with the coach quarterback relationship then that takes time to filter down through the team takes time to filter down through the team good team chemistry is not a overnight fix it's a process if you go and push reset halfway through the process you're starting over at Square One your new coach or quarterbacks is going to have to do the same thing 13 needs to do is choose who they're going to build and let that team chemistry go from there Here's what I think's going to happen if you keep the same system in place the Saints will take a step forward and make the playoffs next season but don't expect a deep playoff run until the season after that if you don't blow up team chemistry and go into a rebuild
