Seeing Gord and The Hip live was quite an experience. So much energy, so much talent. RIP Gord.

I saw the Hip in 2008 in Calgary (one concert out of 130 over 28 years...but I don't count as a Hip Superfan LOL) and Gord sang the first line of this song then stood back, crossed his arms and let the crowd sing it to *them*. 23000 of my best friends in unison, every word and hiccup in time as though we had grown up singing that song...which, of course, we had. A Hip concert was possibly the most democratic environment I'd ever been a part of-bangers and posers hipsters and rockers, bikers and soccer moms all rocking out to the same jam with no one out of place because Hip fans are family.

This is "The Hip" at their best. Rocking the crowd and the song. This is why they were a Canadian institution. RiP Gord.

It puts a huge smile on my face seeing the smile on your face during this song. This is one of my favourite Hip songs of all time, it gets you amped up like no other song of theirs. And this live performance really puts Gordie's stage presence on display and why he's dearly missed by many Canadians. Merry Christmas to you and your family. And happy new year :) PS I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd love to see another Hip reaction. Maybe 50 Mission Cap, Poets, or maybe Nautical Disaster

Gord was a brilliant lyricist and performed every song like a man possessed.

This is the epitome of what we came to expect from Gord during a show. That man was a consumate performer.

Lol - David, for the first time, when the song kicked in, your smile and head bob made me think “yup, he’s a Hip fan now.” Not that you’ll like everything or changed your mind on anything you heard before. Just that you locked in right away, to the energy and pulse. And Gord made you laugh. So glad you kept checking them out. Hope they keep making you smile.

Ahhh! Early 90's some of the best live, meat and potato, rocknroll shows around. Gord always went off on a tangent. Not complicated just a good time! RIP GORD

I recommend listening to Nautical Disaster by the tragically hip

The thing is he always improvised by having these random "chats" in the middle of songs...check out new Orleans is sinking, killer whale tank". Gordbeas always animated and while his voice would wander off key, it didn't matter lol

They often did 2-2:30 shows during that tour they did 3 hour sets

It's also some lyrics lining up like remember the day then that next line similar then a third line that is a bit longer which lines up with the hips burns of passion twice then a longer third line "something something you gotta sometimes" sorry don't remember the lyrics to either but I remember similar vocal melodies between them with a double jab then straight punch structure. Edit sorry different song from pink Floyd but I also did think it did take some cues from that song.

One of the tightest bands I've seen live and I've seen a ton of bands including ACDC, Kiss,Metallica, GNR, Faith No More,.the list goes on.

Kiss is impressive cause they brought it together live what session musicians did in the studio. It's a professional and customer friendly practice then they replicate it.

That's the thing that made The Hip as legendary as they were: Beyond just Gord Downie, all 5 members of the band together were as rock solid as Mount Everest. Never a note or a beat out of place. Even in their most chaotic moments, when Gord was off on one of his tangents, every beat and every note was exactly where they wanted it to be.

if you can put the hip in the same category as floyd it makes me proud as a canadian. The 2 best canadian bands are the hip and rush. Rock on Kingston. 8.7 is good thank you for that. You need to listen to more like New Orleans is sinking.

Perhaps, if you might want to use a descriptive other than “simple” you should consider reviewing some Frank Zappa material. As a pure bassist a Jaco Pastorius I do not believe you are. But that is only my personal opinion, so give it no weight.
