I am 52 and Somehow, some way, I had never heard of this band until about a week ago when the new doc popped up in my Prime feed. I am disappointed in myself that I didn't know about the band or their story. Fast forward just one week, and I finished the doc.....in tears. I have been listening to them every day on my hour commute to and from work and I just keep thinking how life throws so many twists at you....their story is both uplifting and depressing...but that's life, and for me it's why their music was like a spark the second I heard it. It's music for good times and bad times and everything in between. And you can't say that about a lot of music and bands. So happy that I The Hip finally came to roost in my brain....I am now a fan for life

Omg brother, im in the exact same boat. I never heard or listened to the hip. When i seen snl "im tragically hip" i was hooked. I cant stop watch everything on hip now. Just watched his documentary the path on indigenous ppl.

Growing up in Kingston I went to school with Johnny Fay, his parents were good friends with my Aunt and Uncle. He was pals with my older cousins, he was 6 or 7 years older than me. He was such a nice guy , when I was 12 he saw me one day on the street when he was out driving around with his friend Jim and he picked me up and took me out to Dairy Queen. He has always been a hero of mine and because of him The Tragically Hip is and will always be my favorite band.

The f...king Hip....as my old roomate used to scream when hearts and boots would play on the Radio...My 4 University yrs were intertwined with their music..89-93 Uvic..I saw them 5 times..In Caberet's and Arena's...Big thanks for the this music!

I had internalised Gord's death and ignored it. Now this documentary has ripped off the band-aid. It's been rough, but also awesome, and I've started listening to all their music again, which has been glorious. Thanks for the documentary, we all miss him, but at least we have their music.

Prime released it at 8pm. I started watching. The first of the four episodes is absolutely brilliant. Likely the finest rock documentary of all time and I still have three full episodes to go! The honesty and history and the sheer openness made this amazing to watch

I couldn't listen for the past few years.. it was still too raw as a lifelong Hip obsessed Canadian.. but I found myself watching the doc last week, I didn't stop until it was over. It was like watching a recap of my life and all Canadian's lives really. I'm still thinking about it a week later, the songs are in my head when I go to sleep and wake up every day. I think it was the best documentary ever made. Thank-you for making it! 💜🍁🧡

I love the Hip and his documentary was probably the best I've ever seen. Not only in depth but brutally honest and open. It shows the human side of our favorite band. I do want to add one small clarification, just because I'm from there. The Hip opened for The Stones in Moncton New Brunswick in the summer of 2005. Attendance is claimed to be at least 80,000 but possibly more. Not trying to take away from the Markham gig as that is no small feat! And still worth mentioning as they headlined that show so it is different in that regard.

I don't drive the TO hwy or I would have gone to see it. Have to wait (which is torture). I dropped my kids off to see them at the base in NOTL and picking them up, hearing the last few songs, couldn't stand it to bought tickets to see them. My son loved GD and his writing (he plays, for fun). We were all so devastated and of course saw the last one (twice) .. and in Kingston on the screen. Almost bought tickets that day but it was behind stage. A truly great Canadian band ❤

Maybe this is incorrect, but I remember hearing Gord say he accidentally said "I'm Tragically Hip" at the start of the SNL performance because he was really focused on holding up two fingers for his nephew's 11th birthday. Maybe that was something Gord said on Much Music's Egos & Icons or his earlier interview on Q, I'm not sure. But I do remember the story!

Just to correct the guys in the band the biggest concert you played was in Moncton NB in 2005 with the Rolling Stones. 80,000 people attended that concert. Here is the line up,Rolling Stones, Tragically Hip, Maroon 5, Les Trois Accord, Our Lady Peace. Best concert this city ever saw. What a day it was for our little city to host 5 of the very best in the rock and roll world that day ! I know my friends and I were ecstatic to see the Hip with sea of humanity that flowed up behind us on Magnetic hill that day !

Time for them to get a proper new lead singer. They wanna play. The fans want them to play. The time is right for them to find that person. Enough time has passed in mourning and respect for the loss of Gord. He cant be replaced, but his legacy can be referred to in performance and video clips when they play live concerts. Lots of legacy bands approach losses in this way, Some of the public may cry no initially, but they would go see this new version of the band. The fans can respect an evolution. Stone Temple Pilots, Queen, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Journey, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Genesis....the list goes on, all tell this story. And all went on with forgiving fan bases. Later in 2025 it will be about 10 years from Gord's death. You'll see it then I imagine. These guys are too young to retire. Fans will get behind the right singer. Has to be the right singer though. They could pay hommage to Gord throughout shows, use some of his unused lyrics to complete new songs, etc. Lots of possibilities.
