Gord sang "Scared" during their final show in Kingston. After he sang the last line ... "I gotta go ... it's been a pleasure doing business with you" the crowd EXPLODED! Not a dry eye in the goddamned house. Just writing this makes me shed another tear.

That moment is one of about twenty from that night that ripped me in half. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it. I’m thankful I grew up in Washington an hour south of the U.S./CA border as I was exposed to The Hip’s music through Canadian rock radio. What a gem he was.

Mannnn, i wish i could of seen Tragically Hip in concert. My biggest regret in my life is not going to live concerts!! Been to a couple of concerts in my 20's thats it!! I saw them when I was around 18 or 19 in the 80's, when they only had their EP out. Also saw Rush, Van Halen, Peter Gabriel, Blue Rodeo around the same time. I likely saw them in the 90's too (as Rush, the Hip, and Blue Rodeo became the only bands I'd spend money to see live). There's just one problem. I'm so old that I can't remember any of it. If I hadn't have saved the ticket stubs, I'd even doubt that I had!

On the positive side, that also means I don't have much recollection of having seen Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, and Lady Gaga with my wife (at her insistence) in more recent years either. 🤭🤪🫠

Go see Pearl Jam if they come to your town. You will not regret it! They are one of the last true rock bands that you are able to still see live nowadays. I saw The Hip's last tour and it was the best concert I have ever been to, but that was a special situation and the crowd was so amazing. Out of the 3 pearl jam concerts I've been to they are some of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

Regarding the conversational tone … sometimes he says it is about a travelling salesman going door-to-door selling fear, like a vacuum cleaner salesman or an encyclopedia salesman. Keep that in mind while listening to the lyrics

Technically, it's a pretty basic song. Some songs you need to become familiar with, others might gain your attention from a strong rhythm section. And then there are songs like this, they just instantly fill a gap that you didn't know was missing, they just feel perfectly "right" the first time you here them. "Lake Fever" is another Hip song that does this. Bruce Cockburn has the ability to do this to, simple sounding melodies or refrains that just land effortlessly and perfectly.

Why dont you react to some legendary OASIS tracks, also ALL SAINTS tracks. Two of my go to bands growing up. Also some 80's tracks from legendary ska bands BAD MANNERS (especially lip up fatty, and special brew) and MADNESS (especially house of fun and our house) and explore some boogie woogie tracks from SHAKIN STEVENS !
