im guessing that hybrids use poe oil due to hermetic motors. i work on large chillers and an ounce or 2 of the wrong oil in a 134a chiller can cause the oil to wax up in the evap.

Steven, Hybrids with electric compressors use POE oil rather than PAG to prevent insulation damage and HV leakage. Any HV fault will cause the system to shutdown until repaired. In the case of using the wrong oil, that means changing EVERYTHING in the A/C system.

If you hook your test equipment to an older car, and it says "hey, this is not R12", and you find it has some nonstandard freon in it, what is your method for removing the nonstandard freon from the car?

It is best to keep an old RRR machine around to collect any "junk" refrigerant you may come across, and when the jug is full, you can send it out for recycling or reclamation. No old machine around? Check with local collision shops and junk yards. Do NOT vent to the atmosphere unless you don't mind paying hefty fines.
