This video will describe the tram system of Gdańsk (Danzig) in Poland. It is a city that is home to Poland's largest seaport. The tram system of the city is not as large, but a lot of extensions are planned. Gdańsk used to be part of several empires and was its own city-state for a while. The tram system has seen 3 rulers in its 150 years of existence. Tram models that can be seen in the city are the Duewag N8C, Bombardier NGT6, Alstom NGd99, PESA Swing, PESA Jazz, and Konstal 114Na.
This video is the 31st episode of the series Urban Transport, with full-on descriptions of various urban public transport networks (mostly in Europe).

I highly appreciate that you managed to pronounce all the Polish names of the final stops of all lines, which you did really well! Great work on the topic!

The tram system in Gdańsk is really far from excellent. The frequencies on some lines are quite poor off-peak and the infrastructure itself leaves a lot to be desired. The trams themselves are too short for the present passenger flows and the newest ones have almost no sitting places, which makes long-distance travels (Gdańsk is widespread, with no particular city centre) quite an unpleasant experience in daily commute. In addition, we also have the 4th slowest trams in Poland due to the lack of signal priority (which should be provided by the ITS (Tristar) which has been running here since 2015 but does nothing for the public transit despite the local government's declarations before its introduction). The city is, however, definitely worth visiting and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it, especially since you can also visit Sopot and Gdynia at the same time (they are two nearby cities which are connected with Gdańsk by urban rail running every 10 minutes all day long - each is completely different).

@@bartoszpazinski5249 It's not all rosy in Wrocław, you have a lot of places where the tracks look like they're about to collapse, as for ITS, maybe it's better because in our case the system works in such a way that the tram turns through the intersection and the cars get the green light straight ahead :D Being in Gdańsk, I like the fact that I know where a given line goes (through which streets) In the center or nearby, the stop is close (not to mention that you have a map and diagram at each stop).

Jelitkowo is a extremely yummily sounding name if you know Polish.

This is a good video on Gdansk. Wish you made a video on the poor state of Vilnius public transport and the obvious need of fast tram system.

Something is cooking on that, although I want to get it right and not rush it. Expect something later this year/early 2025.

@@realdronthego This is good to know. No rush, of course. It's just that it's so incredibly frustrating to see where Vilnius (and Kaunas for that matter) got with its total neglect of public transport, especially compared to Poland which has been modernizing and investing EU and state money into public transport in a steady and consistent fashion. This allowed them to get to a level somewhat comparable to historically wealthier Western European countries. We, on the other hand, just closed our eyes and decided to ignore the idea of any public transport altogether, as if it didn't exist and was not even worth mentioning. Modal share numbers are demonstrating this too. We somehow need to bring this topic up and bring it into public domain for people, including politicians, to discuss. I'm just distraught seeing what's happening with public transport in my city :(

Kaunas appears to be in a better state than Vilnius. Estonia and Latvia are miles ahead as well. But yeah, I need to complete my research properly on this.

@@realdronthego Kaunas does have a generally newer fleet of buses and especially trolleybuses, but service frequency is usually quite abysmal in most locations except some very central spots and only a couple of major routes. Car modal share in Kaunas seems to be even higher than Vilnius and believe it or not I was once... kidnapped by a trolleybus driver in Kaunas who refused to let me out because... I was taking photos of a trolleybus. Some very weird people are employed there as drivers for sure :D So while in some respects Kaunas may look better, it still sucks ass big time.
