You were close - it's a Pontiac Trans-Am, a variant of the Firebird that had the famous noselike hood scoop (which typical Firebirds and Chevy Camaros at the time didn't have) The "shorts" are supposed to be a representation of Michael Knight's jeans (with the black shins apparently being his occasional cowboy boots, the black torso being his leather jacket, and the visor over the eyes being his shades).

I always liked that slick black car from the show I never saw because I only knew about the show thanks to the opening and the fact that I think David hasselhoff was the main protagonist in the show and was drving KITT but the fact that even this show has a cross over toy and it looks this cool, I got to say I am very impressed. This transformation looks very simple but not overly complicated, his posing is very strong and I don't think it needs to be said how very sick the car mode is. It was pretty funny in the beginning when you were trying to transform it to actively want the thing to show you why you should take it slow for the arms only for it to actually be good until it decided to finally pop off lol but either way, another fun revew!

The car is KITT and the robot mode's design is supposed to evoke Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff's character), that's why he has blue on the legs (blue jeans) and the watch is how Michael talked to KITT when he was out of the car

If you hold the bottom after you push on the lights activate without the sound and stay on a minute then off . There's another configuration with the wings to look like the Michael knight black jacket with the inside of the doors cover the wheels and then storage the weapons in the jacket inwards. Really fun toy NOZTALGICCC to the core but really good. The only one that I can't find is Ectotron the one with the TMNT is fun too I wish the BTTF crossover was bigger. My guess the colours are to mimic what Michael Knight(hence Agent Knight) wore in the show. He reminds me of Targetmaster Stakeout though, to the point I could see some retooling and repainting/recolour to make a deluxe/or voyager of him down the line.

Finally got a couple of cross overs this year. Ecto Tron, and Party Wallop, and out of the two I like Ecto the best despite how dated the engineering is. Agent Knight looks like a lot of fun, and looks like a great addition to the Alternators shelf though he shares very little of the engineering or design philosophy of that line. Transformation here is about as G1 generic as you can get but Agent Knight more than makes up for it in size, lights/sounds and weaponry. Just really wish I could budget him in before years end.

Reminds me a lot of Earthrise Prowl with Sideswipe legs. Two very good looking toys that just did not hit for me. I don't think I'd like this, but I sure hope everyone who likes it gets everything they want from it. Edit to add: Blue shorts because 80s denim jeans shorts, man. Be glad there's not some hairy thigh skin approximation. The 80s (and early 90s) were definitely a time when were were experimenting with some wild ideas to see what stuck.

If they ever get around to making KARR (KITT's older evil brother), I hope they give him a new face. KITT's head looks nice, but it feels weird to have him with a mouth. Would be cool to see a head sculpt where it's almost like Shockwave's head, but with the scanner strip instead of a single dot. Would fit KARR pretty well.

I found if you hold the button down for 10 or 15 seconds. The red ligh turns on. No sound, but it stays on. I think till you push the button again. I think that's cool and adds a bit of show accurate play to KITT.

This mold looks like a perfect candidate for a little retooling & (irrationally optimistically) maybe revitalize Alternators/Binaltech/Alternity style? You mentioned Prowl, I was thinking Bluestreak (my 1st Transformer bitd) The whole "front end of the car is the chest/head pops out the hood" thing, for me, is iconic. Don't fix what ain't broke, indeed! The car shouldn't completely disappear; car parts should become robot parts, visibly. How else are you supposed to know that robot was a car? 😅

I like the "genericness" of this Transformer. It's all I want. Competent bot and alt mode and an easy transformation makes me happy. Plus, the head (and fists) look cool and I appreciate the licensed product but I'm not old enough to have seen the original TV series.

The figure looks great! I just wish it didn't have balljoint arm connections... especially since they pop off so easily... also, all that translucent plastic - especially that pieace that just hangs off the back... not a deal breaker; I'm still going to hunt down this childhood-memory-fullfilling macguffin, but I know that care will need to be taken to preserve the playability of this figure.
