I highly doubt that Optimus is aware of Unicron's presence on earth. Unicron from all continuity has always been pure evil with destruction as one and only goal but he's not always a world eater. Unicron is like a divine of transformers universe, Born along with Primus which was wayy before the thirteen primes and cybertronian civilization, he can't be controlled, let alone bargaining with him.

I just thought of something you said...what if Quintessa lied to Optimus that Earth is actually Primus and not Unicron? Therefore doing her bidding and killing all that is good in the process. If he keeps saying that Earth is his home and they must protect it, well.. either they've been protecting the wrong time-line of Earth and need to jump through some black holes and find the right Earth; that or Unicron has secretly been feeding off of the energon from the Transformers and Earth's resources waiting to destroy our universe. Quintessons(or quintessa in this case) will do everything to protect their own creation as a whole. Even if that means destroying some of their own creations as well. I'm not sure if Primus is a part of bayverse but it is likely that Cybertron(or most of it's hexagon shell anyway) is a work of quintessons. I see why Quintessa would destroy Primus but I also doubt that she would ever want Unicron to live either, she wants to have cybertronians to do her bidding so there would be no reason to let Unicron roam free and destroy everything in his path. I'll say those horns also confirms Unicron's identity since it has always been his thing in every continuity. When Optimus say "protect the earth" I'm sure this is the part where Michael Bay haven't thought of(or couldn't think of), Optimus is now aware of Unicron being a part of earth but he hasn't say anything about how to stop the potential threat that Unicron will cause in the future other than "protect our home" for the moment.

I love em all. These movies made me a fan of the franchise. I, and others find things enjoyable about these movies like older fans find things enjoyable about the original cartoon. I especially like when they do kind of step away from the lore a little bit and tie it with human history. That's something I can go by, and really do enjoy, and could have actually seen happening in the real world if they existed. What I DON'T like is how people keep wanting these to be more like G1, gotta be like G1. I don't like that. Everyone is fine with how different the Marvel movies are to the original comics, and changes they make. But Transformers? Oh no, people can't stand that. These were never meant to be strictly following the source material. These were meant to tell a new story for new fans who were just now getting into it for the first time, while keeping the characters older fans know. If you don't like it, that's fine. At least respect what they TRIED to do, is what I'm saying. If they ARE gonna reboot the franchise as some want, I at least want them to make a conclusion to THIS story first so everyone can be happy.

DATE CORRECTIONS: - Dark of the Moon takes place in 2013, 4 years (of college) after 2009 - Age of Extinction takes place in 2018, 5 years after the Battle of Chicago - The Last Knight takes place at some point after that.

Transformers takes place in 2007. Revenge of the Fallen comes 2 years after. Dark of the Moon follows 3 years later. Age of Extinction is 5 years after. The Last Knight follows finally, 1 year later. There is an 11 year period of Transformers in these movies. I was trying to figure out ages and went through a lot of material to figure out the times between since it was never outright announced.
