It’s possible that the system that would eventually become Managed Democracy was born out of desperation where people’s rights and freedoms had to be restricted for the immense effort and cooperation required to keep the Human race alive , following the Nuclear Fallout. But when humanity finally overcame the crisis, those in charge rewrote history to make it seem like the system was put in place because it was the ‘best’, in order to keep their tight grip upon society.

it really does honestly sound like a system that could have had good intentions. I could 100% see how someone could come to the conclusion with the thought process of like "So many people keep voting against their own interests if we just asked them what they cared about instead of who to vote for then we'd get an actual representation of what they want!" but of course it's also laughably easy to abuse such a system and well now here we are

Since the Geneva Convention banned the use of mustard gas, the Swedes were the only ones, that had chemical weapons, which they used to bombard their enemies with. They bombarded them to submission and now everyone lives in fear of their super weapon. The weapon is called Surströmming and it worked as a launchable mine, that resembled a can. The can opened, when it sensed someone being near it. The swedes got a nice delicious lunch and everyone else died because of the smell.

the arctic turned into wasteland probably because Earth's superpowers collectively decided to fight on the edges of the arctic to avoid civilian casualities and environmental impact, that's just my theory though As for why Sweden rules the Earth, I would guess Sweden was the only country that remained neutral and siezed other countries after they ruined themselves with the war, Sweden has a decent economy so the struggling countries had to rely on Sweden's aid, becoming over reliant in the process.

Well, Super Earth and managed democracy most likely only happened after humanity already went into space. In the first game there's a story about how Hellpod was invented. Basically, there was another interstellar human state that Super Earth was at war with and it was so powerful that the Super Earth Navy couldn't establish air superiority and couldn't land helldivers with shuttles. So some engineers managed to jury-rig the supply pod to carry a single helldiver. After that 50 helldivers dropped into the other humans' parliament and the rest is history.

Sweden was also very neutral throughout history, never truly being majorly involved in wars. So perhaps they chose that location (obv its because AH is located in Sweden) in lore terms because of how neutral Sweden is, and is relatively a peaceful country. So maybe the world chose Sweden for their HQ because of how neutral and peaceful they've been in human conflicts. To truly unify the world.

The wasteland zones being in the arctic and Eastern Europe could be from nuclear missiles that were destroyed in flight. A lot of people dont know this, but nukes fly across the world over the North Pole since the distance is shorter from the major nuclear powers in the east and west.

Okay as a Swede I have some facts for you. Dynamite was made by a Swede Alfred Nobel, who later saw what dynamite was used for in war and then used his money to make the Nobel prize. Minecraft, candy crush, payday, just cause, helldivers are all Swedish games. Volvo and saab are Swedish. And the seatbelt we use today was made in Sweden and Volvo could have pardon it so only Volvo could have hade it, but they wanted all cars to be as safe as possible. Pewdiepie Swedish.

The parts of the Arctic would have been areas that were hit the hardest, SMS universe both nations would have had better missile defense systems in many would have been knocked down in these areas before reaching their targets.

I'm going to assume you mean that the colonial guard force are like a national guard. Military police police the military. National guards are homeland defense forces.
