Rena Ryūgū Well we are allies in NATO. Whatever we all may think of Nato and believe me I am not a fan, it is a major reason why Greece and Turkey avoided a full scale war. What the west doesn’t understand about Turkey is that it is a MUSLIM country but also WESTERN country mixed in one and it is literally and figuratively a bridge between the Arab world and Europe. Turkey is always going to have benefits and conflicts with its neighbors because they’re torn between the middle.

Rena Ryūgū And I am Greek American Rena FYI. I’m also a history teacher. Even if a country is an “enemy”, rival , opponent, quasi ally, one should study then to understand what their interests are . Is it purely economic, ethnic, religious, cultural, strategic, militaristic, one needs to study all sides. That’s what I try to do. Turkey is the greatest example of western and middle eastern Islamic culture diffused into one. And no I do NOT dislike or look at Turkey as an enemy but I believe with Greece they are rivals in some interests and allies in other interests. Culturally we are very similar.

Treaty of Lausanne Article 16. All islands and islets (plus Imvros and Tenedos) withing 3 nautical miles of the Asian coasts, belong to Turkey (about 400), all other islands outside 3 NM belong to Greece (about 9,000)

After WWI western allies had the power to decide what happened in Turkey. They even controlled Constantinople. Along with Greece they should have pushed the Turks/Muslims EAST from where they came from. Should have backed Greece all the way populated Western Turkey (including Constonople ) a purely Chrisian country. A part of Greece. Greeks were native to west Anatolia, especially in the coasts of ionia( thats why in east they are called like this,yunan) like smyrna prousa Halicarnassus. Hittites lived mainly far in west asia , Im not sure about this but i think they disappeared after the bronze age collapse and Greeks and other ethic groups moved there after centuries, or they were assimilated. But for sure Greeks were also natives to anatolia.
