The Trent and Mersey Canal Collapsed! Ep. 152.

We visit the site of the Dutton Breach and revisit the day the Trent and Mersey Canal collapsed after heavy rain and flooding. We moor narrowboat Silver Fox right by the site of the collapse and Colin finds out how they managed to reopen the canal.
After another, more recent landslip, closed the canal we arrive just in time as it reopens, enabling us to cruise from Preston Brook to Barnton, taking in the beautiful Cheshire countryside, through Preston Brook, Saltersford, and Barnton Tunnels, before mooring close to the Anderton Boat Lift.

Hi guys, the big shaft is the site of the collapse of the tunnel in the 80's, a guy saw it cracking reversed out dropped his family then raced back through before it collapsed, one of my first canal site jobs was moving the clay from the repair from Railtrack land to the old clay pit over the tunnel. Relined Barnton Tunnel back in the day, night shift spent at the bottom of the shafts cos you could pick up radio Luxembourg, eke them were the days

I remember that canal collapse.......hello lovely fellas, by the way - you’re both looking lovely, and Otis full of bounce.....🐶❤️ ..... it’s really good to see the repairs that have been done. Jam butty mines 😁 we have Talskiddy Treacle mine here in Cornwalll......honest! 😁 it seems very much against the spirit of Narrowboating that a water point should be padlocked off like that......unless of course the water from it is contaminated in some way. Wet wipe showers all round then. ...brings back memories of camping in the middle of nowhere! Oh my life, I’m still getting my head around aqueducts and you chuck in a boat lift........whaaat?? Seen your new post today an just had to comment I found you last week when I looked up Bingsley five rise locks on youtube for my 5 year old son. Oh my god I have been obsessed with watching you I’ve started from number 1 and I’ve just seen the silver fox launched! I’m not ashamed to admit I shed a tear for her and you I was so proud and from one scouser to another scouser silver fox I was so made up you took her too her birth city first!
