Honestly, I’m probably never gonna drink ever again, tried it and don’t like it. But, I love this channel because it has a mix of legit knowledge, fair critiques, and shitposting and comedy, that I love so much. It doesn’t feel snooty, it doesn’t feel gatekeepy, it’s just a chill channel full of folks who love alcohol knowledge and shitposts. It’s a really chill channel, and I love that a lot. :)

In fact, Corryvreckan or Uigeadail will get you probably 80% of the way of any special Ardbeg release that doesn't have an age statement (depending on the special release's type o' cask you have to chose one or the other). And I'm not just making this up, I have already tried a few to compare myself. Ardbeg can be hella expensive, but as long as they keep that rule of thumb with their core range and keep these at a payable price, I'm gonna stay a fan.

so true, NAS versions like Uigedail and corry has turned to shite. it used to be excellent but year on year they just get nastier and younger and rushed. the 10yo is guaranteed age, and bang for fuck, crazy good. Even their ardbeg day releases are taking the piss man. Just mistakes or reused barrels probably to save cash. sad, But that is what you get when LVMH owns a whisky company, they apply loui vuitton marketing to whisky - but you cant. well, in saying that, they sell out so i guess you can but i know more and more whisky buffs that turn away from the new ardbegs

I had a early release Uigeadail and recent and they are so different, the quality is drastically diffeernt but when you teaspoon whisky slowly degrading it, you don't notice, we did. Corry is not bad, for sure, i would drink it, i would order at a bar if i had no choice, as i would laga16 but it is not as good or near how it was few years back. the ardbeg day releases are even worse. they are ridiculous l otteries of 9 out of 10 bad The wee beastie is a pisstake. it is basically LVMH telling you that you are stupid and that they will condition you for a crappy whisky and watch this space probably eventually phase out the 10yr It is all accounting.

I like my ardbeg with one small ice cube in it. Also the way I got some friends into smoky stuff is I told them to first put it on the freezer and on the rocks. Then do it room temp with ice. Then slowly reduce the ice until you either get to neat or find something you love

I'm kind of a whiskey-cola sucker. I have tried both (Ardbeg Ten and Laphroaig 10) on the rocks and with regular cola. Ardbeg feels more smoky but loses most of its nuances - cola just washes it away. Its far better neat. Laphroaig 10 on the other hand is my favourite whiskey-cola coctail ever - so weirdly shugary and smoky - just brings smile to my face : P

Ardbeg is my favorite distillery in the world. The cult is deserved. They don't make my favorite whisky of all time (that's made next door at Lagavulin), but their offerings populate too many of the top 10 spots to not consider them my favorite distillery. I know I can never go wrong with an Ardbeg, any Ardbeg, and I enjoy comparing them often, and learning as much as I can about that unique Ardbeg character I love so much.

Been making this with Monkey Shoulder (2 oz) Drambuie (1 oz) 4 dashes of bitters, makes a nice cocktail. Have also done it with the Wee Beastie. Both make a nice, smoky cocktail. Using an older single malt seems a bit wasteful, but I shall try it.

Great video as always! Not a fan of peated whiskey but love the video. I personally dislike all of the ardbeg products but the 10 is the best. An Oa was burnt plastic and rubber tire. Weebeastie taste was like the smell of sewage. On ardbeg 10, I get creosote / bandaids / plastic and brine… with champagne and butter notes trying to fight thru but losing to the creosote over and again. the ardbeg peat doesn’t taste like smoke to me… it’s bandaid-like creosote. To each his own. If you like the medicinal bandaid flavor, the underlying other flavors are very good and I can see how the ardbeg ten it has a following. Cheers!

Fantastic video. I honestly wish I enjoyed Ardbeg. I bought it one night on a whim, just because the bottle & logo looked interesting, and reviews of it were fantastic. I had very high hopes for it, but the smell of it just reminded me of the same smell you'd get in a high school science lab, and it just carried over into the taste, and I couldn't get myself past it. Worth noting, it was also my first Islay Scotch, and I'm not used to the peatyness of Scotch. I'll have to revisit it in the future, should I acquire a taste for it/train my palate to handle the taste.

Fun stuff. Since smoke is the main theme here I will admit that I can’t deal with it. I have a bottle of Laphroaig 10. After many sipping ounces I have determined that it tastes like someone went into an old burned out building, found the most heavily charred piece of timber, liquified it added a bottle of liquid smoke and some Memphis style BBQ sauce and bottled it up. That’s my take on smoke! Still working on the bottle!

It varies by whisky, I think. I have a bottle of Laphroaig 10, and a Laphroaig Select, and I have real difficulty drinking them. However, I have a bottle of Lagavulin 9 I've half-killed, and a bottle of Lagavulin 16 (though it pained me to pay that much for a single bottle) and I'm actually enjoying it as I type this. It's still smokey, but somehow the smoke is different and more enjoyable to me. tl;dr, don't give up on smoke till you try a couple other whiskies!

I get like campfire but in the morning, like all that charred wood that didn't burn. Flowery, synthetic gummy flavors, briney, honey sweet. In the mouth it is sort of... aggressive at first but delicate in a weird way? Salty savory and sour, bacon, cinnamon/ginger?, flowery with a strange anaesthetic dentist thing (clove?), and very pronounced iodine aftertaste. The evolution is fun, very moreish! I'll say as a whiskey beginner this is definitely the most interesting and my favorite whiskey to drink neat so far. I've tried the other typical 'good whiskies' that are more classic in style but always found them boring or cloyingly sweet, while this one was very exciting, weird, fun, interesting, kicky... Almost like a "cocktail in a bottle" sort of thing.

Costco currently (March 2022) has a gift pack/two pack of Glenmorangie Lasanta and Ardbeg An Oa for about $80. To compare, Total Wine has the same two pack for $110. As separate purchases, Total Wine has Glenmorangie Lasanta for about $38 and the Ardbeg An Oa for about $74. If you like both (they are very different but both are enjoyable, IMO) then at Costco you're saving $30 for the two pack and $42 over buying them separately.
