The third video in our Small Arms Schooling series. These are educational shorts - presented by our Education Officer Dave (a qualified history teacher) - on different subjects directly related to the UK curriculum. These will be shared across teacher networks and groups as well as through our usual social media routes. They are short in length to be suitable for what teachers need in the classroom. This directly aligns with our work on Education as part of our charitable object.
The video gives an overview of the 'perfect storm' that led to significant leaps forward with firearms development, simply known as the Triumverate of Death.
Superbly produced by Adam Blackmore-Heal of Blackmore-Heal Media: bhealmedia.co.uk/
Both Adam and Dave are Patrons supporting the Association financially as well as their creative contributions.

Another great little short. One day I'll get myself across to visit your museum and see this stuff for real.

When you see how complex the muzzle attachment of the Vickers is and how many problems the gas cylinder of the BREN caused, it becomes clear that the cordite was much dirtier than the nitro powder of other nations. Greetings from Germany

If that were true, why would British forces have kept cordite for as long as they did?

Tell us you know nothing about smokeless powder or machinegun gas systems, retarded recoil systems .........

@@derekp2674 I suspect that cordite is more durable in the tropics than nitro powder. And I think the battleships used it too. Easier to manufacture? Cheaper?

The British started using nitro from 1916 onwards. We still occasionally fire surplus ammunition using cordite and it works well, even if quite smoky (it set the smoke alarm off last time we did some testing with it!).
