The Southern Confederacy was/is like this prior to, and after the American Civil War. Ireland, pre-1920s was like this. Parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland are also currently like this.

because it is not Scotisch bagpipes who sound very loud and not particulary "subtil". This is Spanish bagpipes. Like the veuze or basque bagpipes, very nice on the sound. It make the "play" better.

or the Irish uilleann pipes and Northumbrian smallpipes sound very pleasing as well. It's probably the highland bagpipes that sound the most piercing and abrasive. I think the northumbrian smallpipes sound the most relaxed and gentle

@@sunkintree il like the uileann. But it is a incredible bagpipes. In Spain, pays basque, Vendée there is a lot of small and big bagpipes very nice too. I 'am fedup to heard higland bagpipes in the bagadou (i am in Brittany, Brest)

To be fair, Scottish Bagpipes were IIRC, originally conceived as signalling instruments. Thus they need to be loud enough so that your troops can hear them over the sounds of the melee.

They didn’t have bagpipes on this area back then. The Romans had some though, but more likely as instruments for entertainment rather than as military instruments like the British and Scottish.

...And by far most of the spectators never realized what magnificent piece of art they had just beheld, but many felt joy, and the rest just thought "aw bugger it, now I'm late for the bus to Slough", and never really understood what they had witnessed... It was a primarily sad occasion for most as they had no idea what was going on although they clapped anyway because that's what you're supposed to do, but for a select few, it was badass above and beyond what they'd expected, and the experience stayed with them, till their end of days...

This video randomly appeared in my recommended list now, probably because I’m a fan of both iron maiden and folk music, and when I started watching I immediately thought: “this is one hundred percent a Spanish medieval fair… Oh, wait, yes, that’s my hometown 😂” I believe I actually watched this in the moment, it was amazing 💜 (the place is Avila, for anyone feeling curious, very pretty medieval city)
