I worked in nearby Fort Washington, PA; not that far from where this movie was filmed at. Sometimes I took the public transit bus to and from nearby Norristown, and it went right by that place. Every time I saw it, I always thought to myself "That's where they filmed "The Trouble With Angels."

Is the building still standing ??? What name of the city ?! Thanks.
@Lisa-di1wi3 жыл бұрын
@@johnhistorian7291 It's still standing. It used to be the St. Mary's Villa For Children and Families. It was a home for troubled children. It's located in Ambler, PA; a suburb just outside of Philadelphia. However, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, which ran the building, sold it just a few years ago. They built senior citizen housing on that property, and the building is now used for offices.

@@Lisa-di1wi Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I have this movie and DVD and seen it many times and still love it. I went to private Catholic schools.

@@johnhistorian7291 : No problem. Ambler, Fort Washington, and Norristown are located in Montgomery County, PA. I was born and raised in Delaware County, PA. The only time that I ever went to Catholic school was for religious instructions classes to prepare myself to receive Holy Communion and Confirmation. But otherwise, I went to a regular public school up until fourth grade. Then I went on to two different special education schools.

A good memory comes to mind. I went through 8 years of catholic school in the 70's.. We had all gathered in the gym that was set up like a mivie theater and watched this movie. Me and my school mates. Lots of pop corn and licorice ropes and laughter... It was a great day..💚

Love the "on location" photos - looks like they had a lot of fun making this movie. I have great memories of it. My mother said it always reminded her of me and my sister when we went to parochial school as I got into some trouble there. Now that she has passed away the movie makes me think of her and how she liked it.

Loved this picture when it was first exhibited in South America in 1967... as I was to be registered at a nun's school I was really amazed at how my life will possibly be later on. Nuns are unforgettable and ours were so strict yet cared so much about us. Oh those were the days ......

Jaime Vermeulen Wow, I sure wish I was there, too! Thanks so much for putting this video and audio collage together and I really enjoyed it! Of all the movies that I have seen in my lifetime of 62 years, this is THE MOVIE that is closest to my heart! Hayley, June and Rosalind were just remarkable and the rest of the cast were excellent, too. Ida Lupino excelled in many ways directing this movie and Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack made the movie even more magical! I got a written card from June in 2007 and she told me that she loved every minute of making this movie and next year will be the 50th anniversary of when it came out! Sadly, I never got a chance to see it at the theater but my sisters did. And June was 26 when she made this movie but sure played a teenager very well. I also thought that Vicky Albright (who played the fainting "Charlotte") was a cutie pie! This was Hayley's LAST great film in my opinion and so sad that June Harding did not go on to more success since she was such a fine actress but retired from acting in 1970. Finally, the sequel was a HUGE disappointment for me since I was hoping that it was going to capture some of the magic of the original movie but it did not. And June told me that she NEVER saw the sequel which shocked me!!! Anyhow, I am glad that they made it and while it had some merit, it greatly paled in comparison to the magical and memorable "The Trouble With Angels".

+Doug Celeste I saw the world premier of this movie at the Fox Theater in Saint Louis Missouri, the principal of my Catholic Grade school in Ferguson Missouri was a friend of Rosaland Russel was getting the benefits from the premier for a new all girls academy she was opening in Florissant Missouri the next year after the movie was released.

JOHN: Thanks for sharing these VERY interesting notes and WOW, you saw the World Premiere of this movie??? How lucky you were! I never saw this movie at the theaters and will always regret that. Was Rosalind there, too??? I will soon be 64 and this movie is the closest movie to my heart out of ANY movie that I have ever seen in my lifetime!!! I went to a Catholic grammar school for eight years in San Jose, CA. and those were some of the BEST years of my life! Maybe that is one of many reasons why I LOVE this movie so much, even though it takes place at an all-girls Catholic high school. Hayley, June and Rosalind sparkled in this movie but the rest of the cast were great, too! I even got a handwritten card from June in 2007 that I will always treasure. I did see the sequel but it was a HUGE disappointment compared to the original. No magic at all but I am still glad they made it, anyway. But June told met that she NEVER saw the sequel, believe it or not!! WOW!

Nice post - I lived not far from the "Castle" growing up and saw the movie when it first came out when I was about 12. It's been an important movie ever since - and not just for having lived near where the exteriors were shot. It's just a special movie where there is more there than one might think . It has unexpected depth and is very moving. I also appreciate the shots of Ida Lupino directing. I don't think I've ever seen any - and I think she was crucial in the movie turning out as special as it did. The sequal, also shot near where I lived, isn't nearly as good in any way (writing, performances, direction, music), but does bring a nostalgia for the period.

@DougCeleste9 жыл бұрын
+J. Peters And it was also really missing June Harding!! Columbia Pictures had Barbara Hunter and Susan St. James (with that AWFUL pixie haircut!!!) as the new duo and they could not even come close to Hayley and June's performances! And while I am glad that Columbia made the sequel since the movie did have some merit, it overall really failed to capture even some of the magic of the original movie! And June wrote to me in 2007 and told me that she never saw the sequel!

In regard to the first post, what would that have added? I am asking a serious question. I have watched this movie maybe once a year, for going on 30 years now, and the thought never crossed my mind (ditto why no Asian, East Indian, American Indian, etc.). And before anyone makes off the wall comments, I am a card carrying member of the NAACP and Southern Poverty Law Center. Kids are kids, and in this case, they just all happened to be white.

@@strothermartin5368 don't be a dimwit ... Blacks make up only 4% of American Catholics today and were even fewer in the '60s. This is an accurate demographic portrayal of a Catholic boarding school in the '60s, sorry to burst your bubble
