@@TheScience121 Exactly. If I was in China, I'd prefer the US government to have my data, since they could do very little to me. Since I'm American, I'd prefer the Chinese government to have my data, since they can do very little to me. The only thing China can do to me is get into a nuclear war with my government, but my data doesn't help them with that. And the back and forth banning each other's technology companies makes potential war more likely.

the american government is extremely limited in what data it can get companies like facebook. all american companies report what data the us government asks for and it has the right to refuse, Apple for example refuses all the time. In china if you refuse they will take it by force or destroy/ban your company. Thats why you dont see Google and Facebook in China.

Maybe I fail to see the value behind TikTok, but people need to understand that any social media platform will use their data for profit. Just how nefarious are TikTok's plans? Who knows. I don't use TikTok and I won't miss it when its gone. There is always another app around the corner.

It might not be TikTok or ByteDance that has nefarious plans, but rather the CCP who could access, and probably already do, and control the data and use it for whatever reasons they have. It's a safety risk. CCP "owns" anything and anyone in China. ByteDance is Chinese and would have to comply. It doesn't exactly reassure me that the American CEO came from Disney either... We all know Disney is already in China's pocket. They pander to China in their movies because they care about the potential 1 billion audience...
