Sometimes the jobless are not looking for a job. They are "choosing" their job. When they don't have one, they blame the others for stealing the job they are not willing to do. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED.

Americans had full employment before mass immigration. The US labor force participation is the lowest it has been since 2000. Americans are not looking for jobs because foreign staffing firms now control all hiring in US companies and are deliberately keeping Americans out of jobs. How come armies of foreign H-1B job robbers didn't create enough jobs for everyone as promised?

They should fact check this lady, Jessica Vaughan, about her statements. First of all not all Americans are willing to do any job that requires real physical hustle, and secondly there is no such thing cheap labor when anyone is on visa. To receive any work visa, the applicant wage needs to meet the requirements set by each county for a job profile. Most of the tech jobs pays well above $100K so wonder where is she getting her information.

MInimum wage always causes a market distortion - firms just raise prices elsewhere. If you increase the pool of labour, the stock of money doesn't increase and so instituting a minimum wage is useless because firms will raise prices elsewhere to accommodate for the costs, or worsen conditions because they know someone else will have to tolerate it because of the excess competition.

I am working in US on a non-immigrant visa and work in IT (I have electrical engineering degree). I have met a lot of people who work in IT and their situations and have to come to learn a lot about the visa frauds as well. So she is right about the visa frauds. Second, IT is a broad, good paying field and one can easily learn things online and get a good paying job. I have some American (white people) friends with associate and bachelor degrees and struggling to find any work. At the same time, they are too stubborn to switch career, learn new skills, and add value to their resume. They are so stubborn and constantly complain about their situation and the same time won't take any advice nor action to change their situation. So I don't agree with the lady that there is no job that American won't do.

Honestly I doubt it my dad came from Asia in the 80s and began mopping floors in target. Then moved across the country and opened 4 businesses giving 38 people permanent jobs for a few years, and dozens of others temporary work. Then he married my mom, and made 2 more businesses giving the U.S a few dozen more jobs. All while barely understanding more than a few sentences in English. Now he has 2 kids that are both in or going to college for engineering and medical degrees and will further support this economy. Data from the US Department of Commerce shows that over the over 436 occupational categories in the US only 6 are comprised of majority immigrants. These jobs make only about 1% of the national workforce. Even then, the lowest non-immigrant percentage for those 6 jobs is about 43%. Meaning that yes, Americans WILL DO these jobs and it is wrong to assume Americans won't take an opportunity to feed their families.

She has absolutely no idea what she's talking about, absolutely zilch! According to her the immigrant workers take low paying jobs in the lower rung of the corporate ladder. That definitely explains why 2/5 big tech CEOs are immigrants, and why there are so many immigrant executives in tech companies/wall street. As far as Americans willing to take any job and work on any field, sure Karen, why don't you teach the baristas and coal miners how to code? I’m studying for my PhD in the US and can chime in on the “America’s loss will be China’s gain” front. Historically, a huge proportion of the graduates from China’s top universities come to the US for PhD’s. Then over half of them stay for work or become professors (who have been educating highly skilled Americans). I personally know one such PhD on a Apple core team that invented industry-disrupting products that has raked in billions. Changes began in the past decade and sped up when Trump took office. A lot more such PhDs are returning to China because of the worsening situation in America and because China has been rapidly increasing support and benefits for high talents. It saddens me to see the American academia disrupted by politicians, but I’m also very proud to see my home country retaining these brilliant minds. They will bring about great things in the coming years, and Trump will keep accusing them of espionage.

I respect the anti-immigration argument, although I see these folks missing a big point. There are 2 categories of work guest workers do- 1. the jobs for which it's hard to find American workers APPLYING for them 2. the jobs for which it's hard to find American workers QUALIFIED for them The anti-immigration argument always talks about #1 to justify that in times of slow growth like now, Americans would be willing to work in those jobs too. i totally agree with it. But a blanket ban affects #2 which is completely overlooked. You cannot find American employees to replace jobs that are utilized by the H1B professionals. If these visa programs have been historically abused, the solution is to fix the visa policies, not vilify these H1b professionals and falsely claim that their jobs also can be done by Americans.

Also, the employers need to explain to the government why they rather pay thousands of dollars to apply for the visa for these foreigners rather than hiring Americans. My experience is that if those employers can find Americans who are 60% qualified for the jobs, they would not hire foreigners because that save them a lot of work and $. SN CY The labour market is already super competitive. But a developing country can’t compete with a rich one in a fight for talent other than say maybe offering a compelling vision for the future. It would be like a small tech company in a tier 2 town competing with Apple or Google for talent. Of course there are other reasons than money and opportunity for people to opt for the small company and thousands do choose to stay back in India in spite of an opportunity to emigrate. But a large proportion of people will take the safe option and nothing against them for it - it is the pragmatic thing to do. The America's economy will survive without immigrants, but it will not thrive anymore. Getting the US work visa and moving countries is really hard, so I believe that most immigrants are extremely determined and hard working individuals. They differ from others in their unique experience, ability to adapt to new situations, willingness to learn another language and, because leaving your home country requires a lot of courage, fearlessness! Immigrants are an essential part of an American economy and Americans can learn a lot from working with them. Not allowing immigrants to come to the US will be a huge loss. BTW, what about all the American factories that are located abroad? How about making these big companies move factories back to the US? This change could create way more work opportunities for Americans than any changes in work visa policies.

Read the book “A Nation of Immigrants” by John F. Kennedy. Still relevant after all these years. Our country cannot sustain itself long without a robust and logical lawful system of immigration, especially for workers. The Jessica Vaughn woman is the policy director for Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a group that publicly advocates for much lower levels of immigration to the US. Some call them an immigration “restrictionist” group. Her views are biased and one-sided and intended to push for lower immigration levels. She cites no study or report as support for her views n this video. Did you see that on July 30, 2020, the GDP shrank by 32.9% in the 2Q? One reason is that worker immigrants are not doing or taking jobs because they can’t get in here. As the video said, they pay billions in taxes and generate demand for goods and services, thus create demand for American jobs themselves. Shutting down lawful worker immigration to “save” jobs for Americans is like shooting yourself in the foot to prove you’re a good gun marksman. You get a medal for supposedly hitting the bullseye but it hurts a bit and gets bloody messy.

in an ever growing world, where more and more cities and housing becomes crowded and less living space is available (think the hong kong tiny rooms), why are people so freaked out over population decline? People shouldn't be paranoid. the rest of the world just cannot handle to have 1billion citizens like China - we can't have all countries be made of 1bill people. Not enough resources like food and fresh water. so you need workers in the healthcare industry to take care of the aging population - big deal. I guess those who can afford it will get services and those who can't will have to rely on their kids. eventually there will be no boomers (large amount of seniors) to take care of (like psw's) and Japan will be newborn again - like the earth and plants after the rain. All these job positions will open up for the young that were once taken up by the old. And majority of the demographic will be young and middle-aged in the workforce and not the old in retirement homes.

America stopped investing in education of its citizens, from early childhood to higher education. The education level of the US population has fallen behind in the world. High paying jobs like tech, finance, medical, etc REQUIRE education and skill. In a capitalist society, when supply of qualified labor falls, demand is met by substituting the source of the supply. The term qualified in this case incorporates education level, experience, work history, etc. One thing Americans don’t seem to understand is that employers look at everything about candidates for a job. If you quit your last job, have a gap in your resume, etc, all this affects your chance of hire. Immigrants have a unique perspective in that just quitting and walking out on a job is not an option for them. That’s something most Americans are okay with doing. I mean, how many time have you heard Americans say that they want to explore life, figure out what they want to do in life or even get upset at work and just quit. That’s a very American thing to do. Immigrants, not so much.

I would rather protect and cherish the roots of American culture like white european heritage, specifically Christianity. If you were to go around and ask millions of voters what matters to them, I dont think any of them would list what you have above. People want to perpetuate their own society, way of life, and culture. Bringing in a million+ immigrants every year is making it increasingly difficult to perpetuate the unique American way of life. These people come here and yeah maybe they do increase the gdp a bit, but what good is that if they are undercutting wages thereby making 2 income households almost essential to financially survive (which compounds declining birth rates of native born Americans), they are changing the fabric of the American society, and they have no connection whatsoever to our history, our culture, and our people. They speak their foreign language, wave their foreign flag, and maintain their foreign beliefs. That spells disaster for the American people who want to perpetuate what they have created. Mass immigration is irreversibly changing what we have created, and as a people, we have the right to self determination and should speak up if we dont want that.

Tracy Cove I am a native American lol. And blacks have probably the most to gain economically of any demographic group in America from decreased immigration. Blacks in America largely work blue collar jobs that face severe wage growth suppression due to the massive influx of laborers from immigration. Cutting that off would require employers to raise wages to fill positions, which would greatly benefit blacks. On the cultural front, I would say its very ignorant to think neither blacks nor native born Americans want to perpetuate their culture and people. Improving and securing a better future for your group is the most innate instinct of human beings. So what exactly is your rebuttal?

Once that establishment was constructed.. the current form of immigration is mainly 3rd world, poor living. SO what would make a country think people who LACK things, would be candidates to BUILD something. Would you hire a carpenter with no tools? Would you allow a man to cut you open with no medical degree/certification? Yet we go brain dead when it comes to common sense thinking. Immigration today is ONLY benefiting the IMMIGRANT, they are not returning any vital roles. working jobs americans don't want to do is not A GOOD THING. It means the job probably shouldn't exist.
