I'm a Swiss citizen also an American. I live in México and I can atesst that this happens all over the world and not only with cocoa plantations. Exess consumption of anyting, clothing, gold, sandalwood, perfumes...and so on... we are all responsible for the abuse of marginalized people and destruction of the environment. Being aware of all this issues makes us buy in a more responsible maner. Thank you for your very enlightening investigation.

I'm swiss and chocolate is part of our culture. I've known what's going on in Africa with cocoa beans and I've dramatically decreased my chocolate consumption. If EU and USA keep taking advantages of Africa and Latin America, people cannot complain of migration because those people have no choice than leaving their honeland to escape from such a harsh life. So if you consume, don't complain about migrants
@pacomeclark34225 ай бұрын
Well said, wow it's my first time to see this coming from an European, as Africans we coming in Europe or USA as immigrants because they always using, we work for them and we get nothing in returns, example look at the oil field it comes from Africa go to overseas to make right comes back in Africa but we need to give them money again to bring it back in Africa so that we can use it, the problem is why they can make it right in Africa n they pay from us, that's why immigration in overseas will never stop no matter what, the day the white will stop usin Africa, Africains also will stop coming in overseas as immigrants

No one is taking advantage of migrants, but their corrupt government. Also, the migrants are not farming cocoa to benefit consumers overseas, they are farming it to earn. Chocolate is not must in many people's diets, and many are allergic to it. Migrants leave their country for various reasons, no matter how much money they are making. They pay up to $20, 000 to smugglers to get them to Europe and the USA, and that is the low end of the payment. My friend here in the USA has 2 jobs, and no more than $120.00 in the bank. One African after going back home, told a reporter that he was glad to have left Africa, because he was able to marry a second wife, and build another house. Many leave, because of greed.

I have to say that I am ashamed of most of the comments here. No wonder there isn't the will to fix these appalling problems. Seems as though the human race is so selfish that just maybe we deserve the mess the planet is in. Serious fixes - 1. Make manufacturers declare where they sourced the coco - total transparency around where it comes from e.g. Ghana barcode model. 2. Don't buy from anyone who won't. 3. All agree to pay a little more, and insist that this goes back to farmers and their communities. 4. Oversight of the system with real penalties for all involved.

Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 and first half of this year with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?
@AlanRogers-c8d5 ай бұрын
Just ''buy the dip'' man.... In the long term it will payoff. High interest rates usually mean lower stock prices, however investors should be cautious of the bull run, its best you connect with a well-qualified adviser to meet your growth goals and avoid blunder.

The production of cacao should be managed better, big companies should pay more and child labour and trafficking should be completely illegal. If so much chocolate comes from Ivory Coast and so much chocolate is consumed globally, then the people of this country should be wealthy, their children should be in school and their forests should be full of life.
