Ok so most people say that Classic Sonic is from the past, and most people say that Classic Sonic is from another dimension. Well to me, Classic Sonic is obviously from the past since it was mentioned by Amy Rose in TailsTube that Classic Sonic grew up to be Modern Sonic. But back in Sonic Forces, Tails claimed that Classic Sonic is from another dimension, and The Phantom Ruby is affectin’ other dimensions. But this doesn’t make sense, Classic Sonic is from the past, so how did The Phantom Ruby affect the past than just other dimensions? 🧐

I have a fairly simple explanation, as a self-proclaimed time travel expert: All of the events of the canon Sonic games happen up until Generations. In Generations, Classic Sonic is brought forward in time by Eggman and the Time Eater. Meeting Modern Sonic DOES change Classic Sonic's future, but it can't change Modern Sonic's past, so it instead creates a separate timeline at the point that Classic Sonic returns to his own time. So the Classic Timeline is all the events Classic Sonic experiences, being the classic games AND Mania. Modern Sonic USED to be Classic Sonic, but the new Classic Sonic will not grow up to be Modern Sonic due to the timeline splitting creating an alternate dimension. And then Classic Sonic returning in Forces is because BOTH Eggmen discover the Phantom Ruby around the same time, and there's some sort of reality warping shenanigans there.

So I think this is what happens: Classic Sonic (from gens) has met tails, but hasn't met knuckles yet (meaning sonic 1, CD, and 2 has occurred). He then travels to the future, and the events of sonic generations occur. Somehow, both Eggmans break free and return to their timelines. Sonic 3 and knuckles takes place, and classic sonic is shocked by classic knuckles villainous actions (because he saw that knuckles is his friend from his visit to the future). Mania then takes place sometime after the death egg is destroyed, and Eggman goes into depression, building the hot-boiled heavies. Classic sonic then travels to the future, and sonic forces occurs. After classic sonic returns, sonic mania plus occurs, and sonic meets mighty and ray. Eventually team sonic and mighty/ray go their separate ways, and sonic adventure takes place, a long time after mania. It seems the radiation of the master emerald affects the members of the cast, ageing them up, which is how we get their modern appearances (don't really worry about that though).

I was watching something about Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces and the person said that the end of Sonic Mania, Classic Sonic does a pose at the end. After a few months SEGA release Sonic Forces release trailer and then sometime in the trailer, Classic Sonic comes back and does the same pose as he did in Mania. So my theory is that Sonic Forces takes place after Sonic Manial. But I really don't get the whole thing about Classic Sonic goes back to Sonic Mania Plus and stuff and it's really confusing, because Classic Sonic is just doing the same thing only to free Ray and Mighty and stuff

thats a little theory that i think it will settle this which is: i think that classic sonic that we see in sonic generations is the same sonic from sonic forces and because the classic sonic from sonic generations he still cant do the drop dash from sonic mania but when he goes back to his time line and modern sonic goes to sonic lost world they meet again and in sonic forces classic sonic can do the drob dash (i think😅😅) and after the end of sonic forces classic sonic travels back again to his timeline and faces a little adventure with his classic friends how do you know you may ask because we can see that little adventure in sonic mania adventures and sonic mania plus and sonic mania, and then the story goes on in the upcoming games of sonic,so yeah that was my theory and i hope you will read it all (ahhhh finally I'm finished)

I always wondered why Sonic Team/Takashi Izuka and Ken Pontac/Warren Graff decided to change "Classic" Sonic's background from being Sonic when he was younger to Sonic from nothee dimension/universe, but that's the reason right there: they just didn't have a good way of explaining how Dr. Eggman would not already have known everything about the Phantom Ruby before the events of the Sonic Forces canon prequel comic book. Because besides that there truly is no good reason as to why something like Sonic Mania or Sonic Superstars could not have taken place between Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Pocket Adventure and Sonic 4 Episode 1.

I think everything Sonic can be cannon including Classic, Modern, Movie, and Boom Sonic. Some aspects are different interpretations of the same event like Sonic meeting Tails in the movie, meeting him in Sonic Mania, and meeting him in Sonic 2 the game. Classic Sonic is a younger version of Modern Sonic and he time traveled to Sonic Generations but perhaps instead of returning home he got transported directly to Sonic Forces.

I agree with that twitter post about the alternate timelines. It just makes the most sense. When classic sonic was initially pulled in generations it was just younger sonic, but after returning the timeline split. We don't even know that mania's classic sonic is the same classic sonic we saw in generations. I suppose in all universes (where sonic is alive) classic sonic will always grow up to be a modern sonic (albeit one with his own version of events, i.e. adventure might happen differently or not happen at all). I suppose this is what they were getting at by that conversation tails and amy had in that tails tube episode. The sonic devs seem to be known for doing a lot of hand waving and not acknowledging the implications of their own lore, or whether or not official statements make sense or contradict previous official statements.

This is definitely an interesting discussion that's going to take a while to answer. However, I think that because of the Time Eater, there are now a bunch of different timelines out there, with the main ones being Classic and Modern. But, one thing I'd like to know is where Dreamcast Sonic is in all this timeline stuff. Is Dreamcast Sonic in another timeline, or does he not exist anymore? They were planning to have him in this game, but he was cut for a reason that I'm unaware of. I honestly think it would create even more confusion if he did make it in, so it's probably for the best. 😅

sonic mania adventures takes place immediately after forces cause after mania, sonic is transported into the modern timeline to help modern defeat infinite. then, sonic goes back to his timeline, and sonic mania adventures happens. we can see this cause at the end of forces, sonic waves to the modern cast then goes back to his timeline, and then in sonic mania adventures we can see sonic attempting to wave to them modern cast.

i have my own theory tho, if you play sonic mania you must be familiar with the purple gem in the first cutscene of the game, that gem was called the Phantom Ruby witch also appear in sonic Forces as Infinites power, now if you look at the ending of sonic mania good ending you will see after the true final boss with Eggman, a portal spawned in there witch is in the ending sonic and the ruby got sucked into the portal witch the portal lead classic sonic in mania to the future in the events of sonic forces and then if you look in the sonic mania good ending, Sonic did the same pose when he appears in the sonic forces trailer. thats my theory. i hope sonichub read my comment

Good video. I just personally applied the Avengers Endgame time travel rules to the franchise though. I’m just assuming classic Sonic gets split into his own timeline after Generations. Although, I will say Sonic 06 and the existence of Silver throw a wrench into things with their time travel rules… Time travel’s just weird. My take away from the Tails Tube thing is that, is Classic Sonic, Sonic from the past? Or from a different dimension? And the answer is Yes. Yes to both. They emphasized that Classic Sonic in generations is indeed a past Sonic, though if one thinks they omitted the forces line of him being from a different dimension. They actually double downed on the different dimensions by explaining a hypothetical multiverses of Sonics. What this means? it's possible it's a branching timeline. Where Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic had a shared history, but Classic Sonic deviated from the path by going into the future, then going back and had his Mania adventures and Forces. It however doesn't cause Modern Sonic's past classic experiences as we knew them to change, nor does it create a paradox, but instead a branched timeline, a different dimension. (Think DBZ And Future Trunks and Present Trunks and how time travel works there as an example.) The only counter point would be 06 and CD's time travel where going back in time does have an impact on the future. Though I could argue the events in Generations take place in a realm outside of time or time is broken in some way so linear understanding of time or time loops are thrown out the window anyway, which could allow the instance of a split timeline to exisit in a way it other wise would not normally be. Thus allowing the Forces statement to exist without not contradicting Generations. (Meaning Forces Eggman can have no knowlege of the Phantom Ruby as it's events aren't in his past, while Classic Eggman of a branched Timeline made use of it.)

Here is my version of what happens that connects everything into one. A month after Sonic & tails have first met the events of Sonic generations take place. After Sonic generations Sonic 2 happens. After that Sonic 3 and knuckles and Sonic mania plus encore mode happen. Then after the true best ending in Sonic mania plus encore mode Classic Sonic gets sent to the events of Sonic forces. After Sonic forces Sonic mania adventures happens. After Sonic mania adventures Sonic becomes older and then the events of Sonic Adventure take place.

It's not hard classics started a new time-line cuz modern sonic we've been playing since 91 is going through the generation storyline in 2011, while classic sonic is pulled straight from 1990-something into this storyline & goes back with the knowledge of the future... which would at some point no matter how much he avoids or plans will change his future into one where he somehow ends up finding the phantom ruby. This is my vague idea: Clasic Sonic games hapend. Adventure and Advance games story arcs hapend. 06 resets the timeline. A timeline where Solaris never existed follows where Sonic reached the same outcome but with diferent events (hence why neather Sonic or Tails don't remember Green Hill or any Sonic Adventure, Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog events are mentioned again), Rivals, Rush, Unleashed, and Colors hapend. The time eater shifts time restoring the timeline to a unified line of events (that's why Crisis City is broght back despite Solaris never existed) The characters regain memories of the events errased by Solaris (Sonic says that Green Hill is one of his favourite places in Forces) The past versions of Sonic and Tails are sent back to their timeline were events no longer can hapend the way they did originaly which redefines this past timeline as a new dimension. Both dimensions coexist but the energy generated by the time fracture cristalizes into the phantom ruby (it's the only origin I can come up with for the phantom ruby). The phantom ruby is sent by accident to the modern dimension along Classic Sonic where eggman finds it and makes prototipes of it, at the end of the game eggman uses the original phantom ruby which doesn't need energy feedback like the artificial ones. After it's destroyed Classic Sonic goes back to the classic dimension where the Ruby regenerates from the portal. The ruby disapears. Now the classic dimension is completaly indpendent from the modern timeline and Sonic Supersars follows. (This is convoluted AF but it's the best I can come up with)

I think there are multiple answers to this question. One is that the time line healed around the classic sonic in. If you watch milo Murphy's law you know what im talking about. So what I mean is, Sonic and classic sonic beat time eater, and classic sonic went back to the past, to the first game. Now you are gonna need to really need to suppend your disbelief but if classic sonic when back to the past his memory would be wiped because time eater did not exist for him to meet modern sonic or the characters he does not meet in the classic games like shadow, sliver, and blaze. So with this answer all the 2d sonic games should be cannon Now for the answer that fits forces. so when classic sonic when back in time he kept his memories and that caused a split in the timeline where the classic sonic from generations is the one in mania, they find the Phantom ruby, forces takes place so the sonic we see in that game is from the altered timeline. And if you want you can use multiverse theory and say the events in generations made a new universe so the tails tube multivers theory works. Hell sonic prime is cannon to the games so multiple universes exist. And with this answer, every game before mania should be in the original classic sonic timeline before mania, but if it's after mania then it's up in the air. (Btw I thought forces was fun. Just letting you know not everyone hates it.) Should I add more to this or explain it more

(My head canon) Sonic mania begins right after sonic generations. i know this because Sonic mania starts in green hill and in the final cutscene sonic and tails jump into a time portal showing green hill 1:14 but instead of taking a time portal to the present green hill they go a little into the future this can be backed up by crisis city in sonic generations. After all crisis city is in the future so it’s not that far fetched and after taking the time portal boom sonic mania starts. The only reason c.s. Is in sonic Forces is because the fantom ruby which took him into the future and into sonic forces.however sonic forces doesn’t take place right after generations as we last saw robotnik and egg man in the white space so the fantom ruby took c.s. A few years into the future but all this for c.s. Happens in a matter of hours
